It's because of this video that i learned most spanish classical guitars don't have truss rods!! and the nut isn't glued in either, this is so fun to learn! I have been fixing mine and all my friends' electric guitars and basses for a long time but i've never been confident enough to try acoustic or classical guitars, but watching you has really helped give me that confidence!

Yeah, the tension on classical nylon string guitars is generally much lower than on steel string guitars, so they usually don’t need truss rods.

Great video! Still a few remarks: When deepening the slots for the frets it is advisable to make a few strikes with a small triangular file to protect the edges of the groove when a future fretjob should be needed. And when hammering the highest frets it is advisable to place some pieces of wood for the protection of the soundboard clamped between sound- board and back. But great that you are making people aware of the fact that a bowed neck can be cured.

First of all, let me say this is a wonderful channel, and this specific video is near and dear to my heart (I love classical nylon guitars). That being said, have you ever tried heating the neck slightly and clamping it in a slight back bow while it cools? Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. If the frets were in good shape, this may be much quicker and simpler. But your work on this is amazing!

As many times as I’ve seen you complete this process it never gets boring and I always feel like I’ve learned something new. Question! Why do you heat, I assume, the frets prior to removing them? As always, great job young lady! Be safe and God bless!!!

Heat helps to loosen the glue, if it was some. And even if there was no glue it still help to pull frets with less fretboard chipping

Hi. Great video, really instructing . I plan on restoring an old 50s or 60 parlor steel strings guitar with a bowed neck. I was wondering why you waxed (I suppose it's wax) the fingerboard before doing the fretwork. I would have assumed that it's done in the finishing process. I add that I'm pretty much ignorant about luthier work😅.

Interesting string wrapping and nut filing techniques. No testing with a gauge on the first and a tuner on the third fret? What up with that slotted saddle? We do it totally different at my shop.
@TanyaShpachuk
@TanyaShpachuk Жыл бұрын
Just a standard classic way of wrapping. After all manipulations with neck - it`s turned out that nut require just a bit of filing, so in this case I check it by a light gap between sting and 1st fret. And that was not a slots on a saddle (😅), metal can leave some dark stains on Graphtech nuts and saddles, I didn`t want to sand it from that side, bc stains not really big, ang overall geometry was prefect 😉

Question ,why would you ever superglue the frets in ? ,the whole point of hide glue aside from its historic use and being natural is that it melts at high temperatures ,thays why you need to heat frets with a soldering iron in order to remove them. (Just asking since i also build and restore guitars)

Over time, the wood can change in size and this can cause the frets to pop out of the grooves a bit. To prevent or minimize it you need to glue them :)
