Level the bucket. Put it all the way down. Roll the bucket down. It will pick the front off the ground about 12 inches. I do it all the time to service the front in.

Spray the muck boots down with pam cooking spray. See what happens.

Did the outer seal lip get damaged when the stub axle slid out. I wonder if the groove is wide enough for a spirolock ring.

That’s not a bad idea. This thing is about due for me to rebuild the front end again. I’ll have to see if I can find a spirolock that will fit. The outer lip seal did have a little nick in it I noticed when throwing it back together. I might to replace the outer hub part too. I kind of did the ol “well let’s see if that will hold up for awhile til I can get around to it” 😅

Well, I guess I don't use/abuse my 2001 JD 790 as much as you do. I've never had the first problem with the front end on mine! 😆 Knock on wood. Great video though, if mine ever does that, I'll know what to do. But you know, you REALLY should put that tractor inside a heated barn and CLEAN THE LIVING CRAP OFF OF IT!! It deserves it!!!!

That’ll happen, I rebuilt the gears on this one when it did it last time. It’s actually not that tough of a job. That whole hub is assembled and reassembled with a punch and a hammer

That is such a bad design, my JD F930 had same type of retainer. I just drilled thru groove ( had rounded over) and installed roll pin and safety wired it. Never !ost a wheel afterwards. You should look up videos on how axles are retained on a "Salisbury" type differential, might give help. Thanks for sharing, made look easy, but I don't think it will hold up. Good luck 🤞

True it’ll probably break out again. I guess my only worry is, if that clip doesn’t pop off… what will be taking the brunt of that stress instead. BUT, at the same time that retainer clip does seem underbuilt. That’s not a bad idea at all though what you got with the safety pin really seems like the way to go!

The simplest fix for your situation might be to fish stainless steel safety wire thru the two holes on the snap ring, not allowing it to expand?? You would probably have to Dremel a small pocket under the two holes of ring to allow room for the safety wire to pass through. Take care

Ashame you don’t have a bigger tractor to drag the bad one back to the barn or shed.

True that would be helpful that’s for sure. Luckily at least I’ve done this job a few times now so I can knock it out decently quick
