This was really good! It's easy to be super critical and even harsh of our older works, but I think what you did here with reworking one of your past ideas was reasonably fair. I think you saw the appeal of your original piece while also realizing that its flaws existed due to your lack of understanding, which is pretty typical of beginning artists. In reworking this piece, you managed to portray the charm I think you were originally going for when you had the idea. It's a great reminder that the path of an artist is never-ending and that there's no shame in revisiting our older works, especially since they help pave the way for what we're able to do later and can be recreated themselves if we so choose. Brilliantly done!

That was well said! As you said the path of an artist is never-ending I'm sure a couple years from now I'll be looking back at this video and thinking of new ways to improve on it.

great explanation in perspectives and proportions. i can relate to looking back to my old drawings and being very critical of how disproportionate and weird it looked.

Maybe the ear is up there because the character is looking down? That would make sense as the mouth is so far down on the face same with the nose? Also i personally think you should of made this more dynamc, you could of tilted the entire frame, and you should of had the hand/arm moving as well as the hair in motion as well!

Me: At last, the tutorial for making art not suck! Excaliblader: You have to plan your art with basic structure and perspective. Me: NYEH In all seriousness though, thanks for all your tutorials on anatomy, structure, perspective, and composition. I may not like having to plan out my drawings, but it does look a lot better when I do.

Yeah the technical aspect of art is something not many people enjoy from what I've seen, but unfortunately it's a necessary evil to make good drawings

Subbed! Been loving your shorts, excited to see more breakdowns like this. I'm in the process of learning anatomy for the purpose of figure drawing and solid drawing in general and your videos have been a massive help. Do you think it's important to learn and get a solid grasp on perspective first before trying to learn anatomy? Or should I work on both simultaneously?
@excaliblader11 ай бұрын
Drawing humans is about 90% perspective knowledge and 10% anatomy knowledge, so I'd say put most of your focus on learning perspective and maybe spend 1 day a week on learning anatomy. Also when you're studying perspective you should still be trying to draw the human body, but try to simplify it to geometric forms like boxes and cylinders. Eventually you'll be able to draw characters even if you don't know the anatomy yet.

Great answer, thanks! I will say I'm only 'learning anatomy' in that simple sense still, so I haven't jumped the gun too much thankfully. Still doing very simple shapes to represent the solid masses of the ribcage and pelvis without worrying about intricacies like individual ribs and whatnot, but from your answer I think I should be doing a lot more perspective studies rather than purely focusing on figure drawing. @@excaliblader

I'm starting at all these things about drawing, can i ask u in what app you made your drawings? Also, you know an app for making animations? I want to do them too, good videos!
@excaliblader11 ай бұрын
I'm using clip studio paint, which you can also use to make animations, but you'd have to get the EX version

Hey I was just wondering, at the time of drawing it, did you notice a lot of the obvious mistakes that look off? Like the head proportions. And then skipped fixing them? I'm starting out and every little thing that looks wrong with my drawings I keep fixing them and it takes hours in endless cycles of finding and fixing little things but there's always more to fix.

I dont get the horizon line part how the hell is a single line suppose to get the "perspektiv" of the upper part being further away and the lower part being closer to me? Cus i'm a gonna be honest i cant see the difference between the upper part and lower part 😅😅 I do understand the Horizon line with boxes but with a human figure its alot harder to see. And i am doing this traditionally something that alot of artists seem to avoid doing now adays. 😢
