Kudos to him for giving horses a second chance. Laying down a horse can be an incredible useful tool.

I now know I know how the exhibition trainers get horses to lie down! however, if a horse is trapped and in serious distress it is a great 1st aid response until veterinarians can take charge. Maybe everyone should learn it along with other horse 1st aid.

This has nothing to do with Horsemanship. It's just horrible. The horse has to be in so much pain pulling this bit in his mouth.

I can't believe this guy is getting praised for his method. There's a reason people stopped breaking horses the old way years ago. It's cruel!

Very disappointed to see any legitimate equine publication giving any credence to this ridiculous "Tap" method. There is no mention of the fact that this is done by pinching the horse's vagal nerve, essentially making them temporarily paralyzed! What about the long term effects of such a so called "training method" on the horse's vagal nerve? Just google "vagal nerve damage" to find out what can happen.

OMG the people who teach EFT tapping would be horrified. This is shutting down a horse not helping it.

I know this guy is extremely controversial and has been run out of NZ. I don't like it, I think it's learned helplessness. However I shudder at the thought of EMT/Firefighters attempting this kind of stuff with a cast horse! ''Oh, oops, we couldn't get your horse loose cause we acciently dislocated it's neck.. OOPS!''
@gerrycoleman72905 жыл бұрын
He is completely off base on understanding horses.

'reinforce correct response'.............yes, but not the way you think. There are no equals in the horse herd. A horse is either higher or lower in status to another horse. When the person is with a horse or group of horses, those horses need to realize that you are the fair and trusted leader. That your status is that of a high horse. When the human leader of the herd tell a horse to do a task (move its feet, for instance) which is pressure, the reward for that horse that moved his feet is the release of pressure (absolutely no a food reward).

Humans are not horses or herd leaders.
@gerrycoleman72902 жыл бұрын
@@sallypenno164 'Humans are not horses.'------------correct. 'or herd leaders'--------------incorrect. If you are not viewed by the horses when you set foot in pasture as the fair and trusted herd leader, then you will have problems. You will be viewed as a lower horse. You don't want that.
