For situations like this, you could use a grout bag with metal tip to basically squirt the cement/concrete directly into the crack. Ensures the crack is filled right down to the foundation, and also eliminates the overfill, thereby leaving a nice clean line.

@@matt7iron don't bother, the crack will come back next day because you have 3 separate slabs of concrete. The concrete will expand and contract with temperature changes overnight. There's no way the patch is going to hold those 3 slabs of concrete so it'll crack. Go paint something else. Won't pass the inspector when trying to sell the property. @benjamintucker19645 жыл бұрын
Hey Ron , Thanks for watching and subscribing there should not be a problem with expansion what so ever, as concrete dries to the form it is set in, just make sure your ground is compact and clean,
@senseisecurityschool93372 жыл бұрын
FYI for other reading this . Concrete *shrinks* slightly as it cures - it doesn't expand. By keeping the outside moist as it cures, the shrinkage results in internal tension that adds strength. (Essentially the concrete is trying to pull in on itself, holding itself together).

Looking at these videos to learn how to repair cracks in my driveway not anywhere near as large as yours. Question some videos show putting an insulation type material in first, then repair material over. I live in the North East and get cold winters so wondering if the insulation material helps with expansion in the cold. Your thoughts?
@benjamintucker19645 жыл бұрын
Hey Paul, good question, it is possible that the insulation might slow the temperature change, but I was thinking maybe the insulation was packed in there to keep an excessive amount of concrete from falling through the bottom of the crack. hey I just subscribed, please throw one back this way, and have a good rest of your weekend
@williamevans21764 жыл бұрын
If you live where it freeze/thaw don't use a masonry/concrete material, you will be wasting your time. You have to use a material that flexes with the movement from the freezing and thawing. Any rigid material like shown in video will crack again since once concrete cracks it becomes an expansion joint.

I don't understand why you use the blue tape on one side of the crack and not the other? What is the purpose of the tape?

Do not repair your concrete with Sand Cement viewer's. That's all that is being used here and it will last for about a week If you have a crack like these, break out the small damaged sections, dowel, reo, pour new concrete. If two large sections have cracked, sawcut, remove 400mm section, dowel and concrete. For small cracks used an epoxy based mortar, they cure to 80Mpa, the sand cement in the video will cure probably 5Mpa. PS Tradesmen dont work in Jeans, dead giveaway.

@@benjamintucker1964 PS unlike you, I'm guessing you have no qualifications, no trade your just a handyman. Hell maybe it has held together for two years, that does not mean it's the correct method to rectify this sort of damage. My message to anyone watching is this, dont use unqualified handymen unless you want a shit job.

You forgot to mist the area with water. Any patch job needs to be damp. Your area will crack in no time.
@benjamintucker19643 жыл бұрын
mist of water is not going to make a bit of difference , the concrete mix has water in it anyway

This is the kind of "handyman" that i have had to comeback and redo what they did. What is the idea of the blue tape????? It makes no sense to do that. He did not add fortifier to the morter. The work was not leveled down to the original work. Driving over the repair will crack it faster.
@benjamintucker19642 жыл бұрын
Blue Tape is an edge to work to know how far to float the cement out to, The Concrete is not level from tree getting blew down, and causing one side to be higher then other, The work still looks the same after repairs were done 3 years ago, quit hiring "Handyman" at $7.50 an hour and you may not have as many problems dumb ass with no content and no uploads of his own to show

Not even close to how this should have been repaired. Sure might look OK for now but in a year it will all be cracked up and spalled everywhere, not to mention the material that it will be cracking off the surface because it is so thin. Not a good representation of how to fix concrete cracking.
