At Rock Hill Farm and Homes we upload new videos at least 3 times per week, about our 20 Acre hobby farm, our John Deere 2038R compact tractor and other equipment, and the businesses that we run.
These businesses include a manufacturing operation, a Christmas tree farm, real estate investing, a lawn care business, and an online retail store. I demonstrate how I am able to use these ventures to earn a good living without a traditional job.
We have some cool toys and always think outside the box on our little homestead so come along for the ride.
You can expect new videos from us every other day, usually around 8 AM.

It is handy for trenching. The only part of it that is a hassle is it’s harder to get the spoils away from the trench if you need to I have done several trenches with a front hoe Thanks for watching

That sounds like how most of my projects evolve. I need to do one simple job , but in order to complete that job, I end up creating several other jobs that need to be completed before I can do the one "simple" job.

Terrific info. Thank you so much for sharing. I have a worker that was trying to explain this to me and now I get it! He did most of the work and left a space for the box so now it's up to me to get er done!! Thanks again.

I saw a video a few years ago. They drove over that corrugated pipe with a pickup truck. It bounced right back into shape. The gist of the video was showing that the corrugated pipe is the best to use in those situations. Over the heavy PVC piping. The PVC would break when the truck drove over it. This was with the pipe laid on the ground. Then also at different buried depths. The corrugated outperformed the PVC. So, you did it correctly!

I’ve seen those demonstrations too. I do think there are also different grades of the corrugated pipe and the cheaper stuff doesn’t hold up quite as well. All of the drains I’ve put in with the cheap corrugated are still flowing though so it definitely works Thanks for watching

Excellent information. I couldn’t find anyone doing a channel drain without using concrete, and I have a gravel driveway. So I will do it your way. Would you consider doing a video showing how it handles water and the water coming out of it at the other end?

Nicely done Brock! Thanks for taking the time to record these projects... I am learning a lot! I appreciate the fact that you share how the project evolves as you get into it and any lessons learned. I'm also starting to see I might have more use for a backhoe attachment than I originally thought... so if and when I get a new tractor I might need to get the backhoe attachment with it. Just have to see how many times I could rent a small track hoe for what the attachment would cost.

Thanks. Renting versus buying is an interesting conversation when it comes to a tractor backhoe I shared my thoughts on it here, but everybody has a different situation and the Backhoe can almost make the tractor purchase cost prohibitive Why I Hate Renting Equipment kzbin.info/www/bejne/eWPQlJWebdqjqrM

Which do you think is faster and better for digging a ditch/trench? The stump bucket or the backhoe?
@RockhillfarmYT
@RockhillfarmYT 2 жыл бұрын
Great question. Overall I would say the Backhoe is better If it is a short, shallow trench I use the stump bucket because it is quicker to setup and it is easy to maintain a depth On a longer trench it is difficult to dump the spoils. You have to drive the loader to wherever you want to dump them which often means you have to back all the way down the trench, or you have to drop your wheel off in the trench which can collapse the sides or possibly even lead to a rollover One reason I continue to show trenching with the front hoe bucket is because some people may not have the option to spend $9000 on a backhoe. How much that rock costs? 5 yard bucket per scoop?
@medjoolmaker
@medjoolmaker 2 жыл бұрын
It’s $69 yard here in south Florida , x 5 yard scoop. = $345 Pre pandemic, was $50 yard,
@RockhillfarmYT
@RockhillfarmYT 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t know the conversion rate but everything here is priced by the ton instead of the yard. I haul 5 tons per load in my dump trailer. Last year I was paying $35 for 5 tons with the fines in it and now it’s $40 for 5 tons This load of clean rock was $54
@medjoolmaker
@medjoolmaker 2 жыл бұрын
@@RockhillfarmYT a cubic yard is about the same as a ton, so your $54 costs me $345. We have no rock quarries around and must truck or rail in down Florida. That’s a good price you’re paying!
