Not sold on the latch mechanism. I would use the latch in the opposite direction of the carrier swing, otherwise you risk the whole thing drooping under load (getting in a ditch for instance) and the carrier getting unlatched.

Mark, In all it was about $250-300 in materials. The majority was the spindle

Do the cops harass you over the license plate being obstructed by the tire?

Yes, but I was able to find a license plate bracket from an overseas model that moved it to the right of the tire carrier
