I made this DIY Nightstand with a hidden drawer to try my hand at a real secret compartment in furniture. This could be a cool concealment drawer and it’s hidden behind an epoxy inlay on the front of the nightstand. Figuring out how to make the secret lock was the hardest part, but it worked out and the spring loaded secret drawer is amazing!

Amazing build!! One thing I noticed... when attaching the rails to the frame, you're not using the tabs. After install drawers for years, I recently saw someone's YT video about why the tabs are there. You bend them out slightly, then use the screw holes on the end of the tabs only. It gives the rail the ability to handle up to 1/16" extra gap so you get a perfectly smooth sliding drawer. It blew my mind. There was an immediate 1000% improvement in drawer slide installations.

Super friendly bit of advice here, I would get Titebond 3 (Titebond III) for glue ups like this one. It's the Waterproof version of regular yellow glue but more importantly it has a way longer work time (about 2-3x as long dependingon climate) so you can fiddle with getting a bunch of pieces all lined up without the glue setting up before everything is just right.

Beautiful project and well made. I have a quibble though. If it's a nightstand, it can't go to the left of the bed because the bed will be in the way. You would also need a fair amount of room on the right side of the bed to the wall for it to open.

My Grandpa was a carpenter and he would build hidden compartments into his builds. I know of one large L shaped thing that has a fake bottom in one of the drawers and a small triangle detail in the corner of the piece pulls up to reveal a little cubby. My Grandma actually took my Dad around the house to show him all the secret compartments so nothing will accidentally be left when she dies.

This was an amazing video. The night stand looks great and you did a great job with the color contrasting. I've seen hide away drawers and picture frames but I think you should really go 'out of the box' with a hide away cutting board and a spot for a knife. Like a knife block and cutting board all in one. You could even go all out and install a UV light for sanitizing them.

Pro tip for better releasing and pressing down the wooden button. Instead of making it 90 degree squared to the place where it contact the resin, add an slight angle to it. Like 1 degree extra would probably do it. So instead of 90°, it would be 91°. This way it would release right away from the resin as the contact surface area will just disappear. And also will push smoothly. Check some injection mould design, and you will see better what I mean.

Could try adding more/larger/shallower wooden spacers in the gaps to help compensate for the change in color.

Anime Geeks If his room was thoroughly searched, the searcher would probably look under things such as drawers, and therefore would see the hole in the bottom. He could then stick something the size of the ink part of a pen in and find the note. I just thought of that watching this video, don’t know why it didn’t occur to me sooner.

I love how a youtube carpenter will say "it was fragile so i finished it by hand" and cut to a shot of them literally using an electric sander. Just because a tool is hand held doesn't make it a hand tool.
