@RecklessRegal4 жыл бұрын
A couple things here that need to be addressed: - That firewall is going to flex hard when you press the brake pedal, it needs some dimension or to be tied into the bars around it in some way. - The pieces that you butt welded to the frame rail should have a sleeve inside of them that should be plug welded. There is little to no structural strength in a butt weld. - Instead of using an entirely separate piece where you need to put a bend in your rectangle tubing, use a pie or lobster cut, it will not only be substantially stronger but it will keep your tube alignment on point

Why use alloy in the floor you are mixing metals which isn’t good for corrosion and you are definitely not doing a light build with all the heave walled tube, box section and plate. Just use thinner sheet steel, it’s easier to work with and if you put in dimples and ridges etc you can add lots of strength in sheet metal just like OEM do.

Hello Vtuned, Everyone keeps calling it a dangerous build, I don't have alot of chassis fab knowledge, but maybe you should really change the way you build the car. Probably you should start planning the chassis in CAD or pay someone to take measurements and do it, then you just cut pieces and connect it once for good, so you don't have to work alongside rough measurements. All the problems you've encountered that youre triying to solve come from poor planning. Please do it right and shock everyone, because even if it could be save, incase it isn't you might not be able to learn from that mistake.

This frame setup is a lot better than what you started with. Lighter and plenty strong. Ideally I would like to see the 2x4 frame rail go inboard and just have a round tubular hoop to tie in with the body at the rockers, but I think you'll do just fine with what you've come up with. Good job taking the good feedback you've gotten and ignoring all the haters. Edit: I'm not a fabricator. A lot of seemingly knowledgeable commenters here pointed out that the butt welds on the rectangular tubing are not going to be strong enough for this application. You may want to add gussets, or as others have said, start over. I don't know how this could possibly be weaker than the original unibody considering how overbuilt the whole frame material is (it's not a truck), but there are people far more knowledgeable about these things than I am, so maybe listen to what they're saying.
@2H80vids4 жыл бұрын
I'm no engineer but, reading the comments, the majority seem to agree with my thoughts. I thought that butt-welding framerails looked kinda sketchy and more than a wee bit intidy. If I might make a suggestion vTuned: keep going with all the jointed stuff, until you get 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 in the right place. Then, use all these odd bits of tube as a template to make the frame out of as few pieces as possible. You shouldn't even need the body on the car at that stage, as you'll know that it all fits. I get the impression you're kinda sick of the sight of the Mustang and I don't blame you. 𝑯𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒂𝒅𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒆? Maybe start by reading through all the comments, from the very start of the project. There's some rubbish in there but some good advice too, as you've seen already. Then have a look at some of the YT builds that folks have suggested/recommended. You don't 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒐 copy anyone but you'll get loads of ideas and see if their worked out. I'm not knocking you vTuned, not one bit, but I do think you could use some advice.😁 Cheers for now, Dougie.

Love the build, good job.
@montyd90104 жыл бұрын
That frame is dangerously scary. You need to take a minute to reflect. This is something that could kill you or save your life and you are building it to possibly kill you. To start the but welds are not safe. The different size tubing used on the frame caused yet another weak point. Ending the tube for a bend is yet another weak point I’m just saying use this frame as a template to build a new one. It is a cool idea but not safe at all. You seem to be making this frame build more difficult then it needs to be. These builds are on you tube. You need to take a minute to watch a few. This is not going to be a road worthy car.

This is an excellent effort on your part. I do see some areas of concern. Frame weight, impact zones, firewall rigidity, and using dissimilar metals between the floor and frame. The amount of steel box can be literally cut in half with formed sheet steel. The weight savings would make a steel floor a better choice for rigidity, weight, and corrosion. Finally forming the firewall with bead rollers, etc will add a lot of structure to the build and stiffen the pedal points. I’ve done several ground up Jeep frames. The amount of steel used is appropriate for a rock crawler, too much weight for a greasy fast Mustang

Consider getting a bead roller and roll some beads into that firewall. It will massively help the strength of the firewall so you don't have to laminate or add more metal.

I have just finished building a Lotus 7, it has taken me 7 years to build, And I did not have everyone on you tube watching me,and commenting on my every move. V tune you are doing a great job, you make mistakes and learn from it and move on. take it from someone who has built a car from the ground up, from what I can see you will have the car on the road in 12 month, that is a massive achievement. Keep going, there are hard days ahead, you will feel some days like why did I start this, and you want to give up, take a break and clear your head. At the end of the built the reward is priceless

Love all the videos and especially the Mustang videos because I have a 65 GT Coupe. Took it apart for paint and to detail and detune the 302 engine. Just need to put everything back together. Thanks

Like I said many episodes ago the floor height would be an issue, now I'd be worried that the brake fluid will boil being in that of a confined space that close to the exhaust

Ben- sometimes the smartest way to make a job go forward quickly or at all, the smartest and best thing you can do is back off, go do something else and let it stew in the "back of your mind". Your own "frustration bone" fighting to prevent defeat will help you and at some point you look up and say, "Dang, son, why didn't I think of that first?" Next time you hit that problem , you likely will, but something different will come along and give you a tougher day than you planned! It's looking really good, there is still a long way to go, and your solutions are getting better and better. BTW, a could two hand clap for the Motorhead Assist Brigade , Division of VTuned Motors!

I'd of taken the firewall from the wrecked car and seen if you could of made it fit into the 66. it has all the perfect bends and all for all the accessories duct work for heating and a/c, the brake booster and other items that go behind the dash.

I have had problems with the pinch roller that feeds the wire, would be a good place to start to diagnose the welder, that or a kinked hose

Yep.. funny how they were right and predicted the frame rails would mean the seat and floor would be too high 👍 Some of us have done this stuff as a hobby and some are qualified... either as a fabricator or as an automotive engineer. Try using the comments section not just to engage with your viewers but to learn and get tips. There’s a wealth of knowledge
@13christbane4 жыл бұрын
obviously vtuned is far from expert too.

@@jamest5149 oh I dont disagree that there are indeed some ACTUAL people that know what they are talking about that are here in the comments. Im calling out the "experts" that just base their comments off of opinions rather than knowledge/experience.

@@SirSmilie I'm not a professional house painter but if I see a guy throwing handfuls of paint at a wall and pretending he's a painter I will say something. I know enough about bodywork having done it for 20 years to know this kid has such little knowledge of it that trying to hack up a Mustang because you have some skills would be a COMPLETE joke if it wasn't done for KZbin
