There's an art to welding wire. Basically you start the weld beside the wire , pull the puddle into it and stop. Takes a bit of practice . Tig or oxy is probably easier.

Two things that I enjoy and admire. First you are as much an inventor as a custom car maker. You obviously enjoy figuring out mechanical solutions to problems. The process of designing, trying, redesigning or modifying until it works suits you. Second you always like trying stuff you haven't done before. You don't just do metal and engine work. You are willing to try all aspects of building a car, from engine and power train, to body work, to upholstery, to glass, etc., learning as you go. Good stuff.

I am loving everything about your truck build!!! It’s my favorite build of your thus far 💚 Brent im sure your wanting it finished already but I always look forward to what your doing next on it 👍🏻 your latch is awesome!! And I think once you wrap and fiberglass the back- it’s going to give it more strength as well. It’s got the coolest look!!! You’ve got a great Juki machine- once dialed in your going to be so happy with it! I see with Consews. Great machines! Keep on doing what your doing!!! Great work as always and a BIG shout out to Ester 💚

Hi Brent, if you take a line between the upper arm to tonneau frame hinge point on each side, your panhard mount can be anywhere along that line . If you are mounting the panhard to any of the centre three bars, the mount will be below the level of those bars on but on centre with the arm to tonneau hinge point. Can't wait to see it finished . Hi Esther.

Something that might help on the torsion movement of the bed cover. If you join the two sides together using a section of tubing or two like a ladder. But radius them so they are bowed up near the cover when closed. It is looking great, Brent.

Always awesome to watch you work away, just a suggestion for future reference, if you build another cover that way, if your planning to glass both sides, you could have just used zip ties with the latch sides facing in between the tubes. Your gonna glass over both sides which will hold the mesh anyways so the zip ties would have just been faster. Hopefully this helps! Thanks for sharing!

I like how you made the gas filler nozzle in a normal spot behind the license plate. Most truck's they have the gas tank in back of the bed and the filler nozzle in the back of the bed a awkward place to fill the gas reaching in back of the bed spilling gas.

Hi, why not cross brace, width, top of both horizontal L steel hugging inside bed. could also try 45 deg brace to both pieces. Even a steel piece width of L channel would help and with a bit of a bend could run them down the length with only a few cm's space loss. Cross brace bottom part above new hinge also possible and run up middle, middle both, or middle and half again both sides. Think also a elongated D channel on sides would have been a better option than the L and take away only a few cm's, from width, but add much more rigidity. Structurally It's a bit sketchy and guess will be addressed again at a later date when a bit of wind when open will twist like a twisty ice cream.

Brent, I think if you put a rod on the rear pivot and make it long enough to attach it to the top of the shock barrel on opposite side. smash in center of both rods(conduits) and weld or bolt. I think it being solid at the pivot base will beyond enough and strong enough to make frame solid, especially with fiberglass mesh, JMHO REMEMBER a big X, even put in a unbuckle for adjustments.😅 9:02

It might have been easier using Shade Cloth over the frame. The Shade Cloth is able to be stretched if needed and you could fix it to the frame with little zip ties. Once fibre glassed you could use conduit saddles on the underside and pop rivet or bolt through the fibreglass. Cut the zip ties out or leave them, being that they'll be covered by the foam and vinyl anyway. Anyhow, food for thought. I know you'll work it out no matter what you do. Keep up the great work 👌🏻👍🏻💪🏻

If you add a coil spring - at the top in the center! - that would keep the truck bed cover from moving from side to side! When you pull the bed cover down the long coils spring will help control the forward and backward movement too,OR just use a rubber band type to keep it centered when opening it cover on the bed cover! Now that's my guess! Good luck 🤞

Brent, easy to suggest a solution to the wibbly, wobbly tonneau cover when looking only on TV screen. However it would seem that if the two upper ends of the side arms are connected, arm to arm, by some sheet metal reaching down the arms as far as possible, that would prevent the wippiness. I appreciate clearance over the roof top when stowed is a problem which can only be sorted by yourself. Keep smiling. Hope this makes some sort of sense.

From my arm chair Brent how come you just didn't use strips of metal or washers and sheet metal screws? to hold the mesh down in stead of tying it down with wire? Well any how it holds its great. I've done glass work and that I hate doing it sticks every where when sanding it. Put a ti vex suit on when sanding fiberglass

Just when you got the hang of tying that wire mesh, you were done😂❤ As I said yesterday, I think that if you fill the space beween the angle iron and the side of the bed with a plastic or nylon spacer, the wobble will be greatly reduced. You are adding more weight to the lid, the wobble will get worse

Hey Brent if your doing wire stitching like that take a small steel rod poke a hole in the back with the lathe and put a little set screw in to hold the wire and you have a "needle" on the wire that won't poke holes in your hands and you can sew through the mesh faster and pull on to tighten things.

You should make up a tool bag you take out to the yard when you need something. Put what you think you need in it ans set it aside and if you find you're always needing a tool, put it in the bag. I keep one for when I go to a salvage yard for parts but I used older tools for my bag and only use it when I go parts hunting.

You might consider nylon (or UHMW or whatever plastic) skid cushions on the sides of the forward part of the frame that will glide on the bed sides (maybe even make stainless or alum plates for the bed surface). Flat pieces from sheet stock (a thin slicing board from Esther's kitchen when she ain't lookin lol). At least you won't be gouging paint every time you tuck the front in. Just something I thought of, Brent...didn't mean to dream up extra work for ya!

Use thinner foam layers. Put down a first layer that's let's say 16" wide, then the next layer over it that's 32" wide, then a final layer on top that goes the full width. That'll give you a nice even domed shape.

Extend your new box forward an inch or so on each side, with the gap between the extension and raining arm having a very small tolerance only. Thus the wobble in the raising arms will be greatly reduced and the unwanted load on the pillow bearings also reduced.
