Paul Vunak's KZbin video on this drill is probably the most comprehensive I've seen so far. It's from the early 1990s but is still OUTSTANDING.

The my first karate instructor had also done wing Chun and so we did chi sao a lot, probably not "correctly" but we did it. I left that school and am not doing BJJ. I use chi sao all the time there now. It was fun but I didn't really understand it until I got into grappling and it all made sense then. Enjoyed the video.

So you have moved over to the Dark side and started grappling. I think it is super important, especially to be well rounded.

It’s one drill, for connection and sensitivity training. Also showing you how to block and stick with your forearm/elbow. Good stuff!

Taken out of context many things don't make sense, yet once we see the bigger picture, those individual pieces are essential. Thanks for watching and for commenting.

I worked in mental health for 20 years and been attack by individuals. Does Wing Chun work yes , but not the way you think it does. Wing Chun helps you have a natural way of blocking and redirecting attack in natural way. You don’t have time to think about what your going to do but only react. The technique that I used where Pak Sao to deflect punch and then control the wrist. I used Bong Sao for over head attacks. I used Huen Sao when they were trying to grab my arms or wrist. Wing Chun is not going to win any ufc fights but it will teach you how to protect your gates, deflect and control.

Yeah that is what I think we were trying to convey at the end. That we don't necessarily fight these ways, yet it develops attributes that are used in fighting. Great comment, thanks

Great video! I love that Mike can make fun of stuff but still try it out with an open mind and absorb what is useful from it! Also, great question JD, the traditional wing Chun low blocks feel weird and the boxing style elbow drop seems much stronger so it was great to see y'all work through this drill with both blocks

Simple answer for dropping your hand to your waist so you can your grab a weapon, then strike. This soft hands stuff makes more sense with knifes.

I often grapple with eyes closed to feel and respond to energy and try get a submission. Difficult in begining, but now easier, and it improved my game because i dont always see the possibilities, but actualy now feel it. Bjj is a system that relies on same sensitivity for submissions. Every system has SOMETHING to offer, use what works and reject what does not, but first explore with open mind, biasses has caused me to loose out a lot.

Very true, I used to roll with a blindfold, but closed eyes does same thing. And yes, take what works for you from all areas.
