Ken Sugimori, the art director for Pokémon, has said in interviews that he often asks the designers to add something goofy or cheerful to the cooler designs, or awkward to cuter designs, to make the Pokémon more memorable. A good example he gives is Oshawott’s freckles. So many fans have complained it looks cuter without them, but Sugimori said that to remove them it would be less memorable. You can see the same thing in cooler designs with Gallade’s weird hips and Garchomp’s hammerhead jets. I think things like this, making Sharpedo longer and giving Togekiss a neck make them stand out a lot less.

This is why pokemons character designer, Ken Sugimori is a genius. His design philosophy is to add dorky features to complement the cool features. Take Charizard, he may look like a sick fire dragon, he has small arms and a chonky belly, but thats ok! His other aspects are highlighted because of that.

For does who do not know what a deathclaw is, a deathclaw is a lizard which has been heavily mutated by exposure to radiation. It appears ina game series called fallout, they are very fearsome in most of the games (excluding fallout 4, you can cheese it with power armor)especially fallout 3 and new Vegas. Wooper is actually a larval salamander and quagsire is a giant salamander. Baby salamanders lose the gills naturally as they age, not when the water quality is bad like axolotls

Wooper isn't an axolotl, it's just a normal baby salamander, while Quagsire is just an adult salamander All salamanders have gills like an axolotl when they're babies, axolotls are just unique in that they never grow out of their larval stage

Even more fun fact about axolotl gills: the gills can shrink to nearly gone when the water quality is great! If there’s plenty of oxygen in the water their gills don’t need to be as big to filter more oxygen
