I ended up doing this, because I had flushed my car's coolant system four times. Still was getting a cold heater. I used Draino instead of CLR. Then used dish soap. Flushed it out both ways several times out with warm to hot water. Now my heater works like a charm. Thanks for your information!!

CLR eats the aluminum! So should be great lol. White vinegar works exactly the same way for a fraction of a cost. Good luck everyone.

Can I flush the system without flushing the heater core? Because my coolant is brown but not that brown I put the correct coolant in but I think the people that it before me used the wrong kind. Coolant isn’t low but the warning started flashing maybe a month after I topped it off.

How did you figure out which is the inlet and outlet hose ? For heater core I can't figure it out on my Audi A4 03
@gregorythoman8281
@gregorythoman8281 5 жыл бұрын
On my 06 A4 1.8t the heater hoses are on top of each other the supply side is the lower hose and the return is the upper. But, you can tell which is which because the supply comes from the coolant flange at the rear of the engine.

I don't know if Dexcool is compatible with G12 or G13 (the coolant spec for your car) but I would imagine neither GM or VW/Audi will declare that. Use the right spec.

The main reason the A4B5 heater won't work. It's the foam on the heater box flaps has disintegrated. To check, remove the centre vent in the dash & look for bits of grey foam. If you find it, you need to remove the heater box & glue new foam over the flaps. A cheap, but time consuming job to remove & replace the box. Be patient. It can be done. Remove the actuator motors & cut thru the carpet under the box for better access. Remember the movement & positions to get the box out do you can get it back in.
@martinee4901

Or you can remove the whole dashboard. If not, you will need to cut thru the centre upper vent duct & reflux/seal it back on afterwards. I looked some nichrome wire around the back of it, as high as possible & connected wires to it & a car battery to 'hot wire cut' thru it. Depending, removing the dash might be better.

I flushed the cooling system in my Miata project 12 times and it was never perfectly clear! I need to flush again with a dedicated cooling system flush and see how that works.
@gregorythoman8281
@gregorythoman8281 5 жыл бұрын
I do not recommend using CLR. Always buy a coolant system flush. CLR has detergent in it which will screw up O-rings etc. Never use any coolant that is not specifically recommended by the OEM.

@neilcharlesyoung

you are so wrong. first you need to take out the a/c condenser in the firewall.of course you have to have a machine to get the refrigerant in the a/c system then you have to take the glovebox,center console,then you will see it in the PaSSENGER SIDE.then you have to get the whole A/C and heater core in one assembly unit. takes about a day to it. EASY LOL

Nah, it's a pain, remove whole dashboard, A4B5, or remove the clips holding it to the aircon box & cut thru the upper centre vent & reseal it afterwards, there's no need to keep the springs holding the centre vent.

GM's DexCool did the same clumping BS. What a waste of time after doing a half assed flush. Use some CLR in the core for a few minutes before you flush with water. You realize by taking shortcuts and using wrong products that all you are doing is fucking up others. What did you do with all the toxic waste from the job. Where did you dispose of the coolant?
