This has been a really useful video for me: thanks! I'm about to get a (sport)tourer and only ever rode an ST-1100 in that category (which I liked a lot btw). And these two bikes are top of my list at the moment, but it sounds like the Honda is the way to go for me. Test ride soon 😎

I own a 2014 FJR (Gen3) which has electronic cruise control and 2 drive modes: Sport and Touring. I just rode out to Oregon and back from Minnesota and it was fantastic! It has a 6.3 gallon gas tank and I averaged 45 mpg fully loaded with camping gear. I've never ridden an ST but would like to someday. Thanks for a good comparison video!

I'm looking at getting one of the two bikes for my next bike, and being a little older guy I think the Honda makes more sense for me. Thanks for the honest review.

I’ve owned 1 ST1300 and 2 FJR1300s. FJR is lighter more sporty and better overall. But man that Honda engine is butter smooth

Thanks for your Videos, I have before 3 VFRs all different generations, a 2013 Super Tenere which I love, but now I have a 2018 FJR, all Good different Bikes, I think now the FJR is my bike to keep.

Would pick the FJR even though I like the ST too. :) Thanks for sharing your opinion. Cheers.

Think of the bike market like yoga pants… it doesn’t lie. The FJR attracts buyers - the ST didn’t.

Back in maybe 2007, after a four hour ride on my Buell S3 to my job in Minnesota, I test-rode an ST1300; so smoooth, and felt pretty light and manoeuvrable… should have traded my Buell in right then, but I was stupid.

I have 2 bikes an '01 CBRXX Blackbird. and an '06 ST. The ST is a fantastic motorcycle I enjoy riding it but the experience isn't particularly engaging from a sensory perspective. I wanted a capable sport tourer that could do ridiculous amount of miles in one sitting and the ST fills the bill. The bird is there for the sensory overload experience

Been riding nothing but Birds since the 90s. Everyone has had a set of Corbin beetle bags. Bought a Concours and sold it within a month. Not a fan of big bikes on small diameter front tires

ST owner here and I love the bike but I've never ridden an FJR. It does strike me as a more exciting bike.

I see some comments regarding snatchy throttle. I've had a '12 FJR and now have a '19 FJR. Both had perfect fueling with no snatchiness whatsoever. I think the early ones may have had this issue but, at least by 2012 Yamaha had it sorted. I also have a gen II Supertenere, that had a snatchy throttle. That one required a flash to rectify.
@VolodymyrKravtsov-uq5mq6 ай бұрын
I have both. I not agree with your assessment about throttle and clutch. I think you have to do maintenance or adjustments (as it is all adjustable). Or maybe its your throttle technic. Also, I never understood your evaluation of fully adjustable suspension. It does not matter what the factory settings are as long as you can adjust it as you please. If you want you can make FJR butter smooth in seconds.
@chadsacrey62746 ай бұрын
Have to agree. Never drive a St but owned the FJR and it was super smooth is all ranges. Clutch was fantastic. The bike almost felt to smooth to me. Lots of power and def the better looking bike. The st is probably a better tourer.

Did you ever do anything with the zero? I saw the first video a few minutes ago and was really excited to see the rest of the series but it doesn't seem like there is one

no gave up on it. But i did sell it to a guy who got it running. I might have to contact him. He installed ford cmax cells. Apparently the bike only had 700 miles!

@@8tavian999 Sorry I misunderstood you. While some get cranky in their feelings about darksiding, I judge no one. Although it’s not for me (yet), we owe a debt to riders who try something new or different & share their experience. I once owned a 2008 Concours14 that I bought new from the dealer. Had a v-twin cruiser & rode everything I could at Daytona Beach bike week. A friend had an FJR. The only thing I never rode was a Honda ST1300 & I still want to ride one badly. I bought the Connie because it was smooth & had 6 gears. It was a tad top heavy compared to the FJT which seems to have a lower center of gravity so it was easier to tip. But it was fun to ride, especially after adding bar risers. Right now I’m on a ‘07 Honda Gold Wing that I found with less than 15,000 miles. As much as we all like to find low mileage used bikes at bargain prices, there’s some issues that arise when a bike like that is parked in a garage & sits for a few years too. Not sure if I’m going to stick with the Wing or get an FJR (sometimes a little “buzz” comes up into grips) or an ST1300 (which I hear has heat issues). Good luck out there riding & in finding a nice Concours14.🍀👍

Do you think the FJR is going to get a big updated for 2025? I know they updated the TRACER 9 for 2025
@rodneybarcus22336 ай бұрын
I have had both bikes and I have to disagree with your overall assessment. Your main point about the fjr was a snatchy throttle. I did think that when I first got my fjr but then I learned to be smooth with the throttle and still be able to have fun.

In 2022, I was searching for both to buy, couldn't find either so I ended up buying the GSXS1000GT+ instead. It seems like sport touring bikes are being supplanted by ADV bikes, but I don't care for them.

All bikes need ECU flash to get the smoothness and max HP out of bike come from factory rich and jerky because of regulation they have to pass...night day difference
@Tinfoilhat3116 ай бұрын
They are actually far too lean for emission purposes. The throttle percentages are terrible. If you own an FJR, do yourself a favor and get an Ivan tune. He owns an FJR and has the map laid out perfectly. It's worth every nickle. Runs better, smoother, and cooler.

The st1300 is a fantastic bike rides well engine super smooth and handles really nice. But its sort of lacking a soul , its that refined its almost boring. It definitely needs some pipes to get it singing alittle.
