Fixing the Segway ninebot mini pro

My Segway ninebot mini pro doesn’t do anything; There's no lights, it doesn’t charge, etc. This video goes through what I did to fix it and get back to riding. Follow along, hopefully this will work ;)

OK, SO HERE IS WHAT I DID. I HAVE ALL TYPES OF SELF BALANCING TOYS. LAST NIGHT I WENT TO MY MAIL BOX ON MY S MAX HERE AT THE OLD FOLKS HOME. IM A DISABLED VETERAN. I GOT MY MAIL OUT AND THANK GOD I WAS HOLDING ON TO THE OFFICE DOOR AND THE TOP OF THE MAIL BOX'S. I STILL FELL FLAT ON MY FACE. IM WELL OVER 80 YEARS OLD AND THAT HURT. I KEPT TRYING TO TURN IT BACK ON, THEN THE LIGHT FLICKERED OUT. I DRUG THE THING BACK HOME. THE CHARGER KEPT SHOWING GREEN. I JUST NOW TOOK THE BATTERIES OUT. THE BATTERY WAS BLINKING RED. I CHECKED THE POWER, 19 VOLTS. NOW IM CHARGING IT AND IT SHOULD TAKE ABOUT 8 HOURS. IM PRETTY GOOD ABOUT KEEPING EVERYTHING WELL CHARGED. I SCREWED UP HERE. IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN HAULING ASS AROUND TOWN AND THAT THING GAVE OUT, I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN SERIOUS TROUBLE SLIDING ALONG ON MY FACE.

I used the wiring pin diagram and wires to avoid having to cut the cord. I also used a volt meter to confirm polarities. The light on charger flashed red and green for a couple minutes then went to red. I plugged via the port for about 30 minutes before reassembling and charging to full. I usually leave stuff like this to my bf but I did it all myself via your video. So happy to safe the price if a new battery. Thank you!!

This totally worked for me. I left it on the charger for 6 hours with no problem. Left is red, right is black.

PLEASE BE CARFUL! I work on these every day.. let me clear up what happened to you (and happens alot) 1 of 2 things.. 1.) You left the hoverboard idle for a long time.. The battery goes into a sleep state after something like 120 days.. 2.) You ran it dead and left it dead for some time.. This can also put the battery into its protective "sleep" state. While in this sleep state the BMS (battery Management system) is off.. It no longer has enough power to run. That is why it wont charge threw the charging port.. NOW FOR THE WARNING.. When you bypass the BMS and apply voltage to the entire pack you are no longer using the BMS! This means that it will not be balance charging the pack! THAT IS DANGEROUS.. This is how fires happen.. DO NOT FULLY CHARGE THE PACK THREW THE MAIN POWER PORT! When you apply power to the power port you will wake up the BMS. Thats good but DONT leave it on! If you need to "wake up" or otherwise rescue a battery, do it for a few minutes to get the battery BMS back to a working voltage (5-10 min is all you need.) THEN PLUG IT IN NORMALLY! Please.. I have seen WAY too many fires..

do have to cut the cord? or could i use jumpers to put power to the power port? and see not very long at all, just 5-10 mins.

@@abhvgas If you are carful and confident in your abilities to identify correct polarity (meaning which side is positive and which side is negative) from the charger port and the battery you can use small wires from the charger port to the battery terminals directly instead of cutting it off.. That's actually how I would do it because I don't want to damage my original charger. At work I use a variable power supply and manually turn up the voltage to the recommended level for a few minutes to wake up the battery and then I use a normal charger afterword.

i did what you said and left the wires plugges into the battery itself for 15 min and i’m charging it normally now but the segway isnt giving me signs that its cane to life. the charge has changed to green rather than red and the screen on the segway hasn’t turned on. can you help me out? thankyou!!

@@marie-ve4fh Unfortunately it sounds like you have a faulty BMS (battery management system) circuit board or the BMS thinks that there is a problem with the cells/ connections inside the pack that it cannot solve.

my son drove into the water, the segway was all wet, I dried it, when I turn it on it does not work, unscrewed the battery, it works and charges, but when you plug it in, it does not work, any ideas how to restore it?

Please help! I have revived one just like this, but I have another that the battery of blinking green. When I install it, no power will come on the Segway. When I plug it in with battery installed, it blinks like it’s charging and shuts off and repeats that. But since battery is charged the charger box shows solid green. Any ideas? Could it be motherboard?

When you ran down the battery did you have to do this all over again or did it charge normally from the outlet?

Hi good day so this method worked but I did my connection a little different because the changer was cutting off. The battery was to low and causing the charger to trip. So I had to put a buffer in series with the battery. Buffer meaning a large resistor... yea im a technician. Anyway thanks its charging normal now.

After Assembly Can You Now Charge Like Normal Or Do You Have To Remove Battery Each Time?

After assembly you can charge like normal assuming you don't let the batter completely die. I believe if you let the battery completely die, you'll need to redo the battery jump procedure.

@@beardedgarage I had a similar issues that my battery was completely dead and i revived it but now it will only charge off of the hoverboard when I put it back it it will read battery percentage and i can ride it normally but as soon as I put it to charge it starts beeping at me and will not charge any suggestions?

I'm actually a little confused - you cut the wire but then basically put the wire back together and it charged normally??

@@pkk639 - I cut the wire to charge the battery without the Segway in the loop. When the battery is really dead, the electronics in the Segway motherboard don’t allow the system to charge the battery. Once the battery has enough charge so the Segway recognizes it again, then you can charge it normally.

I couldn't understand why you cut the wire (I'm not remotely good at electrics) but you totally made sense now you've explained it (it doesn't take much to confuse me though). I've cut my wires and my charger light is now red. No light on the battery YET but I've literally just done it so I'll give it a good few hours. Thank you sooooooooooooo much, really appreciate your help and responding so fast (and at all).

Hello my charger is red and battery light blinking green when doing cable method with 110w from wall but as soon as i remove the cable and install charger to original slot battery starts to blink red and charger has constant green What could be the problem?

How long did you leave it plugged into the wall? I plugged it into the wall and unplugged it every few hours to test voltage. It took probably a solid day of charging to even get the lights to come on for me. If you're seeing battery blinking red and constant green on the charger when plugged into the original charger, let it charge. I think that means the battery is accepting the charge.

Just wondering, why didnt you just plugged in directly like you did the 2nd time? Isnt that worth a try? Im having the same problem and i just disconneted the battery and charged it directly with the original charger and adapter. Do you think it would work? (Been charging it for an hour now, i get the red light on the adapter and the blinking red on tha battery.

honestly I went back and forth on trying to get the segway battery to come back to life. What I did in the video was the only way I got it to come back. I watched a bunch of other videos but none worked directly other than what I tried.

45 psi is pretty high.

@@beardedgarage the manual does say that and the tire itself says 35 max on mine. I'm 180lbs and run 25 to 35 . Takes the jolts out of riding. You might try lower pressure and see the difference. I use mine for work and I have hundreds of miles on mine and they are fun. They do handle more agile when hard as a rock but you feel every little bump.

@@beardedgarage it's a common discussion on several groups about these things. Just find a psi that fits how you ride and what you prefer is my take. I'm 60yrs old and just took up riding EUCs. The higher pressure does get more range and is great on super smooth cement but not so much on the rougher stuff. Have fun !
