Can't we just spray WD 40 or lubricant spray on it to make it free and smooth.?

I believe the bushing actually swells so you need to drill it out so it’s the right size again.

I got mine off, got angry because who has a 12.5mm drill, then just did it with a 13mm while swearing. Still seems to work, hasn't really solved my problem though.

I did this and it didn't solved my issue. Changed oil in gearbox also. Gears go in but they are stiff and left to right is ok. Could there be an issue with cables or below gear knob to put some grease on cables?

Sorry Buddy but this is not the proper solution. I've done mine 5 years ago, and still feels like a brand new. So what you should have done, remove the selector arm, and clean well. I used petrol for that, because in the middle there is a groove. Clean well the groove and the pin, than use SILICONE GREASE ONLY. not any other grease. All drilling part was unnecessary.

I’m glad you found an alternative solution that works for you. It’s well documented that the bushings in the selectors swell due to heating and cooling over the years, that’s why people report the problem worsening when the car is warm - something which isn’t caused by dirt and would not be solved by cleaning alone. That being said, your point is a good first step for people to try before cracking out the power tools 👍🏻 always good to add to the knowledge pool 👌🏻

@@MendItModIt Sorry I didn't want to be offensive. I've done this job twice.After first attempt that was 100 times better, but few weeks later it wasn't perfect, and I did it again. So the selector arm doesn't have any bushing. What seems to be bushing in the middle is only sticky grease residue. Only a groove there to keep some grease there. As I sad, it must be absolutely clean (the groove itself and the pin), then apply Silicone grease because that is really heat resitant. I think because of the heatwaves, the factory grease loose one component and become really sticky, like a glue. That cause this problem.Anyway, if You will feel some old sticky thing in the future, which will be absolutely mild but annoying (after you've done the job) just try what I said. only 1 hour job, so not a big deal. Thanks for the video anyway!

@@istvan5400 no you didn’t come across offensive at all. I appreciate the input. “There’s more than one way to skin a cat” - as they say 😂 if it ever crops up again I’ll give it a go. I’ve got a Mountune short shifter now which works a treat 👌🏻

@@IsSOfficialY Except drilling, all the procedure is the same like this video. I believe you can clean out the hole in the arm and the pin, and again USE ONLY SILICON grease!!!! My gearbox still working well since I've cleaned and regreased ~8 years ago

Would this help if the gears are stiff when cold but loosen when warm? I have changed the gearbox oil and that hasn't made any difference. The clutch seems to be alright and not dragging. Could this Bush be stiff when cold? Cheers
@maxdavies9958
@maxdavies9958 3 жыл бұрын
I had the same same issue with my fiesta, it was fine when warm but when it was cold it was very hard to get into gear, winter made driving very hard. Done this and car feels brand new, so just do it because it doesn't cost much if anything just a bit of time and it makes a big difference. the reason it changes with temp is because the temp expands and retracts the fitting.
@josephturrall2333

Did your gears feel notchy like you were hitting something when going into gear? Mine aren't stiff as in its really hard too move the stick it's more like it feel crunchy going into gear.
@maxdavies9958
@maxdavies9958 3 жыл бұрын
@@josephturrall2333 I only have that going into 1st gear and reverse but that's the crappy design of the gearbox, i'm not sure sure about yours, I think it's worth a try doing this anyway though since it's such a simple thing.
@josephturrall2333
@josephturrall2333 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I will try this and also try bleeding the clutch aswell too see what's causing it. Sometimes the gears go in smoothly and then they feel notchy, it's quite intermittent. I have changed the gearbox oil but that made no difference so I'm definitely thinking its either linkages or clutch is dragging
