Fixing the Cooling System on our Massey Ferguson Tractor

There should be a thin metal or fibre plate between the back of the water pump and the timing cover, if this is not fitted the coolant will react with the aluminium timing cover and eventually eat through it. It will then dump all the coolant into the sump and seize the engine!

I replaced the water pump on my Massey Ferguson 35, 3 cylinder diesel, the water pump looks the same as the one you replaced, I actually put a 135 diesel fan on mine and had to source a 135 fan. I managed to find a brass plate, cost next to nothing, to put on the back of the water pump. From my reading if my plate corrodes it can be replaced, if the metal on the engine behind the water pump corrodes you end up with water in your engine. When I did it I removed the body work and radiator to access the water pump, you have to empty the radiator anyway and that way there was a lot more room to remove the hoses and pump, plus you can remove and later reinstall the fan with the pump attached to the motor.

Got Mf 135 3cyl diesel running after sat in field after fatal accident. Had been stuck in 2 for good while even before accident but with KZbin got it Unstuck this past weekend. No brakes but managed to line up to attach his brush hog. Knew of significant coolant leak but ran 30 minutes or so before running hot. Let it cool and then rode back to park it til next time in Georgia to work on coolant system. If it turns out to be the pump, where do I get the plate or gasket, Brass or otherwise. New to this stuff but learning a lot quickly. Appreciate you guys for the info and tips
