I love all of the comments from people who have clearly never worked with asphalt or cold patch. Do you people not realize that this video was made for home owners who most likely do not have access to tampers or hot mix or asphalt saws? Working for my city’s street division for the past 7 years I can tell you cold patch will hold up in a scenario like this for months years possibly if it is done right it even will hold up on high traffic roadways if compacted enough. Do any of you even realize how expensive hot patch is and that you can only buy it by 1/4 ton increments? This saved the home owner money and was a great fix. Rather then calling a paving company and spending an arm and a leg for work that didnt need to be done they did it themselves. Enough from you arm chair quarterbacks who have never used the stuff more then twice in your life.

Are you new to youtube? Haven't you figured out how youtube works, yet? - Post a video - Wait for all the trolls to arrive and give their criticisms (not recommendations/solutions, nor their own videos showing their so-called successful method). Then they leave behind derogatory comments towards someone trying to help others out... then they move-on. Although when "you" leave comments recognizing them, you only feed right into their hands. If you ignore them they have nothing to feed off, and leave..... LOL

Bump N Run Lol. So, all of that being true, I’ve decided the goal to strive for in the ideal YT comment is-something sarcastic that exposes stupidity or ignorance of the dumb commenter. Didn't know you could repair a pothole over top of broken asphalt. Thought you had to break it up completely, clean it out, cut clean edges with a concrete saw, add gravel before pouring the asphalt in and tamping. This is much easier. You learn something new everyday. Going to try it - hope it works... and lasts. Thanks for this.

@@davidr6865as a tradesman; it ain’t just them. It’s industry/ economic costs. It’s not personal or even likable and it doesn’t even mean we make more money necessarily. It’s business unfortunately. Nothing is cheap anymore. Thank you for letting me know that it takes three weeks for the repair to be ready to be resurfaced. I had someone repair and refinish my small driveway. He did not repair any cracks and the asphalt repair looks like patchwork. He did not refinish it at all. It looks like a child did it. I am going to repair the cracks and I will use crack filler on the asphalt repair myself, and I will refinish the entire driveway with another coat. Weeds are already coming through the driveway cracks after two weeks. I paid $1000 for a $300 job. It took me hours to figure out how and when to refinish a driveway after asphalt driveway repair. Once I do all that and I fill in the cracks, then maybe it will look like a $1000 job.

So, potholes happen due to moisture and temperature changes The moisture with freeze and thaw and move closer to the surface each time causing expansion and compression weakining the bond between bitumen and stone causing cracks in the pavement. Best thing to do with this stuff instead of tamping is follow his steps but dry the hole with a propane torch (make sure the surface is around 30 degrees celsius) fill the hole for every foot wide you want about 2 inches vertical clearance and smack it with a flat shovel. Over time, it will sink. But reapply and you'll never really have to worry about pot holes too much.

Sakrete and Quikrete both make highly rated products and you can pick them up at a home center. Check out more home improvement tips in our e-books www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B2KW1FQ9?notRedirectToSDP=1&.

Patching like that won't last very long. You are supposed to have a clean vertical edge otherwise the cold patch will pus out of the hole and the edges are too thin to cure into anything worthwhile.

Hi there thank you for the video. I have a big question here. What if my drive way has a mini slope to it? Would the method still be the same as yours generally speaking? Appreciate it thank you.
@FIXITHomeImprovementChannel7 жыл бұрын
Hi, if you are filling a pothole just get it flush with the slope of the driveway.

Yeah, my, "driveway," has a terrible pothole right next to the stop sign and the city doesn't do shit about it

How would you compare this to Plistix? I have some cracks that need to be filled and wondering which is better.

I bought a house that has a couple areas on the driveway that are now just red clay with gravel on top. Not sure how to fix those areas ???

Mark out a square with dimensions. Cut the area with a pavement saw. Fill 6 inches below the pavement surface with crushed stone. Tamp the crushed stone with a powered compactor. Add 3/4 inches polymerized sand to the crushed stone using pipes as guides and tamp again with a powered compactor. Fill the remaining surface with asphalt and compact with a weighted drum. Or just do like the man in the video. All the tools can be rented at your local Home Depot or Battlefield equipment rental. Tools needed: - Measuring tape - Spray Paint or Paint Marker - Wheel Barrow - Shovel - Pick Ax or Hoe - Pavement Saw - Vibratory Compactor - Drum Roller - Hand tamper - 3/4" PVC, metal, or other kind of pipe (2 pieces -Length roughly dimensions of patch) - Board or straight edge to scree the sand between the pipes

Best way to do it is get a bucket of black roof tar get a small 2 inch roller roll the edges with that then put your asphalt patch in rake it out smooth then sand it down the compact it really good then seal cost it and it was last for a very long time trust me

Thanks for the video, very instructive. But I have a question to ask. My driveway got severely damaged due some gas leaks from my car, and its been a really good while. now you can see the gas, the oily surface. What do you recommend that I should do to repair that damaged area? and its pretty big, its a damage about 3ft by 4ft give or take. Im renting and I know that my landlord will pissed, so I would like to try to repair it.. So have any good and low costing suggestions?

Degease the area and pressure wash it. Then make sure area is dry. Get you a 5 gallon bucket of drive way sealer or any size bucket depending on your driveway. You will need to seal the entire driveway so that it is not visible. You can get a push broom and spread it on the driveway or they sell mops to do the job.

Get a torch it will reheat the asphalt and add a little cold mix it in the old and tamp it

Better to cut round with a cut off saw and dig out the old tarmac then compact in layers then seal
@miso1995srb3 жыл бұрын
he said that in the video

@@miso1995srb but he didn't cut round it first to get a nice neat edge. Will just come out over time.

That should all be busted out down to the gravel with 90 degree edges around the circle perimeter. Should also get tamped down in layers. 2-3 layers to fill the patch.

Sounds like you could have roots under the asphalt if it's being pushed up if so then only way to fix would be to tear out the bad section tear up the roots and repave
