Fun video! It was so satisfying watching Tonto go over the terrain! I’ve not done Charleau Gap as so many people tell me “it will damage something!” So I’m chicken!

That was the squeaky noise my 75 FJ40 made. Kinda funny hearing that, since I haven't heard that exact noise in 20 years. Double sided glue down pad and commercial glue down carpet for the roof. Do it!

I love watching your adventures, the tonto stories remind me why I've been married to a baby shit brown 78 fj 40 for 20yrs. You guys should Bring Tonto up to Idaho In the Spring we have a few trails here along the Salmon River..This video made me home sick for those trails around Mt. Lemon, I worked flew out of Pinal Airpark for years and understand how nice it is down there in December.."Scouts Out" ...Keep the greasey side down..

Tonto is so beautiful! When I saw you guys at the LC museum a couple years ago I think I teared up a bit, remembering my 1967 FJ. Saw you guys on Oracle the other day. You can’t hide. That little LC really stands out. Take care you two!

One of the few things that survived the fire that took out my house and shop, is my 1970 CA soft top FJ40 I learned to drive in with my Grandfather. A bummer was the hard top my grandfather had acquired burned. It has a 3 on a tree, th 1f motor. I put a DUI electronic igintion and a 38cfm webber carb. It was nice. The I put a 350 ram jet engine in it, air lockers power steering, nice skid plates and sliders, all while the new Rubicon type Jeeps started coming and then I realized whoops should've left it less touched. Then I remembered its mine and no one else gets her, is a lifetime commitment with my FJ40.

I was going to say, who needs long travel when 3 wheels will take you the same place 4. I had a stock Suzuki Samurai for awhile and that thing would take you places it had no business going.

You not fancy a cheap RV to live in, hold bikes, tow Tonto - and keep Tonto light for day/few day adventures away from base? Only as that is how I work with my big truck and little Jimny :) Kev
@SaltySunriseSailing2 жыл бұрын
That would be a great setup for sure, just not sure how long we will be in the states.
@KevIsOffGrid2 жыл бұрын
@Dirt Sunrise Adventures hence the cheap :) I'm just preparing for most of 23 you not travelling, fixing house, saving up, maybe just a month or 2 away "buzzing" round Asia before back to US and saving for new overland vehicle. But if you you'll be flying to South Africa and buying something there next Easter and carrying on then maybe not worrh it.

Wow, Ive been following you guys since the pan am highway! Thank you so much for such killer content. I freaking love Tonto! Right now Im still rocking my 2010 Subaru Forester. Gonna attempt the pan am in her. Im always trying to figure out whats next, I know I want 4x4 and bigger. That FJ40 looks super legit. Its just me, so I could fit so much in there. Sorry if I missed it, but whats your mpgs like, loaded up?
@SaltySunriseSailing2 жыл бұрын
That's cool. The Subaru would be a fun PanAm car. Fuel was by far and away our biggest travel cost. The FJ40 prob gets 10-16 depending on how we drive and whether we're on dirt or tarmac.
@ancientoverland53872 жыл бұрын
@@SaltySunriseSailing The only thing keeping me from getting something bigger is the mpgs! After 8k miles all around the SWUS, fully loaded, I averaged 23.1mpgs, and a whole lot of that was dirt/gravel! You guys are awesome, thanks so much for all the inspiration!
@SaltySunriseSailing2 жыл бұрын
@@ancientoverland5387 If you get your hands on a 1HZ or 1HDT engined Toyota diesel you'll get similar mileage. Even with our Maltec loaded down with 62 Gallons of diesel we'd get 20-24MPG giving a ridiculous range. Still, if you know your vehicle and it's quirks and how to fix it, why not stick with it. Enjoy!
