Check the clock battery on these consoles, sometimes the modchip can malfunction if this battery is missing or if it dies. I've seen this happen a few times to my personal collection, replaced the battery and everything was good again.

@@technobear5547 if you manage to find a v9 to v12 ps2 I also have laserfixes for those. Not the romeo mod, matrix pic, comsoft v4 and soon to be subzero fix. Currently designing a qsb for the v9 GH-023 that will integrate both the matrix or comsoft v4 and subzero fix. Cheers!

@@c0rpse1 I'd also check for broken solder connections on the av connector, I've seen this happen with the yellow DC barrel connector on previous slims. Good luck!

Bro, desoldering the wires from the chip without removing the wires from the board, would it work or do I have to completely desolder both sides?

Just from the chip should work. Make sure they are electrically insulated, this is one time I'd use a few pieces of electrical tape.

Sir. It is running fine now on my HDTV thanks to your tutorial.. But it does not work on my Old crt TV using AV cable. Does removing modchip affect it??? I am just curious. But it definitely working on my modern tv

I'm glad to hear that it is running fine now. That's really weird, it shouldn't affect it at all, mine is working fine on HDMI and on my CRT.

I removed the modchip piece as shown in this video and the digital audio module next to the AV output lights up as if it is working properly, but nothing is displayed on the TV and DVD booting is delayed

One of my slim consoles modded with garbage M3 chip, this thing wouldnt let FreeMCboot load after initial logo screen, had to put OPL on autoload to make it useful.

So i had modbo 3.0 on my ps2 slim. I removed it using nice flux and cleaned everything up using alcohol. Now it wont display 😔. The red light turns to green on switching on. Dvd lens moves back in its resting position when i open the lid. But no display. All fuses are showing continuity. What could be the issue?

Hi, I'm sorry but I have no idea. I have a silver slim model with the same issue as yours and I'm still looking for a solution. I'm guessing the modchip messed the PS2's BIOS as they patch some values to make booting copies possible. If I find a solution I'll let you know.

Hi, if you're talking about the silver/shiny thing, it's a cr2032 battery, it's what keeps the PS2 clock running. Sometimes, PS2s don't boot if they don't have the battery in place, so you can try to put one in there and see if it's fixed.

I've seen people report issues with modchips in fat consoles so maybe it works for you. If you're using (or attempting to use) FMCB then the modchip will most likely be the cause of issues. Please report back if it works!

I have the same problem and when I removed the cover to detect the malfunction, I found modchip : dvd-9 .This may be the cause of the problem, but I am afraid to remove that piece for fear of why I do not know what will happen after that. Will there be any other problems when I remove this piece?

Hi, thanks for the nice words! Regarding your issue, it sounds really weird, it may as well be the modchip causing problems as I suppose it is the only "foreign" thing inside your console. The power button is clearly working as it turns on fine. My guess would be that the modchip is the culprit, but I can't be certain as I never faced such an issue before.

There is a ps2 model scph-30004 and it works with dvd discs for a while, but now it does not work and I have the same problem. It does not work as before. It does not display on the TV. I have modchb inside. When I removed it, I miss playing the dvd and if I miss it, what should I do to get it back to how it was before

Hi, there are a few things you can do: you could get a new modchip (I don't recommend it) or you can take a look at Mechapwn (it's a jailbreak done via software that allows the loading of burned games, the same as a modchip). I'd suggest going for the Mechapwn option, you'll need to have a way to boot homebrew (like FMCB) and then boot and install Mechapwn. After that, your console is done and you just need to burn your games to a disc again but in a special "Mechapwn format".

Hi! Just desoldering from the chip should be enough, but be careful to make sure the ends of the wires don't touch the other wires or components. You can put some tape on the ends to insulate them.

I hate those blue things on the cables i had like 3 come off when i was repairing a fat ps3 two of them i put back on with double sided but one of them I had to replace the cable because it was then too thick of the connector

Hi, if there's no modchip then the issues could be anything else that has gone faulty with the console, you'll have to try to diagnose it. I don't have enough experience with this issue without a modchip so I can't point you to any direction, I'm sorry I'm of no help. :(

If you trust your soldering abilities, removing the modchip is not hard and it has no drawbacks other than you can no longer play pirated games, that's it. I think removing the modchip (or maybe just desoldering the chip but not removing the wires just so you can re solder it if needed) is a worthy test to see if the console works after that.

