Awesome idea, Evans. Juuuuust might have serviced the brakes, saved some money on that and taking a look at the setting and servicing the fork might have done more for the armpump than carbon bars :D Love the idea of the series, just my two cents is showing to people that with less money and better servicing they can get great results.

Fully agree. Just service the thing. Don't promote spending another arm and a kidney every time something performs subpar. Save your wallet and be a bit more eco friendly too.

@@jamescurtis9586 They can be engineerd to allow for some flex to help absorb impacts and manufacturers also claim they absorb vibrations. In my experience the difference is almost indescernible between carbon and alloy.

It was cool to see new brakes but you could have put on new pads and a bleed. SRAM Guides are pretty powerful. I use them in the bike park and stop power is not an issue. Maybe you can use those on a future project 😎

Man, I'd have done that a LOT differently. - For the brakes, I would just do a proper service with some new pads and maybe new disks and you should be golden for a lot less $$$. - Not sure what the carbon bars were about either - maybe to reduce vibration? I think some of those Spectrals already have carbon bars if I'm not mistaken. I bet grips helped more than anything. - I'd spend some time to give the drivetrain, shifters, suspension, and dropper post a really good clean and tuneup watching for worn out components. - I refuse to buy Fooker pedals as they're basically a direct chinese copy of Chester pedals.

One of the biggest things for arm pump is proper fork set up - correct air pressure, correct tuning and the right amount of volume spacers will go a long way. Even without a full fork service, just cleaning and lubricating the stanchions and seals would help tons.

@@EvansMTBSaga yes actually I’ve used WPL Forkboost lube. It’s not too expensive and it actually pulls dirt and dust from the inside of the seals. Highly recommend getting some!

That downtube cable shroud is pretty slick. Seems like a good compromise between ease of access and routine cleaning / looks. @3:41" Not sure if it got lost in the edit, but stem pinch bolts should be loose until after you do the top cap and only then tightened down.

man that's a really sick idea! the bike honestly turned out great. would be great if you could find a teen shredder with a cheap bike that needs upgrades. $200 microshift advent x groupset, some value parts and maybe good tires and brakes and i feel like that'd be money well spent

I have the same bike and so far all I have done was brake pads and suspension and brake services. I think I'm clearly not as hard on the bike as him, but I also have rubber caps on my cranks which I think he could have benefitted from also. I also have ergon grips I just haven't bothered to put them on yet.

Never run Sram Brakes, always run Shimano Brakes very snappy feeling, and less maintenance then DOT fluid. Have two bikes a Marin San Quentin 2 which runs well, the other GT Aggressor's Pro 1x11 which I am planning on selling since late November so 6 months of waiting, and the people I am getting are possible scammer's which I don't want looking for actual buyers. First time watching this video, and I am quite impressed.

I've got a 2022 Spectral 27.5 with the external cable routing and I went through the same thing you did... thinking it would make your life easier, then realizing it's actually kind of a PITA.

From my personal experience carbon bars don’t help a lot with arm pump. However just an ergonomic bar with some good grips and a good suspension setup worked for me
