Hi and welcome! This video not only shows how I deal with buddy sour horses, it explains and demonstrates my strategy to fixing the issue and within 3 short sessions. You also see me work with 3 horses, bringing in the 3rd “problem” horse into the dynamic.
Click here to watch Part III: • Fixing the Buddy Sour ...
This specific buddy sour issue is about mares and geldings being too possessive and territorial. They need to be pastured together, ridden together and stalled together. So, what do we do about this unwanted and potentially dangerous behavior?
First, let me introduce the two horses and their owner, Jeaneen. Leeta, the black Arabian is the mare and Callan, the golden Rocky is the gelding. While Leeta can be very “marish” during her heat cycle, Callan can act very “studdish” or stallion-like around Leeta. Neither one acts this way around other mares and geldings, leading me to believe they genuinely like one-another. While I appreciate their feelings toward one another, this behavior presents a huge problem for the stable and herd.
Both horses have spent time with me in training and know me and my way of being and working well and that is where you need to begin first, with a solid level of education with each horse. Establishing rapport and education with each horse first and individually is what will allow you to work with them together. The level of education should be strong enough to be considered foundation training which not only teaches your horse specific skills and behaviors, it develops a great relationship with them too.
WARNING: I want to emphasize how dangerous it can be working with two buddy sour horses together. I do not recommend it until you have a strong and solid working relationship with each one individually. Then introduce the two of them together and while leading, online, so you have control. Establish respect for you and leadership first, individually then together and online before together and free in a round pen.

It seems watching Zor groom the others in his herd can tell you about how to handle the members of his herd. Good food for thought. It's simple and profound at the same time.

I tryd this with the eating problem. We have a biting and pushing bos horse. The last in rang gets nothing if it comes to him. I was standing in between 5 big horses playing mom. Leave the baby alone..and i ment business. Just my voice and energy made a different. The hole eating went very wel. Thank you for al your good videos . The more i be in a clear energie and just ask them to doe something it works better than all the pushing and pressure and release things. My bos is not into this like mee so she keeps feeding the bos horse first. and she always did this from the start. Is this something that made it so bad ? These are all rescue horses that used to be very dangerous and had a lot of issues. The thing what i don:t understand is..if people go to the horses they have to leave there backpack from the past or stress from the day outside..bud the backpack of the horse is the first thing you get to know even if they are the swathes thing now .And every body keeps telling it over and over again. When is the time to say the horse is a horse and start just at day one. Like if the riding goes bad go back to a to b and so on.. I am very often alone at the barn and i see very different things then my bos." The horses can"t doe or like stuf"" but i just doe them anyway with them and have no problem.. i don:t know why . I never listening to the the things that they can't or won"t doe. I just see horses with different characters like people or kids. You have to just ask and doe things different for every body..

Hi Sarah! Great question! That all depends. A healthy, emotionally balanced horse can positively effect a less happy, healthy and balanced horse and vice versa. Just all depends and definitely an area we must pay attention to.
