i keep saying it's not that bad. i have grown men in my family that will not attempt it. those old trucks are gravy to work on though. most people don't know how to figure stuff out off live data. i would encourage you to learn that stuff if you wanna do much on modern cars. it's funny, my wife, knows more about that stuff than many guys do. been married 11yrs now and not once have i sent a vehicle to the shop. i also tend to like mechanic specials, broken down not ran in years and the previous owner couldn't figure out, i'm cheap that way i guess. she's learned a lot, i can tell because she can follow my conversation talking about them. she'll even come out and help me usually. it's funny to think about.. i'm all for females knowing this stuff and honestly i can't blame ya. most guys are lost under the hood anymore, can't depend on them to get out there and get their hands dirty. can't be fixed with a game controller and they're out.. anyway rambling a bit but good for you. just look into that diagnostic stuff and it's not that complicated either.

A friend and I flew to Seattle from the UK back in 1983, bought a F250 with a camper body off an ex See Bee chap called Earl. We drove all the way down the West Coast, into Mexico, back up into the US, did all the Southern States across to Florida, up the East coast, sold the truck in Fort Bragg and took train to New York and flew home. Took nearly 12 months, fantastic experience. Truck never put a foot wrong, apart from the mpg! We didn't have an electronic second tank fuel tap, it was manual under the drivers seat and always seemed to run out at the most inconvenient time, like on a freeway in LA in rush hour. All the best Ian

I love that you guys are trying to get this one going again. Most people won't even try to save one that has been flooded. I had a '91 Skylark Custom that had been flooded. Bought it for $500, spent a year working on it, and drove it for ten years. I put a lot of money into it over the years, but I loved that car. A freaking Crank Sensor did it in. They only used that engine for one year in the Skylark Custom, and no one made it anymore, including AC. I even contacted them directly. I spent six months searching junk yards in three states for one, and never could find one. It killed me to say goodbye. I literally cried when they towed it off. I knew that car like the back of my hand.

Of course if you been drinking a lot of beer, or swallowing enough air to pull that off and you can't get it to come back up, then you fart every 5 minutes for the next 3 days. Which is funny too. LOL Kevin, is Mook a good farter too? LOL
@danw19554 жыл бұрын
I'm impressed! Mook actually knows how to pack bearings the 'old fashioned' way with grease in the hand, instead of one of those double disk bearing packers! Easy removal of old inside front wheel bearings for future reference: Take the outer bearing and washer off, and screw the retaining nut back on a ways, and give the rotor (or drum) a good yank and it will pop the old rear bearing and seal out of said rotor and leave them hanging on the axle stub. Don't do this if you have rear bearings and seals you actually want to save!😁😉 *PS:* The anti rattle clip *always* goes toward the rear of the caliper, so it doesn't get forced out by the forward pressure of the brake pad. That also serves as a squealer of sorts to audibly let you know when your pads are getting thin. That metal tab will contact the rotor when you step on the brakes and make a lot of racket without damaging the rotor.😁👍 14:35 *IMPORTANT!!* When turning rotors (especially on older vehicles, *ALWAYS* reinstall the bearing races to give the brake machine a place to accurately index to. Due to inconsistencies in machining on older cast iron rotors, the bearing surface is always guaranteed to be on the same axis as the wear face of the rotor. The shop that turned the rotors could have saved you from buying new ones if they did this.🙄
@PeterShaw-lb9lt Жыл бұрын
When I machined rotors I refused to machine them without the bearing cones you can't get them set up properly on the lathe the guy that machined them without bearing cones was a d/head he does not now what he is doing they should have known. Not to send them in for machining with out the cones any mechanic should know that if you are putting new bearings put the new cones in first if you change them after it can cause run out too

I never have needed new Rotors just had them turned once. So glad to see you are working on the brakes. My truck never stalls I mean NEVER! Just shows you how bad a flood can be on any truck. This truck had a 5th wheel tongue in the bed and hauled a 21 ft Bayliner boat by the Original first Owner. After my brother got it he hauled literally tons of firewood in the bed. Last year I hauled a ton of new flooring tile with this truck and it never compressed the overload springs and it has never died. It only has a 5.0 Liter Fuel injected V8 and it is one tough truck. 159,600 miles and still running strong.

Mook, I'm hoping that when you're done with all the mechanical issues, that you have the funds to, and do end up giving that old truck a good paint job! That old girl will be awesome with all the TLC you junkyard kids have put into her! Much luck with your project, and prayers for the funds to complete the restoration of your truck! You're both fairly awesome mechanics!
