The sand paper is there for a reason. You effectively just put a paint wart on your car that will look about as noticeable as the chip or a wart on your skin. You want to sand the chip first before anything to knock down the sharp edges of the chip. Then you prime. Then you sand again to knock down the rough surface of the primer. Then you apply the color. Then you sand again to knock down the raised rough paint. Then you apply clear. Then you sand one more time to knock down the rough raised clear coat. Now you do one final sand to level everything out with the wider area. Then polish the entire panel.

I’m glad you made this video. Now I know I’m not alone in my lack of skills at applying touch-up paint. 🤭

It's harder than it looks! Ultimately this did turn out good enough given our lack of talent. A pro could do it way better, and we're keeping the paint pens to see if we can have a friend with more experience touch it up a bit more ;)

I recently ordered from the site and have yet to receive an update on my order. Did they take awhile to ship out your paint?

I'm currently working on a project on my hood, where I've made many mistakes and I have used Automotive Touch-up, quite a few times because one of the times one of the 2oz touch-up bottles I kicked and it rolled all over the ground where I was working! Yeesh! In fact... I was looking for a way to review them or give them a positive review just now and came across your video. I ordered the kit like you did and got the compound and everything else plus the touch-up bottles and then just now I ordered the spray paint can as well as another touch-up bottle. They're great and their color matching is spot-on!

You should mask off the areas where you don’t want paint to run

That would require me having both patience and foresight, of which I generally have neither 😂

I think the process requires a lot of PATIENCE. THIN layers work best. Too much product was applied at one time. Our painter wanted to get it done and over with. Extra time spent will yield better results. FORD has a paint pen with a tip that resembles a large ball point pen. The paint comes out in a small bead. I purchased these pens for my GMC but haven't used them yet. I don't know about these "magic marker" type paint pens. Great company and products but I don't know about the design of these pens. Like @danchandler 3225 suggested, I think I'll mask off the areas I don't intend to paint.

Oh, absolutely. And patience is something I do not have when it comes to paint... at least not consistently enough!
