The Re-Kanken is a special edition Kanken backpack. It's made out of recycled polyester from plastic bottles. The fabric is colored using an advanced water-saving technique called Spindye, which results in the fabric having better color fastness compared to the Vinylon F used in the Kanken Classic backpack.

I watched a few Re-Kanken reviews and noticed that too, I went to Fjällräven website and they’re made entirely from polyester recycled from plastic bottles...so I guess that explains the pilling.

I really like the Fjallraven Rekanken backpacks and the sunflower colour is great. I have my backpack in the navy colour. I have seen quite a few videos about these backpacks and also about how to tell if it is a fake one. It is said that only the original one has the little Swedish flag in the inside. Yours does not seem to have it or at least I could not see it. My Rekanken has the little Swedish flag inside. There seem to be a zillion fake Fjallraven backpacks around, which is a shame because the brand is really great. Love the review of your backpack!

Yes, it's water-resistant. I'd use a damp towel to spot clean.

Re-Kanken in my opinion is not even water resistant. A little splash of water did not 'bead' on the surface, 95% soaked straight into the fabric. A heavier spray equivalent to a light/ medium rain soaked through to the inside. This is very disappointing as the bag is brand new and I want it for use in an area where we get sudden heavy showers. What product can I use to make this water resistant, if not waterproof.

Jay May You can buy the wax from Fjallraven to wax your bag (or anything else) to make it waterproof.

There aren't really any videos on how to tell a real rekanken apart from a fake, do the zippers on the authentic also have the YKK logo on the side, or is it different with this version of the bag? I just got this bag in the pink color off amazon for about $60 and I'm having doubts. Thank you in advance!

Will this one last as long as the original? The material seems a bit flimsy in comparison to the classic vinyl / polypropylene made backpack. I’m not if it will hold up as well.

What is the difference in colour between this re-kanken (sunflower yellow) and the normal kanken (warm yellow)? Is it more bright? Or dark? Can't really tell the difference when seeing pictures of both.

We haven’t seen the warm yellow in person but based on pictures the sunflower is a brighter and lighter yellow.

Amita Joneja Probably a classic aluminium/aluminum zipper, but I’ll see If there’s any info about that. Edit: i think they’re made from recyclable material just like the bottle fabric.

flying potato You can use a wet cloth and wipe the stains off or you can use a tooth brush. The backpack is made of recycled plastic and polyester, so the colours won't wear off.

jorgeshss Okay, poorly constructed comment. Sorry! Of course you can put laptops into these backpacks. The back pocket is for the padded seat, but like the previous commenter, i Don’t see why you can’t put a laptop in the bag. They literally made versions that are sized for laptops, but If a laptop fits into any of these, you can put it in there.
