Awesome video! I need to do this to my '93 when I take it back out this spring. The lifters were seeing their end days before I stored it for this winter😂
@Bubbaj226 Жыл бұрын
Why not do it during the winter? It is better to do maintenance during planned downtime than during up time

Dude that was awesome, best video Ive seen for a small project like this! Only question is if you do go with new lifters do you have to do any other form of valve lash adjustments??
@AmbiVe3 жыл бұрын
Not with this project. The hydraulic lifters take up slack automatically assuming there isn't damage. If it was an NB or other solid system you need to check the shim tolerances.

Hi, Thank’s, i ‘ve to do the same thing. I just removed the valve cover but i’m blocked with the cam. Before to take-off the pulley you do not make marks on the belt and pulleys? Thank you for your answer, i have my head in the engine 😂

Where did you buy the set of lifters?
@FroggyMiata4 ай бұрын
what you did you do to keep your timing belt on while taking off the camshafts?? did you not remove the bottom pulley either??
@AmbiVe4 ай бұрын
Usually I just use zip ties or something to keep the belt teeth in the same place, then verify nothing moved when I am putting everything back. Generally it's just a game of counting teeth on these and checking the marks just to verify it's all good. Making sure the engine is TDC before taking things apart makes life easier when verifying.

did you have to retime engine or where you good buy just keeping belt on cam gears
@JAPerror8 ай бұрын
You can see he put zipties on the cam gears to keep the belt from jumping any teeth if the belt moves you'll be forced to retime the motor, so this job is possible without having to retime the motor as long as you just put zipties thru the cam Gear & over the belt so it can keep the belt in the correct time

Do the camshafts have to be placed back the same exact way it came off ?

I think so or needs to be retimed

I rebuilt the lifters yesterday and primed all of them with oil and they are still ticking, do I need to let them “run in” at all? Please help.
@AmbiVe Жыл бұрын
If they are filled and ticking, you may need to let them run a bit. It could also be a little air in them or you could have play elsewhere. It could also be the oil you're running combined with how worn your valve train is. You can make guesses by how bad the ticking is, if it changes with temperature or oil pressure, etc.
@Mx5buthead Жыл бұрын
@@AmbiVe it is due and oil change, do you think this will help?
@AmbiVe Жыл бұрын
Old or thin oil will definitely make it tick or make it tick worse. It also depends on what oil you're running for additives and viscosity.

You have done a righteous installation with that rebuilt engine. Did you built it yourself, or buy a short block? I have a 1.6L Miata, and I only rarely have a little lifter tick, and then only at start up. Frequent oil changes (around every 6,000 miles or every 12 months which ever comes first) keeps a fresh load of detergent in the oil. That may be what keeps my lifters rather free running.
@AmbiVe3 жыл бұрын
It was a rebuilt short block the girlfriend sourced and we prepped. I think they either didn't prep the lifters when they did it or it just sat forever in a warehouse before we got it. Either way, it's great now. Maintenance is definitely a key.
