Great video. I did the classic last year and I definitely had to much stuff with me. Now I’m planning doing the whole kings trail. Would be fun to see a video about planning such a long trip!

Very interesting! I'm walking the coast2coast Sweden this year (10 day hike) and I have about the same stuff as you (just other brands) and I have a hard time to fit everything in my Mariposa... I doubt I'll fit my food in there - would you like to you show how to back the Mariposa with the gear you have in this video? *have to ask, the worst thing that could happen is that you'll say no* :-) Great video!

Great video! I am planning a nobo thru hike of the Kungsleden this summer, but since I've never been that far north I am wondering about what gear to take, namely in terms of clothing. I like to hike in lightweight running shorts, but with all the mosquitos there I don't know if it's a clever idea, so I will probably bring a pair of zipoff pants, but whats your take on hiking in shorts up there? I really like my running shorts. I plan to hike in my Patagonia capilene thermal weight longsleeve baselayer, with an REI sahara shirt over, don't think any mosquitos will bite through that.. Also about rain gear, I brought the ULA rain skirt from your shop but have not had a chance to test it. I really hate hiking in rain pants, but am unsure if the skirt will suffice in really bad conditions, and if it would be the safest to suck it up and get sweaty legs in a pair of rain pants. Whats your thoughts on this?

I think if your going up to the kingstrail during the summer months the ULA Rain skirt will be just fine compared with a good rain jacket. I prefer the Kamleika jacket by OMM. Shorts are ok as long is it's warm, but as you say, mosquitos can be a bitch. However, my experience with kingstrail in the summer is such that if the sun is out and there is a little wind, mosquitos won't be a problem until you setup camp in the evening, in which case you can have a light pair of wind pants to protect your legs. I'm personally moving away from zip off pants as they are still hot as hell on my crotch and it would be easier to just have a light pair of shorts and just change into when it's warm enough. I really like the Lundhags Makke pants for hiking as they have a lot of ventilation and great bug protection.

Thanks for your video! I'm trying to find a light weight alternative to my regular boots, and currently looking for shoes. What shoes are you currently using? Or do you have a good alternative? Since the ones you're using here can't be found in Sweden.

And the 1 million dollar question is wich trekkingpoles do you use? Great gotrue. I'm walking the F C in Denmark in june and found it helpfull. I can even go lighter because it's warmer in DK and i don't need all that warm clothes 😊

I use different poles really.. The Black diamond carbon distance and more recently the Fizan adventure compact. Yes.. denmark is a different type of walk altogether - there I think a lighter sleeping back and less warm clothing is a great way to cut weight.. probably don't need something like the xTherm sleeping pad either.. I think it's perfectly plausible to attain maximum warmth and comfort for that trip at around 4-5 kilos

I am planning to take part in this year’s Classic in Sweden having done the Hong Kong. Your video is helpful. Did you mention there are mosquitoes there ? I have a HMG flat tarp. Do you reckon it is feasible for this trek ? Thanks
@Backpackinglightse
@Backpackinglightse 5 жыл бұрын
Definitely a lot of mosquitos.. If you are experienced in using the flat tarp in alpine conditions than it's possible. Though, I would probably bring something a little quicker and easier to setup as well as full bug protection. Consider a Six moon lunar solo or even a HMG ultamid.

BTW on the Fjallraven classic do you need a tent with a bath-tub inner or can you forgo the inner and just take the outer fly? Is the ground water logged or dry?
@Backpackinglightse
@Backpackinglightse 5 жыл бұрын
Most years it's pretty dry honestly.. I dont use a bathtub inner. Only early spring and late fall.. but there are s lot of bugs. The inner does of course add an extra layer of comfort that might be worth bringing

I have heard that trekkingpole tent might fall down on you when you pitch above treeline. It might be the pitch, have your tent fallen over you above treeline? How do you deal with it?
@Backpackinglightse
@Backpackinglightse 6 жыл бұрын
Hi, no I've never had the problem.. In fact tents like the Tarptent Stratospire, MLD Trailstar and HMG Ultamid 2/4 are ar superior to just about any tent in wind shedding that I've ever experienced. Though I would make the argument that any tent that is tent peg intensive is going to fall risk to high winds and shit weather. A good example is the Zpacks duplex that requires something like 6-8 pegs just to get standing and another 4 to make stable in wind.. I find the duplex to be less than optimal for above treeline when the weather and wind turn for the worse. I would even say this about the High route FL that also requires 6 stakes just to setup.. The stratospire requires 4, the Enan requires 2. With that said, again I've never had the problem

Sounds good, How do you deal with mosquitos up there if you don't have netting in the tent? Just reppellent and clothing ?
@Backpackinglightse
@Backpackinglightse 6 жыл бұрын
no, I usually have innertent and I bring a headnet with me as well. All the tents I suggest in the video have innertents.
