Personally I am not a fan of fake sounds, but it is your car, so build it the way you want it.

Fabulous journey on arguably one of the most amazing car designs human eyes have seen. Love the sense of humor to get the job done - all the best with the build guys - cheers from Buderim

Put the sound in with an on/off switch then you can displease both folk another great episode making good progress

Not always a fan of the synthetic noises. An on/off switch helps a lot with what mood my passengers or I are in. So would better sound sampling. That jet sound in the Hyundai is not helping...

Make noisiness optional. On the sound front, the quietness of EVs is one of the things I most value about them, so I wouldn't add sound, but if noise is something you value, do it for your car and be prepared to turn it off at times.

Maybe you could use a masonite panel for sound effects like Rolf did? I hope you pay Matt well, great problem solver. 👍

Adds a whole awkward new meaning to "I'm Jake the peg .. diddle diddle diddle um ... with the extra leg". That didn't age well. And yes Matt is a treasure, although I wish you hadn't mentioned pay.

Another great episode. How is your weight distribution having all the boxes on the drivers side? No doubt already considered. Would you need as much sound deadening without an engine and noisy exhaust underneath. Maybe road noise I guess.

Thanks. Good point about the Left/Right distribution. Haven't been too concerned to date. The bulk of the cooling elements will go to the left side. Sound deadening : yes not much motor noise but mainly tyre noise and I expect creaks and groans from that old suspension.

surprised you were able to get a master cylinder repair kit. I had to replace the entire master cylinder in my S4 many years ago because Porsche didnt allow or endorse repair kits for safety reasons.

From the good folks at 928sRus.com. Sold as a kit suitable for early 928s. SKU 928 355 913 02 or 00. Which is in the Porsche parts catalogue as a repair kit for 924 Turbo M/C. But you're probably right - maybe not endorsed by Porsche for the 928. I can see why. Tricky job.

I look forward to a time when I'm not woken at 3am by some hoon deciding that our road is good for a late night blast at well over twice the speed limit in something with an illegal exhaust. Sounds good to him, but it's f-kin anti-social for everyone else in the street. If EVs do anything to dampen down the fetishisation of noisy shitboxes I'm all for them.

Every time I follow a reasonably new Hilux, Triton, Amarok, Ranger or similar choofing out grey clouds of skinky shite I do wonder - is this really the best we can do with a new family "car"?

I just had a listen. Goosebumps. Had to replay it half a dozen times. A totally over the top toy for the ultra wealthy, but what an inspired piece of engineering.

The whole EV silence thing is not really true in a practical sense. I went for a drive in a friends Tesla Model S and at highway speeds of 100km/h plus it was louder, due to road noise and Tesla build quality, than my father's new Mercedes C300. Drive a modern ICE vehicle on the highway or at low rpm and the majority of the noise is road noise anyway so EVs, on the inside where the owner spends most of their time, are not much quieter anyway in a practical sense. Personally I would not bother with a noise emulator on the 928 due to a couple of reasons: i) You have at least one ICE Porsche 928 at home so you can experience the real noise whenever you want. ii) The emulated noise, once novelty wears off, will be noticeable as fake iii) This car is going to be an awesome vehicle in its own right that will be enjoyable to drive and once completed relatively cheap to run. It does not need to imitate anything else, as it will be a very nice car in its own right and will I suspect be one of many EV 928s that will follow.

You're quite right. The bulk of noise at highway speed is from the road surface and (to a lesser degree) wind. In the 928 it's particularly noticeable from the rear tyres. I find the stereo pretty useless in any of my 928s. Hence I do want really good sound insulation everywhere. Regarding the noise emulator, I do want to be able to leave silently to go to Sunday morning Cars and Coffee, so it will be switchable on the dash. But I would like to hear the burble from time to time - if just to entertain those people at C&C who inevitably say "but without sound it's not a real 928". And I think they'd have a good point. And I hope you're right about the first of many. I'm learning a lot about what to do and, more often, what not to do.

@@inCARnationAustralia As a 911 owner and Porsche lover, for me the 928 is a GT Cruiser that effortlessly crushes continents and yet when you arrive is still fun to drive. For me its greatness comes from its seemingly effortless engineering rather than its engine or noise. The electric conversion on tired old 928s just seems like a practical idea; which rather than detracting from the original ethos, dials right into the concept of engineering excellence and effortless continent crushing capability. Converting a 911 to electric means you take away the very thing that makes it a 911. The level of maintenance and cost to keep a 928 on the road compared to say a 944 Turbo, which delivers reasonably comparable performance, makes electric conversion a no brainer particularly once the path is well worn by a few early adopters. An electric 928 with quality sound deadening and a very nice stereo strikes me as a nice companion to a well sorted ICE 911 or 944 (provided you don't need backseat!!). Conversions like this are saving 928s from the scrapyard and are gift to other drivers who will receive the joy of its good looks. Just don't do any Singer style retro modding to the looks as the original looks are 100% perfect and do not need 'updating'.

@@MrCarrera28 100% agree. You totally get it. I also have owned 911s, 944, a beast of a 996 Turbo, Cayman, and at least 6 x 928s. The 928 is the perfect car to convert for the reasons you so eloquently elucidate. I hope it's to be the first of many and starts a trend.
