Hi and welcome! This video not only shows how I deal with buddy sour horses, it explains and demonstrates my strategy to fixing the issue. In this video you see me instruct the owner Jeaneen as she learns how to work with her two “hormonal” horses. You also see me work with 3 horses, brining in the 3rd “problem” horse into the dynamic.
Click here to watch Part II: • Buddy Sour Horses: How...
This specific buddy sour issue is about mares and geldings being too possessive and territorial. They need to be pastured together, ridden together and stalled together. So, what do we do about this unwanted and potentially dangerous behavior?
First, let me introduce the two horses and their owner, Jeaneen. Leeta, the black Arabian is the mare and Callan, the golden Rocky is the gelding. While Leeta can be very “marish” during her heat cycle, Callan can act very “studdish” or stallion-like around Leeta. Neither one acts this way around other mares and geldings, leading me to believe they genuinely like one-another. While I appreciate their feelings toward one another, this behavior presents a huge problem for the stable and herd.
Both horses have spent time with me in training and know me and my way of being and working well and that is where you need to begin first, with a solid level of education with each horse. Establishing rapport and education with each horse first and individually is what will allow you to work with them together. The level of education should be strong enough to be considered foundation training which not only teaches your horse specific skills and behaviors, it develops a great relationship with them too.
WARNING: I want to emphasize how dangerous it can be working with two buddy sour horses together. I do not recommend it until you have a strong and solid working relationship with each one individually. Then introduce the two of them together and while leading, online, so you have control. Establish respect for you and leadership first, individually then together and online before together and free in a round pen.

Guess this might be a strange question but wondering if you could ever film some footage of the “big herd“ with Zoar and Lita. You were talking about how they run the big herd together beautifully. I love watching it heard instincts, behavior and all the subtleties...

I love watching this training, I don't ride horses but I am learning a lot about about the principles of Caroline's training. To be honest I am not quite sure why. ...... I am 79 years old and I watched Dressage and Horse jumping during Covid19 and I asked myself after several months, "How do people get horses to cooperate and be trained?

Amazing as always ❤️ You schooled those horses well ! Biggs is hilarious, just a naughty kid lol, but when he grooms you it’s so cute 💕💕. But I think he has A.D.D. He can’t stand still he always has to be doing something such as the grooming !

Can I put an aggressive mare that kicks out with submissive new gelding in round pen or bad idea and work the aggressor mare
@TaoofHorsemanship
@TaoofHorsemanship 5 ай бұрын
Hi User and Welcome! I do not recommend putting an aggressive horse out with any horse and yes, I would work with the aggressive horse individually. In the end, aggression is a displaced behavior, a learned behavior and coping mechanism. Horses are passive followers by nature and avoid confrontation and aggression unless they are stallions or a mama protecting her baby - natural instincts kick in. The three horses in this video have all been trained/developed by me. They were recently reunited after a couple of years apart and that's why I am working with all three. I am also a professional who knows what to do and again, these horses know me and know my work so they are easy to control. If you would like help healing your aggressive mare let me know, I can help you, Caroline@taoofhorsemanship.com.

Hi Caroline, I’ve always wanted to know. Have you ever trained a horse for a movie?
@TaoofHorsemanship
@TaoofHorsemanship 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sarah! No, I haven't and wouldn't. Same reason why I don't show. I don't want to make a horse do anything, or compromise them, and not allow them to express themselves. For me, liberty and play is an extension of expression and personality and not all horses are cut out to be that expressive when asked. No different than people. Some are naturals at speaking and performing and others aren't. We must respect what the horse, each horse, is capable of doing and support what they excel at.

@@TaoofHorsemanship - I 💗💗💗'd jumping...but after very few shows, I quickly decided that I ❤ horses far more than most "show" people & ribbons. I made the decision to completely stop showing, but continued to jump privately. One of the best decision I ever made. There is no better feeling (to me) than having your horse join up with you & giving you that great ride because they WANT to, not because you want them to perform. My 11 years of being accepted into the herd is one of my greatest honors & privileges. I never took it for granted. I had earned their complete trust & respect. I achieved it with zero cruelty, just by listening to what they were telling me each day.

Holy cow .reproducing is probably one of the strongest instincts in any creature and here you are amids a herd as tophorse reseting theyre instincts to establish behaviour that is acceptable within the domesticated habitat.that is a massive amount of skill and knowledge.most of us probably just settle on seperate paddocks and that is probably wise as one wants to be very skilled to acclomplish this without frying the Horses brain or getting hurt😊

um . You're no Frédéric Pignon. You need to educate yourself more ...all you're doing is giving them confusing cues and it's sad because they're really trying to decode your intentions. I also hear anger and aggressiveness in your voice. You need to figure yourself out before attempting to be a confident and clear leader.. sorry

Hi Kumi and Welcome! Wow, what hostility and arrogance. I never said I was Frederic. Why don't you spend time on your own channel, teaching people what you believe is the best and right way instead of wasting everyone's time criticizing me. In the end, the horse will never lie. I achieved what I needed to with these horses and they are happier and well adjusted and that's because I helped them learn how to socialize.
