GM didn't miss this. They intentionally make the user hold buttons for Legal Liability reasons. Imagine someone's kids fingers accidentally in the top mechanism as its opening or closing. GM would have to incorporate too many stop sensors like a garage door opener if it senses an object. GM made the right decision to do their convertibles this way. Liked your video but mentioning the cost in the video would be helpful. Thanks

Mrs. Claus got me this gadget for Christmas. I installed it last night, and it works great so far. A few things to mention. First, the module also allows you to customize the position of the window at the end of the up or down process. Second, you can operate the windows independent of whether you are raising or lowering the top. This is great for raising the window after you get out of the car. The doors are so wide, and long that it’s easier to get out of the car in a tight parking situation without the curved window in the way, then raise the window after you get out. Lastly. the hardest part of of detaching the plug is trying to save that rubbery “tape” from the connector. As others have mentioned, mine came off in pieces, and it isn’t worth the effort to save it. If I can find some big heat tubing to heat shrink around it that would be great, but it’s going to be electrical tape otherwise. This area does get water so something will need to be done. Thanks for the video! You’re right, the instructions are lacking so your video helped fill in the gaps.

Any idea where to buy more of that sticky stretchy foam tape? I tore mine up getting the plugs apart. My Chevy dealer parts guy has no idea where to get it. Very helpful video, it just guided me through installation on my HTC.

I think the point of holding the button is so you don't accidentally hit the button while in the drive through, low garage or low ceiling anywhere. It would really be unfortunate to damage your top accidentally.

You still need to hit two different buttons and hold the convertible button until the lights blink twice. Seems like very little risk of accidental opening.

@@WildBill1120 It's my understanding that using the remote --> you are correct. But if sitting in the car with the ignition in the on position, attempt to roll down the window on the left door arm rest - but hit the top (one click of one button) and you have an oops on your hands.

Just an FYI, if you hit the "lock" button twice on the remote, then press and hold the roof button on the remote, it will allow you to open the hood (service mode) without opening the roof.

Hey, not sure if this was mentioned in your instructions but thought I would bring it up. I installed this on my 2017 C7 GS and love it!!! Now maybe they've changed some of the functionality of how it works now with the C8 or Mods4Cars decided not to offer this feature anymore. But, at the end of my install there was a "warning" so to speak on how to program your module back to the car's original GM operation. It was recommended to do this before you had to have any service work done to your car and the service people were not advised of the new mod.

Hey guys, good content as always and MUCH appreciated. When I got my 2022 HTC, I was dissapointed you could only use the FOB to open the top, but you couldn't use it to close it. So I think being able to close it with the FOB is awesome and not having to use the button on the door. HOWEVER, as far as one touch with the button on the door, I think I personally would just like to hold it and control it like it is from the factory for potential safety issues if you had to stop it. I don't think GM necessarily missed this portion of it,,, its preference.

You can enable/disable every feature as you like it. For example turn off one touch but turn on the remote operation.

So you need to halt the top in a semi- up/down position to install the switch, but after the install can you stop the top in the mid-position to remove the just installed module, or do maintenance like greasing the gears, if that is necessary? I really like the idea, but i might be like if you had a window that was only either all the way up or down, with no mid-point. I'm assuming that a touch of the button will halt the process, but does it?

That is cool. Seems like the up down button is backwards. Pull button up and back, pulls top off. Push down and forward brings top back over closed. However I can see the logic if you compare it to a window. Open window means open top. Close window mean closed top.

There are several people who have installed this device on the c8 Corvette forum and the only thing missing from the firmware is the tonneau cover open only for service and engine access but worry not we have informed mod4cars and they are working on a new firmware download to include this missing feature

Yep GM made it that way for safety reasons. It’s so in case of an emergency like a kid or object is in the way you the operator still has the ability to quickly release the button.

From the factory, without this module, pushing lock and then press and hold open (with the top already up) will open only the rear cover, for service. I see this setup uses unlock + top button to open, and then lock + top button to close the top back. But does this allow you to still use lock + top button to open the rear cover only in service mode?

Is there any way to stop the top mid travel? If not, there is a safety issue. Someone, probably a kid, could get caught in it. Car companies changed the window switches several years ago because a few kids playing in cars and stood on the armrest then stepped on the window switch. The window went up trapping them and killing them. Now if they stand on the switch, the window will go down. You could also have some major damage if something gets in the way of the top or the cover.

I don't know how Mark did it? I have tried and tried and I have been unable to get it unplugged in order to install the module. I have been practicing on the wiring harness like the instruction says. I have pushed that black tab and i can unplug the wiring harness. But when I try it on the plug on the car, I have been unable to get the plug out. I am at my wits end!
