Good on you for bringing your partner in and that she is keen on participating with you. She will be a great asset to your team if she chooses to get more involved with the fabrication. The more practice the better women quite often have steadier hands so can make really beautiful even welds easier. Plus if you two work together you'll be able to get through more projects. Looking forward to more videos with both of you working together.

I'm looking forward to the finished steering. I'm curious how it'll perform! A little feedback: a lot of the camera action is a bit shaky (which is normal for the way you're filming). If your camera (a GoPro I guess) has image stabilization, try enabling that for a smoother picture.

Hey there! I have seen a lot of these rams come loose! I know they only come with 2 clamps, but you get another set for cheap. Adding more clamps definitely helps! I was super fortunate to get to go wheeling with you at Trail Hero! I had the Blazer thing. I super hope we get to wheel at the upcoming winter jamboree !!!
@kyleroth10252 жыл бұрын
Hey @Rudys Adventure and Design. I'll split hairs. Draglink goes between the Steering Pitman Arm and the right knuckle. Tie rod connects right knuckle to the left knuckle. It's all good. It don't matter what you call the parts as long as they all work together.

Hi Rudy ….. have a look at your fathers steering on his wrecker. You rightly mentioned Ackerman and on your dads truck his axles have incorrect steering arms ….. in fact they are opposite to what he needs. I have left a message on his KZbin video too. Derek (Retired automotive design engineer) 😊👍
@jamesbigham90362 жыл бұрын
Rudy I agree with Janelle I can see you hitting that on a rock and that would ruin your day luckily who knows who to make a call too. Good job Janelle on your first time welding I was impressed you will get better with practice I like how this is a family oriented channel keep up the great work
@darthgbc3632 жыл бұрын
Looks great. But if you really want to freak out all the gear heads, put the steering ram on the rear of the front axle housing. Swap the knuckles left to right & vise versa. Now all the Ackerman angles will be closer to correct & there's a better chance of protecting parts. Watching you build this, inspired me on better solutions. Basically, new thoughts for today.

Nice Work and an excellent Video. Years ago, I ran into this same problem with a Full Size '78 Ford Bronco. Polyurethane Kits from James Duff helped some but unfortunately with a lift the steering geometry was somewhat unpredictable whenever you hit any sort of bump. Your setup would have solved this but at what cost.....and at the time with 3 kids we needed to sadly solve the problem by trading the Bronco for a Minivan.... With respect to your install, that looks like a LOT of expensive unprotected hardware and by trial and error I have found if you leave ANY vital parts unprotected, they will get bent. That being said, I admire both you and your Dad's abilities to fabricate and build extreme off road vehicles and pray the Bureau of Land Management and the Environmental Lobby in Washington, DC doesn't decide for budgetary reasons to close down all land access to everything except the pavement. If that happens, probably the best vehicle you could have would be a Rollback....
