Just sold my c7 zo6/zo7. Plan to get c8 zo6/zo7. The c8z with the zo7 looks much more like a supercar alone. I think the eray would be fun to launch on the street however.

We all know the C8 Z06 is faster than the Porsche GT3 RS; thus, considering the lap time of GT3 RS on Nurburgring Z06 should not fall far from this time. So this claim of 5th gear is nonsense.

Some dude from auto sport magazine does a lap at the Nurb for the first time in a Z06 and you tube is breaking? Sorry, but I am shorting this message.

The Z06's shortcomings are by design. It shouldn't show up the ZR1 - which I'm sure will be in the sub 6 minute range.

Comment to the Sport Auto Ring time, one thing is the 5th gear but did they adjust the alignment to full track and did they lower the cup 2 tires down to 24 psi for track use, on the pillar on zo7 cars it calls for 35 psi tire pressure, but that is only for street use and especially for driving in the rain.

But Rick Conti also went on to say that, no, there are no plans for a 7-speed manual transmission for any C8. That information came from inside Corvette. Why would you not complete that info???

I just can't consider purchasing a Corvette that doesn't have a manual tranny.

This is a HUGE deal because of what you just said and Porsche GT3 being its competition. The incredible blunder of making a race car for the street with a 5th gear so long that top speeds are virtually IMPOSSIBLE at the Nurburgring is ABSURD. Not only did the engineers have the data but they have been to the ring so much that they should have known. This is also a problem that CANNOT BE FIXED IN THE AFTERMARKET AS OF YET, and technically sounds way too expensive to even try to fix. This is also a flaw that should have been noticed at this point by someone. Porsche fans said the exact same thing about the 718, but not to this degree. This knocks the Z06 down a peg on the supercar list because you reasonably CANNOT REACH TOP SPEED ON THIS CAR ANYWHERE OTHER THAN A TEST TRACK.

I call bs in lap time. Like Misha said, easy sub 7. GM hasnt released an official time & the Z06 has DESTROYED all lap times in the USA! Its on top of almost every leaderboard! Throttle House & others prove that.

So there was no improvement over the C7 Z06 time? The C7 ZR1 had a time of 7:04. You now are paying double the amount for C8 Z06 and it only has better traction? Yeah, I'm keeping my C7 and hopefully the C9's will be improved with out being over priced! It seems the best option is a base C8 and hopefully it won't have the transmission issues its been having..

Failure? Tisk tisk tisk Mike. This unofficial not “official” time was done by a German company called Sport Auto NOT GM. Not sure why you thought GM posted these times but clearly that is not the case. The C8 Z06 lap in question is on Sport Auto KZbin page. Right off the bat I can tell that the driver isn’t familiar enough with the Z06 because he is driving in automatic mode and not manual mode. Two…he has the air conditioner on. Three…they never removed the front license plate bracket for better air flow when tracking. There are so many unknowns like how familiar is the driver with the car and driver experience, does the car have track alignment, gas level, tire age, etc. There are just too many unknowns for people to jump to conclusions with a video that was put out by Sport Auto. DoesSport Auto video tell a story…Yes. Does it tell THE complete story…

A disappointing time for sure. I was expecting around 6:52 + or -. Who drove the car? The other thing to consider is the amount of aerodynamic drag at the higher speeds with the Z07 package. That, in addition to the possibly tall 5th gear would slow it down in the straights. Personally, I think the Z06/ZR1/Zora should have active aero.

For the price nothing compares. Who is able to go to a place to go the max speed. Best bang for the buck and you can get it fixed anywhere in the US.

My understanding is that it wasn’t a real time by gm but a time by a KZbin channel huge difference especially with someone not used to car behind the wheel and who knows what for conditions. To me this time holds no wight at all!

BTW - that Sport Auto driver does not do what he needs to to ring the best out of the car. Watch Jörg Bergmeister in his GT3RS run. Much more on the edge with 155 less HP!

Easy solution: GM offer an optional gear set or provide the Z07 with the shorter gear set. OR - get a custom one made.

99.9% of all C8 Z06 owners will never be in a position that requires those times, that said, it will be the same for the C8 ZR1. It’s all about bragging rights and it’s silly.

Really hard decision...and may I congratulate Chevy for making such a hard decision by having such amazing choices? I want the Z for the exotic sound and my guess is likely a better longer term resale value. I want the Z for the better overall performance at the occasional track day (but fairly unlikely for me). The stock wheels are so much better on the Z as well. I want the eray for the insane torque, better overall street/highway driving speed/comfort, and carbon ceramic brakes coming STANDARD. Lastly, I like the pricing on the eray better -- currently in the GM configurator, the eray is $20k less. Is the eray a better street car? My gut says yes. WIth that said, is the Z a more exciting and visceral overall experience? My gut says yes. Also, will the Z hold it's value better in the long run? Will that $20k in savings get eaten up with higher depreciation on the eray? My gut also tells me yes...and that the Z will be the more sought after car over the years, with that NA flat plane crank masterpiece. TOUGH DECISION!

They pulled out all the stops in comparison to a C7 Z06/7 and raised the price significantly on the C8 Z06/7 yet it’s not much quicker. They said they were putting the Sports Car world on notice yet they’re not even close to the GT3 (non RS) time. Very disappointing.

I’m just wondering if they tanked the Z06 time to make the ZR1 time look better in comparison. Maybe the ZR1 has the same 5th gear issue? Very odd to me too. Having said that, my Z06 is insanely fast, sounds amazing and I’m very happy with it … an instant classic in my opinion.
