More progress is made on my 1978 F150! There isn't a day where this truck doesn't test my patience, but that makes it entertaining...right? All jokes aside, I really do enjoy this truck and am looking forward to cruising around in it.
This truck is on a shirt! You can find it at junkyarddigs.com

I started teaching my 11 year old niece how to drive in my 1976 F250 Ranger Super Cab, 7 years ago. You remind me of her. I also taught her how to do basic auto repairs, on the vehicle I sold her. Now she does not have a problem with doing work on it her self, other than not being sure how to do the job. She (and you) make me proud. A lot of young ladies are not interested in know anything about a vehicle other than how to put gas in, and how to start it. If you need any help, get in touch with me. I know you have someone who is helping you, but it takes a community to help raise up a community.

Cheers to you for teaching your niece! I teach my 13 year old daughter whenever I can. Let alone the fact that girls love to wrench and we should encourage them - we should encourage ALL young'ns to at least be familiar with the various systems on the cars they drive, what can go wrong, and what to do if something breaks.

My Dad owns a '78 F-250 that I drove when I was a teenager. My favorite thing about it was the spacious interior, loud exhaust, and the smell of oil on everything. Lol That smell always reminds me of my Dad now. I ended up buying an '87 F-150 later in life from my Grandfather. Same smell. Same nostalgia. Love these trucks and love your passion for working on older vehicles! Keep it up! My faith in humanity is restored for every video you and Kevin make!

Learning how to do your own garage work is something else. Go girl! My dad had a taxi company. When I was 20 years old he gave me a car. I thought wow what a dad. But the thing was the car broke down within two or three weeks. The gas pump went. He helped me pull at home. Then he put a gas pump on the corner of the kitchen table with the gasket and he said the wrenches are downstairs. Or you can tell it to the garage and pay $75 an hour and let somebody fix it for you. I learned very quickly the value of repairing my own car. Alternators. Batteries. I even replaced the starting motor with two broken starting motors using parts from both. So now when I pull out $1,200 to have the ball joints fixed on my Wrangler, I realize the value of having a garage fix it for me. I could do the job myself, but I don't want to. I can afford it now. But I learned how to be a grease monkey at a very young age.

Love this resurrection- I will say from my experience- once wiring has been "wet" under water, one can clean the terminal ends, but do not be surprised if this truck starts having random flickery problems with lights etc- wire is like a wick- the moisture gets under the insulation. Gradually resistance increases and you may for example have 13.5 at the starter (which I see you had to replace) but when you try and start it (put it under amperage draw) when hot you may only have 9 volts. Disclaimer "Your results may vary" :)

Lady, Ckean that battery tray and treat for rust, then paint it, then thin rubber underpayment. Your battery will last longer. Then go back to the dash cover, remove and treat rust and dab a color of paint on it if your choice. Pull your dash switch assembly, clean all connections with dielectric cleaner then grease with a dab of dielectric grease. Oh how I applaud you working on your Truck. I had one just like it. I taught my girls some work on it. I raised two of them, and they are well established in their lives. I am proud of them both, as your Dad should be of you.

Swings and roundabouts.😁 Me, I was subbed to Kevin's channel and saw Mook there first, then subscribed to this channel. Truck sounds good. New Battery, new starter ... Now check the belts and the Alternator and you got the charging systems check close to done. Do a voltage check on the 12 volt battery that its about 13.8 voltage while the engine is at 1800 rpms or so. I used Seafoam in the Gas tank/Fuel system, and some in the old oil before changing it. Run it 50 miles, then change the oil. Then put in 1 oz of seafoam for each quart capacity in the oil crankcase. This will quiet the old engine. I have 174,000 miles on my 02 Ranger XLT 4.0L and the engine purrs. I do my own maintenance and I keep an updated a Journal for each repair by date of repair. Your interior really looks good. I like those bench seat, its the best. Have fun. Thumbs up always.

Great Video. You bring back memories of when I was young in the 1980's and I had trucks pulled out of the weeds and put together with junk yard parts as well. My first was a 1973 Ford F100. I had a 72 GMC great truck and 71 International which other than the cab sitting on wood block due to rust it had a bitchen 345 v8 with a 4 speed manual and was an awesome running truck, if you didn't mind being call Jeb Clampit, never did get the rockin chair mounted though. I like you're real life videos and enjoy your work. Thank you.

Hey, the next time you’re sitting in your truck, take your right hand and place it on the top of the steering wheel. Pull back slightly with a small amount of pressure. Take your left hand and grasp the turn signal lever. Pull back towards you and see if this will allow the steering wheel to tilt. If that doesn’t work, push the lever forward. Tilt steering is a rare option for this truck.

I had a 1978 F100 with the Explorer package and got the same grief over the headlights. I got everything from "naw, that's a '79" to "sumbody changed them headlights". You know how it is: everybody knows something, and some people know everything. Now I've got a 1978 step-side with the Custom package. It has round headlights and nobody says anything. ;)

Back in early 90’s I bought a 1979…I believe it was an F150 with a 351 Cleveland and granny gear…she was parked in someone’s backyard and every year I drove by she looked lower to the ground and covered with oak leaves…one day I stopped by and asked if they were interested in selling it…the owner told me “ hell yeah give $500 bucks for it”….she wasn’t much to look at…she needed new tires, new radiator…new brakes new master cylinder..new clutch…new starter…new battery oil change..gas filters..new engine blocks seals…a new driver side spindle..and she was good to go after all that…she was the best truck I ever owned..I drove that old truck from coast to coast for many years..I worked for small construction company and that old truck pulled trailers with backhoes bobcats or fully loaded with lumber..she never asked for much but she burned oil though lol l…I gave this old beautiful truck to my cousin when he came out of jail for him to get started back in life and within three months he forgot to add oil to it and blew the engine..I was so mad at him that I didn’t speak to him for a while…I don’t know where she is now but I hope she’s ok with a new engine

78 custom had the round headlights and all other packages of 1978 had the square headlights

It actually was that they changed the headlights midway through the production year. I found out that fact trying to find a headlight bezel for an early 78. Ford did that sometimes. All ford models of the f series changed except the f600

Agree with Retrogamer. Square then became standard for all packages for 79. I had a 78 round headlights standard Bronco and wish I never sold it. Square were optional in other packages that year.

@@dpdmobile hate to depress you but ALL options packages in late 78 received the square headlights. My information on that came from a Ford Motor company employee. In early all were round. There are early trucks the have square headlights but they are converted because of accidents or an owner liked the square better. The gentleman who gave me this information worked for Rick Hunt Ford in Warrenton VA and an auto repair mechanic from 1949 till 1987. So I think he would know.

Steven Baker thanks for the clarification. 1978 Bronco brochure mentions square headlights for Ranger XLT Package with photo on the left and photo on the right shows the round headlight version with no mention under Custom remarks. Always figured round was early in the model year and just phased out due to “details and options subject to change” and to simplify production. I do miss my 78.

I just love the amount of room in the cab of those old trucks. I got another truck after my 78 was stolen (see comments in last video part 1), it was an 82 F-150 Ranger, last year they made the full size Ranger, yup they broke them after that year. It was my favorite truck ugly baby poo tan but damn what a truck. It never left me stranded, well as long as I paid attention to it anyway. I think it really was only once. I finally had to sell it back in 2012, long story, but I'm sad about it. If I ever have a chance to get another one I probably will.
