Thank you @Gary Belmore! I was worried that the threads would catch on things inside the boat, but they weren't as long as I thought they were going to be. So I would probably do, as you said, if I had to do it again. You make a good point with the nuts being exposed to water

Does it matter if we put it inside or outside? Also, I'm looking at a 12 ft v hull , that needs new wood on the transom. The seller had a 9.9 on it. I wonder of the 420 cc with a mud motor kit would be too heavy or not? Any thoughts? That's why I'm thinking about new wood to make the transom beef up
@JTgatoring4 жыл бұрын
Beefing it up wouldn't be a bad idea. If the wood is easy to replace, Might as well do it and make it whatever thickness you want. Just make sure it's not too thick to where you can't mount anything on it. I put the metal on the outside to fix my boat, to sandwich the sheet metal in between the wood and the plate I added.
@homergarcia53604 жыл бұрын
@@JTgatoring I had the 6.5 predator on my old 14 flat bottom.. but I wanna add the 420 now. The problem is it's a 12 ft v hull nymph. And online it says 10 to 15 hp. And i know the 420 cc plus kit is gonna sit at 100 pounds ish total. Just kind of looking around to see if anyone has tried something similar.
@JTgatoring4 жыл бұрын
@@homergarcia5360 I've had a lot of people say that they have put it on a 14 ft v hull but not a 12. If you feel like it's gonna be too heavy, then it will probably be too heavy. Go with your gut on it.

I’m gonna do that same thing. Would you recommend going bigger with the plate ? And thickness is 1/4 enough? Im gonna be re enforcing my 14-36 sears. It already has two floor braces from the get go. Im gonna add some braces on the top like a video by send it jon boats did and then do this plate method to. Im gonna be running a 670 gotta be sturdy. Do you think the plate would be better if it covered most the back or at some point no ?
@JTgatoring11 ай бұрын
The 1/4 plate is enough, especially if you have a 1/2" thick wood or more in the transom. That size plate should be plenty.

Where can I get one of these plates?? Been looking on amazon but all I see is 12”x12”... was thinking 12”x 14” or something similar. What size is yours? Thanks
@JTgatoring5 жыл бұрын
I have a family member that works at a metal fabrication company. They were able to get the specific metal I wanted and cut it to size. The size was close to 12x12. The major thing to look at is where your rivets or bolts are for your transom. I don't know if the plate has to be this big, but its held up great every since I did it.

Those bolts are probably going to interfere with the outboard
@JTgatoring3 жыл бұрын
Possibly. I never tend to run an outboard on this boat, but if someone were to do this on their boat, they could drill their holes the same as the mounting pattern on their outboard and through bolt it that way so the outboard would not interfere with the bolts

Well I got The Alumacraft 1436LT and the trailer it was sitting on at Academy. Already had an issue with Academy that is.. ok so I get home and realize they forgot to give me a Bill of Sale for the trailer. No big deal. Return the next morning to get a copy then head to the DMV to register them. Guess what, after waiting to be called I found out Academy didn’t give me an MSO to title them. I go back and they tell me oh that come from corporate in TX and it can take 30 days. I was a bit 😤 pissed. So I can’t register until I get the paperwork from corporate? Have you even heard of such a mess...

Sure, it depends how you would like it. I did it this way so that I wouldn't get stuff hung up on the threads. If the threads were inside the boat, then rope, fishing line, and maybe some skin could get caught on them so that's why I put the threaded side on the outside.

When selecting hardware for aluminum boats. Stainless is a poor choice as the galvanic numbers are very different from aluminum. Zinc is very close to the same galvanic properties of aluminum. A good economical choice is hot dipped galvanized if aluminum rivets aren’t feasible. This will minimize galvanic corrosion
