Thanks so much. My daughters 2003 Honda CR-V was stalling at idle. 2 mechanics looked at it and scratched their heads. One said it wasn’t throwing any codes so there was nothing he could do. How hard it is to find a mechanic that really knows their craft anymore! The other replaced the fuel pump sweating that was the issue. The idle air control valve ended up being the problem and this video was awesome for showing me what I would need to deal with and saved me a lot of trial and error. Thanks to the video creator, you gave me what I needed to fix my car after 2 auto shops gave up!

We had the same problem with a 98 Accord V6. IACV was badly clogged up and didn’t work after attempts at cleaning. Bought after market valve and found that it idled high but had to go with it as away from home. Once back the idle returned to normal and has been working ok since then. Thanks for your excellent video that was the best!!

You are a champion. My wife’s car just had this very issue, or it would idle so low it would cut out. I just followed your instructions and sure enough that spindle on the electric motor was sticking. Sure I had to go and buy the t-20 piece to unscrew those screws halfway through the job, but I was pretty happy when I put it all back together and the car runs perfectly. To anyone else about to take this on, don’t do what I did, watch the whole video first and make sure you have all the tools you need. I’m about to make a third trip and buy some coolant. 👊🏽

Heres a list of things Ive done to my 2004CRV that was burning a quart of oil a week, running a bit harshly and not idling perfectly.. it had 310,000km on it. I got it running alot better and its not burning oil anymore: -sea foam GDI intake cleaner, -oil cleaner additive before oil change -used “high milage” oil -put in the most expensive oil filter -lucas oil treatment for sealing the engine -gumout fuel line cleaner additive to gasoline -new spark plugs -new battery -cleaned IACV valve -cleaned the mass airflow sensor with mass airflow sensor cleaner. All of these repairs were relatively cheap and it was very satisfying to see how doing simple things can make a drastic change in the cars performance.

AFTER THE PROCEDURE: You will have a hunting idle problem (Consistently reving up and down in a cyclical pattern) because you let air into the coolant line right next to the IACV. Idle relearn will not fix this. Open the radiator cap, when the car is off and cold. Squeeze the radiator tube a bunch of times to burp any air bubbles out. (Who cares if you spill some out of the radiator) After that, the hunting idle should be fixed, but you’ll still have minor idle issues. Thats when you do the idle relearn process. For a noob like myself, I feel like it would have been nice to add this into the tutorial.. took me a day to figure out what was going on, I didnt realize coolant played that important of a roll.

Great video. My car failed smog check yesterday with Amazon's china knockoff Idle air control valve for my 2003 Honda accord. Luckily I kept my OEM IACV. Followed your method and restored the function of my old OEM IACV. I didn't have a five star screw driver so I used my locking plier like a wrench to unscrew the electrical portion of IACV from the mechanical portion. In fact, I de-threaded one of the original screw that held my IACV onto the throttle body as well but I am still using the same the screw by using the same locking plier technique. (Honda dealers didn't have any screw available until next week... maybe most people de-threaded those screws because they didn't use your impact driver- hammer technique.) . Again thanks, you saved me a ton of money and time since I don't have to special order new OEM IACV now.

Your video and some of the comments saved me some grief. Did a starter replacement and then got the surge. Checked all over for vacuum leaks. Pulled some codes but didnt read data Pulled off idle valve, slightly stuck from carbon but i think whats happening is when the intake and throttle body are removed eg when doing a starter replacement that the tinyest but of crud grit or whatever causes the valve which is probably already carbonuzed to stick, anything entering the throttle body just drops right in to the idle valve. It took vice grips to get one of the phillips ana JIS screws loose, the torks i cut a slot with a die grinder and a sharp screwdriver broke those. Thanks honda man..

Idle relearn. Disconnect battery and ground negative with positive terminals for 10 minutes. Reconnect battery. Turn ignition to key on engine off for 2 seconds, then start car. Let idle for 10 minutes. Idle should drop down below 1000 rpm, after a few minutes. When that is complete the idle relearn is complete and your good to go. If the idle does not drop down below 1000 rpms, then you need to reset the computer using a scan tool.

I pulled one from a junkyard and carefully cleaned it, to not remove that sealant. I installed it yesterday and my car is idling at 700! It’s never been that low, it was always at 1000 on idle. My 2002 CRV has an issue which I believe is because of the IACV. When in Park or neutral, or switch from drive to neutral, or park or whatever gear. The revs drops down really low, the car shudders a bit and then they bounce back to the normal idle level. This sometimes happens a good few times before stabilising. Is this likely to be the IACV?

@@abbprrodriguez744 Great, thanks. Just need to get hold of one of those 5 point Torx T20 bits to get the motor off the main IACV component and then I can do it.

Its a good chance its a iac valve, wouldn't hurt to clean it, yes u need the 5 point torx, good luck with your car!

This is an older model of my car, do you happen to know if the IACV is removable from the throttle body on a 2010 CRV?

Having this issue with my 04 CR-V, gonna try this out and I'll reply how it goes

Ok sounds good ya let me know! Works most of the time for me, the iac valve is usually stuck with corrosion

@@FixItPhillip I've partially stripped one of the two Phillips screws for the IAC valve cover D:

@@kgkisten7632did you get it out? try to use a impact driver like the one in the video instead of a regular screwdriver.
@kgkisten76324 жыл бұрын
@@FixItPhillip It started to rain so I rested the throttle body on my engine block and closed the hood to keep everything dry. I'll head out and get an impact screwdriver while I wait for the rain to stop!
@kgkisten76324 жыл бұрын
@@FixItPhillip So I tried the impact screwdriver and stripped the top screw a good amount, then the driver bit ended up breaking when I tried the other screw. Those screws are tough for me haha. I'm thinking of ordering a new throttle body since I already have it out.

Mine had similar issue but not exactly. I use a 2004 crv, mostly on highway, it will stop accelerating even with my leg on the gas pedal and the idle keep on going down and the car finally stop, but the engine is still running, after a while the car will move again. It happens from time to time. Can this fix solve same issue? Your response is highly useful. Thanks
@FixItPhillip3 жыл бұрын
No that sounds like a different issue, possible clogged catalytic convertor? No check engine light on or overheating?

What did you clean the corrosion off the control valve with?

What does it mean if I shifted into drive/reverse and it goes from 800-1600 RPM and kinda shakes back and forth? Also, it’s in freezing temperatures in Minneapolis.

8:35 Why? It can only go on one way to fit on the TB.

Sometimes the mounting holes are slotted and be slightly turned one way or the other