That's sad news :( , then I guess it's permanent damage due to the modchip, maybe damage on other places such as the EE os GS. This issues are hard to diagnose in my experience.

If you're having unexpected shutdowns because of heat (or you think it's because of heat) you can replace the thermal pad that the console comes with and see if that fixes your issue. Another issue could be the fan not working properly or not working at all, in that case you should replace the fan.

Hi! You could first try to clean the port a bit with isopropyl alcohol to see if that changes anything, if that doesn't fix anything maybe you can try another AV cable if you have one spare, and well, as a last resort you can try removing the modchip and see if that fixes it.

Hi, modchips are known to conflict with FMCB, so I think you don't lose anything by removing the modchip. Modchips are kind of useless now as we have FMCB and mechapwn so if removing the modchip fixes the issue, you can easily install mechapwn to run burned DVD games

USB games should still be working fine, I'd suggest using uLaunchELF to check if the USB drive is being detected by the console, and also it may be a good idea to update FMCB. If none of that works it may be a hardware issue but I think it's less probable

Hi, I can't assure you that removing the chip will fix it, but in my opinion it's an easy procedure and it's harmless to the console, so I'd say it's worth a try

Modchips are also known to have issues with FMCB and homebrew, I experienced it myself being unable to launch any homebrew from FMCB due to the modchip, if you use FMCB and other means to boot games and homebrew other than DVDs, then the modchip is useless I hope it fixes the problem for you! I have another video in the works in which I show that the modchip is not always the issue and other signs that the modchip may not be the issue (such as the fan also not spinning for example)

Yes, in this case the issue was a faulty modchip that was shorting some points in the PS2 motherboard.

Don't know if your console is a fat model or not. If you're using FreeMCBoot/FreeHDBoot then you don't need a modchip, and it's probably causing issues. Modchips are known to cause issues with FMCB/FHDB.

I have a problem with the display, whenever a put a specific game to play, black lines will flash in the right section of the screen. These lines are mostly flashing, when it's something graphical intense like walking in water etc. But this is the only game that does that. I have ps2 slim 90004 which is modded. Could be the laser doing this? Because it's starting to get bad

Hi, if you ask me, I don't think it's the laser. If you want to rule out the laser, you can try to load a game via OPL, if the game works fine then it may be related to the laser, but if the game displays the same error, it is probably related to your hardware. The issue can be something stupid like a modchip starting to fail or something worse like the SoC starting to fail. It may also be a scratched disk (I think it's unlikely tho) so maybe trying a fresh burned copy of the game may be also a good test.

If the PS2 is not turning on I'd say there's no harm in removing the chip, specially taking into consideration that modchips tend to also interfere with FMCB, so if you plan on running a soft mod you may as well remove the modchip to be safe

I just recently got a slim ps2 just friday it worked for a couple hours then all of a sudden so signal...thats 2 slims I have no signal *sigh* I know its not the av cable because I also have a fat and that does have a signal! P.S I do not have a modchip in it but I do use freemcboot

I can't say for sure what's wrong with your PS2, if you don't know if it has a modchip it's difficult to say, if there's no modchip it's probably problems with the CPU or GPU (afaik they are both in the same chip in the latest slim models). If you don't know if it has a modchip or not then it's better to take to a repair shop, I guess they'll know what's wrong

If it doesn't have a modchip then it will be difficult to tell, it's most likely with the SoC (CPU, GPU) and it can't be easily repairable unless you can find a similar SoC and swap it with a hot air station and a reballing kit. I don't have a lot of experience with PS2 repairing and I have a silver model with the same issue as yours and I couldn't repair it. I'd take it to a repair shop or get another one if I were you

That's an issue I never faced before. I'd say it's a fault on the DAC (digital to analogue converter) but to be honest I don't know :/

I've heard a lot about faulty modchips causing issues, but in my experience most PS2's that have the symptoms shown in the video usually have other issues, but removing the modchip doesn't hurt to try and may work
