I recently took an IX3 on a long 10 day road trip. Was happy to return the car. It does not deserve the badge IMHO. The car seats are uncomfortable, range is no where near claims On average 300km on 100% Brakes are soft and you feel the weight of the car. Poor turning circle. More of a soft cruiser than sporty electric SUV. There are so many better alternatives at a fraction of the cost. Would not even consider taking this car if it was free.

@nigelgraves87845 күн бұрын
looks good ! Is your ride height set too high at the front ? If you drop it by 10/15 mm it may help improve the clearance so the tyres don't catch the plastic.
@inCARnationAustralia5 күн бұрын
Yes ride height is way too high at the moment. I photoshopped it lower in the thumbnail but once the car is weighed, shocks and springs will need to be replaced, and ride height set.
@benpenagonzales60145 күн бұрын
If you lower the front suspension it may alter the set up and then not foul the wing as it’ll be lower down the radius of the wheel

Love the project, it’s been fun to follow. This may be just my opinion, but those wheels are way too big for that car, it looks ungainly. I feel like a 928 only looks right with wheels up to 17”, anything larger looks goofy to me. That being said, don’t listen to me, just move forward with whatever you like. Such a fun project to follow!

Fair comment. Starting to look like a last century hot rod. Luckily I have a set of 17" BBS that are more period-correct. So I have options...
@MrCarrera285 күн бұрын
@@inCARnationAustralia 17 BBS on a 928 would look great. BBS are one of those rims that manage to look simultaneously period correct and modern. So would look right on a classic 928 but also would be consistent with the underpinnings which are definitely more modern than classic. As someone who runs ultra low profile tyres on the back of my 911, they really are a pain in the butt in the sense that they wear are so fast and are so easy to rub on a kerb when parking particularly with the 911's much wider rear end relative to the front. 17's with a 40 or 45 side wall would be better and since you have stated you are building something true to the 928's origins as a sporty GT, any slight loss of performance will not make a difference in its intended use.
@kasmstamps18975 күн бұрын
The 928 was a dream car when I was growing up. Last year I bought my first brand new car after 35 years of saving. A BYD Dynamic Seal. The Premium is sweet spot but I went with getting solar panels and 30 TSLA instead. The solar means I can drive as much as I want. All the best.
@markedwards48795 күн бұрын
He Stu, looks good. What’s the offset on those new wheels? Bear in mind that bigger, heavier wheels will affect range and acceleration… Also, the tyre pressure monitoring may only work once you get moving above 40kph for a bit. The transmitters go to sleep when not in use.
@inCARnationAustralia5 күн бұрын
Thanks, noted. Offset ET59. Yes, I did note how much heavier the new wheel/tyre combo is. Boo. Probably should have gone even lower on the aspect ratio but really didn't want to go as far as 30 profile. But if they don't work out, I can swap with the BBS 17" on one of my other cars which look good and are more period-correct.
@markedwards48795 күн бұрын
ET59 is pretty good, especially if they are wider. Looking forward to a ride soon ;)

OK using MG components for an electric 928 project is acceptable but buying one for an everyday road car ? There is no lower quality vehicle on our roads today. I recently had the misfortune of being forced to drive an MG hire car for 3 weeks. What a piece of shite ! Something about either the lack of simple ergonomics and quality made me swear viciously at it every day. An 80s Mitsubishi Sigma would be a better car to drive everyday, such is the backward step these Chinese piles of rubbish are.

We have an MG4 EV and it's not a low quality car at all. Not perfect, but great for the money. My main gripes are to do with the software/GUI and not the car or the way it drives and handles. My only other real complaint is a low frequency interior resonance on some road surfaces that should have been tuned out before production.
@inCARnationAustralia5 күн бұрын
@@GRAHAMAUS I've reviewed them a couple of times on the channel and so far I am also impressed with the car overall - body rigidity, lack of rattles, etc. Agree about the GUI and software. It works but a little bit laggy and low-res compared to the latest Chinese cars. No complaints about the performance though. Just breathe on the throttle and it hauls! Desperately needs a quality Recaro-style seat though to match its performance.

Not sure I entirely agree with the statement on EV vis ICE fires. Statistically you are correct, but what are the circumstances? Age of fleet, market share, weapon of choice. Revisit in 5 years time and let’s see. I know what sort of fire I would want to fight, if I had to. As for leasing, would a buyer intend to keep an EV for more than 3-5 years normally, or would they turn it over in that time frame anyway (lease or not)? Is this a good thing? Make me understand. Just saying.

It's like a badge of honour. And on that topic, funny how EVs get abused for being heavy and should be charged extra for wrecking the roads yet all the best selling blokes cars - HiLux, Ranger, Triton, Amarok, etc... are all considerably heavier.

Why would you handicap it?
@inCARnationAustralia13 күн бұрын
A reasonable question. Firstly I'll say that you don't have to use that mode. You can have it delivering maximum power with or without noise. Or you can choose to emulate a petrol engine's torque curve. The reason is that for track drivers used to the characteristics of an ICE engine it can help them in many ways, for example : - judge their braking points based on gear and revs - provides familiarity for those used to taking their ICE cars to track - variable engine braking based on engine revs - i.e. using the gears to adjust weight balance or trail-brake into corners Basically it's a useful tool if you're used to driving an ICE car on track and switch to EV. Helps you judge your brake points Josh Buchan is a championship winning race driver here, and he believes the difference at Sydney Motorsport Park between simulated ICE mode and maximum attack is around 1 second per lap. But for less experienced drivers who need those reference points, it could be the other way around. Basically they did it because they wanted to appeal to "real" drivers who love the feeling, sound and punch of petrol motors. Part of the fun of a petrol car is the punch when you change gears, or the feeling of the car "coming on boost" or "getting on the cam". That's part of the challenge of ICE motors - keeping it in the right power band. Albert Biermann and his Korean engineers say they are doing this to create as much appeal as they can to petrol-loving track drivers. And I think they succeeded. It's a ridiculously fast car in any mode.
@edism13 күн бұрын
@inCARnationAustralia you're answering the question "what is that feature making the synthetic engine sounds?" you didn't answer my actual question buddy, I know what it's for but not why you selected it and you're incorrect, that noise reduces power due to torque curve emulation. There are modes on that car better for benchmarking performance than the one you chose.
@inCARnationAustralia13 күн бұрын
@@edism Incorrect. You haven't driven it have you. You can select various engine sound modes - some of which do not reduce the torque at all in "single gear" max-torque EV mode. As I said. You skimmed through my reply without actually reading it. Also I did answer your exact question : I explained WHY Albert introduced this simulated gear stuff with a ICE-like torque curve. To appeal to petrol heads and track day enthusiasts. Some of the other stuff the engineers did just because they wanted to. The simulated jet fighter mode (that doesn't really appeal to me) the engineers wanted to do as Top Gun Maverick was being released in Korea at the time and they wanted a sonic boom effect with a big kick in the back. So they just did it. They were operating on the principle that it's easier to ask for forgiveness than ask permission.
@CodyRushDriving8 күн бұрын
@@inCARnationAustralia I had never heard about the jet fighter mode! That actually sounds really cool. I probably wouldn't leave it on that one, but for the novelty I love it! There's too few features added to cars these days for the sole purpose of giving them personality...especially EVs. Kudos to the engineers for having a little fun!
