INSTALLING TILE DRAINAGE TO OUR WETTEST FIELD!!

Today is the day we have been waiting for!! The equipment has arrived and the guys are finally installing tile drainage to our wettest field!! It is a very interesting process, so we wanted to share it with our viewers! We hope to see a lot of improvement in the drainage of this very wet field.

Had no idea they did anything like this! But I do know, the dozer and the backhoe has a device on them. That is taken readings off the tripod, to get the levels where they need to be! Other people are saying Ken was looking at the dozer and saying he can't do that. But I think he was looking at it and saying Me and Bill can do that Boss!! Lol Y'all stay safe!

Oh, WOW! I'm impressed, Brenda! We are blessed with an irrigated 2.5-acre hobby farm with two 125# LG dogs, Hannah and Arlo, 3 cats for mouse control, 50± chickens (including 2 roosters) 5 garden spots and 52 assorted fruit and nut trees. I'm out harvesting grapes and almonds today, so can't watch the whole video right now, but I can't wait until dark so I can come back in and watch your whole video! Jim, we all have our ways and methods, and last time I weaned a foal, she went into the yard, w shelter shed, where they spent their nights. I quickly shut the gate before her mother got to it, all calm and strolling, said to the filly "That's it, you are weaned". Mare in the paddock, foal in a stout yard, see touch commune but not suckle. Peace. After a few days the mare began to wander and graze, and about a week later the mare was totally removed to the home farm. I had handled the filly and never any trauma. And you have the advantage because she no longer fusses when Lady goes off to work, lays and sleeps.

I think the pvc tileing pipe to so much better than the hard concrete/stuff we had to use in the past when my Dad had tileing done on our ranch and the way they do it now is better, we had a backhoe, digging the trench the whole way, and we were laying the tileing pipe ourselves behind him, and it was, I don't remember how many days it took but it was definately more than a couple. And the pvc being in coil is much better than pallets of stick pipe that you had to unload....you will love the results of having a drained field! Love the videos!!

I totally agree. When heard tiling all I could think of was something similar to tiling a floor or backsplash. I've learned a lot about draft horses, working a farm, and life in upstate NY.

Yes, the pipe was running pretty good already by the next day. Could fill a 55 gal drum in just a couple minutes. 20 gpm or so, already.. :-)

Some machines that lay the pipe use the laser to control the depth of each pipe, creating a gravity flow downward. That applies to the main line and the branch lines. Don't know if this machine has a laser control on the back to adjust the big plow. It does look like an antenna rising up from the rear of the plow that would interact to the laser..

In times past, field tiles were made of clay pipes, which, when made on a half- form were also used as roof tiles. I believe that's why it's still called " tiling" even though it's now perforated plastic drain piping.

I see in the drone village at the bottom of the field the other trench that run down to the woods by the cabin. I take it to that drink leads to the Pand maybe now there'll be more water into the pond. Or will the pawn need to be dug out a little bit to handle the amount of water? Just wondering looks very interesting. And hopefully, it solves the water problem and allows the excess water to run off. So next summer, haying isn't an issue.

When I was younger? I worked for a farmer that did tiling an that was a lot of hard work When you were working in a wet area an water was running in the trench Because we used a wheel trenches not a plow

I love watching lets " get it done men and machines" who really know what their doing .I found the best policy is to do what you did Jim . Shut up and get out of the way. I have seen where only the ground where the trenching was done, was cultivated and seeded. Does that make sense. Saves a lot of plowing .

The farm I worked on back 20 years ago tiled 200 acres over 2 years. We just took the tandem discs and straddled the tile runs and kind of chopped up the ridge, but didn't do too much leveling that first fall. The sinkage over the winter was quite a bit, and the next spring we chisel plowed the runs fairly well, but we were putting corn in so didn;t have to be immaculately smooth, we picked a lot of stone! Next year we went at it and smoothed the fields for seeding down and used the rock rake and stone picker to pick the worst, then sowed the barley and hayseed and hand picked with fork and wagon after. All in took 3 years to get the tile runs worked in once they stopped settling. The tiling people back then told us it would be a year for the groundwater to create the new channels and "find" the pipes. I just spent a long day doing custom manure spreading 5 miles away, took 1.5 hours there to spread 14 loads, and then 5 miles home, got back at disk. Had 3 on the spreader. Now eating steak! Cheerio folks.

In my county, Kent, in S.W. Ontario, just about every field is tiled, and has been for 50+ years. We are so flat, and on heavy clay, the water would just lay. It was said, at one time, that we had more tile in Kent county than in the entire province of Quebec.

Bill, I believe the term you're referring to when you say "lazering" is surveying. That tiling will undoubtedly help when you get a good soaking. Can't wait until you're able to cut hay off that field next year.

The tractor manufacturer Allis Chalmers made some great stuff. The common theme was operator know how, knowing how to apply that big power without breaking stuff. Pushing rocks turning with the blade not the drive clutches, stuff like that. That's what I mean when I say Jim is a smoooth operator, ability to operate smoothly and effectively within the boundaries of the machine. Some got it some don't. They say this 21c good for long consistent runs with good speed, so well matched for field tiling, plus one guy said half the price of a D7 Cat. Anyways...Cool Video, big Power! Thank you

We are having 20 acres tile drained this week. A first for us. Wettest year ever recorded here in south west nova scotia. Half our hay crop is still rotting in the fields. The whole field we are doing looks like your "wet spot". We went with a 30' spacing. Currently running at about1 gallon every 2 seconds from the 6" line and the field is only 2/3 done. Huge costs but evidently the yield and season extension on both ends will eventually pay off. kevin from nova scotia

Well worth the money to have that tiling done, especially when I seen the footage while you were on the sled - very swampy looking. It would be impossible to harvest anything out of that area, hopefully this will make it much more usable.

Thanks for sharing that. its the same process I used in my Satellite business. burying "Sat" cable. with what they call a "Ditch Witch" cable spool sat on the witch and it cut it's own trench and laid the cable down same way as this tiling was put down. same process just bigger toys! thanks for sharing. That is some pretty serious machinery they are using, I would hate to think of the cost of putting that stuff in, but it will be a God send to be able to use your whole paddock. looking forward to seeing more of it. I saw field tiles laid once when I was in high school in the F.F.A. Chapter. We went up to Cornell University for an F.F.A. convention and there was a demonstration of laying tiles on one of the farms near the University there. A very interesting process, indeed.

That should help drain the field really well of the excess water big equipment so they don't have to dig a trench to install the pipe. Thanks for sharing this video. God bless and keep safe.
