Danny's FK8 Honda Civic Type R came back to receive a PRL intercooler and Catless downpipe plus custom tuning from OnPoint Dyno. The car now has 94 Octane fuel in the tank versus our previous video it had 91 octane which we knew was a restriction. With the car's ECU favoring colder Intake Air Temperatures upgrading the intercooler made a huge change in the cars power. Bang for your buck this will provide you with amazing gains and great response.

Curious. All of other videos I see people with almost the same setup pushing close to 400. Any reason why you only stood around 360? Thanks !

70 wheel horsepower gain is fucking insane.. ive yet to see the k20z3 or the k24z7 or the k20a2 gain that much unless they build the engine

So this is just intercooler, downpipe, intake and Hondata tune? That a big gain. What about adding performance exhaust as well? Does a full catless race exhaust system make a big difference when added to a build that already has the intercooler, intake, tune and downpipe? I'm looking to get my build going asap! Great video! Thanks Tyler. The car has a full turbo-back exhaust on it. Modifications include the intake, downpipe, intercooler, catback exhaust and a custom tune on 94 octane fuel.

Looks like an Invidia exhaust to me, also. You only need downpipe, intercooler, flashpro, and a tune. The intake is said to give nothing, according to a comparison test done by Hondata. You could put in a drop in filter, and a smooth flowing induction hose, if you want to improve on the stock intake. The exhaust system is also said to give little to nothing, after doing the catless downpipe. This Applies only to the CTR, as all cars are different.

of course a sport exhaust will allow a better airflow and therefore some extra power with correct setup after I got a fully exhaust direct system, change of intercooler and adapted remap increase power of almost 30hp but without complete exhaust system, you have a hig backpressure that does not allow the engine to intake enough quantity of air

@@JohanSalvattore Pretty much, yes. The exhaust does little, maybe 5-10whp. A ton of tests have been done on exhausts to show this on the CTR. You could get the same improvement in power, just by switching to lighter weight smaller diameter wheels... as the car in the video has. In fact, you could get much more... So, just buy a nice used set of smaller diameter lightweight wheels that don't cost an arm and a leg, and some good light weight tires like Continentals or Michelin. The intercooler is a must, because the factory intercooler is at its limit on stock power, and would heat soak pretty quickly at the power level once you have the downpipe and a tune. Sure, you could make the same power with the factory intercooler, but you'd have to wait quite a while for it to cool down before you can make another run. The tune is the biggest gain (about 30whp), then using a premium/e85 mix (aka higher octane) gives the next biggest gain (about 30whp), then, the catless downpipe (allows you to use less E85 to make the same power). The rest of the mods are supporting mods, and/or smaller gains/reduction in losses.

The peak may be slightly lower due to boost control being smoothed out. It didn't likely lose anything in reality as we're comparing the car on different days

Looks like power to the hubs, to me. Not power to the wheels. Very odd. Dynapacks are known for high reading, this one reads low.

Technically yes the dyno is reading at the hubs, however in comparison we've found the dyno to read accurately compared to "roller dynos"

In that case, you've over adjusted it, and it is reading low, at 272whp stock. On a Dynojet, typical reading is 285-290whp stock. Which, I take to mean that your dyno reads about 6% low, AND which means your overall gain is slightly above 70whp on dynojet equivalent numbers.

Yes it is a direct injection setup and on pump 94 the fuel system is okay with stock turbo.

What you see, is basically the limit of the stock fuel system. You can run higher octane race gas if you want more power. Pure E85, will push it way over. A mix, depends on how much, but barely any and it's too much with these mods.

​@@luigipetillo555 Do you have 500whp? Didn't think so. Are you running pure E85? Didn't think so. Why not? Fuel system is the limit. Ask any tuner that has tuned Type-Rs. and then, the question is... How much power do you mean bye "I am a lots over?" The most anyone has made on the stock fuel system on premium/E85 mix, on a Dynojet (the standard reading dyno used by SAE) is 380whp. The only way to get higher octane to make more power, without hitting the limit of the fuel system, is to use race gas. The car in the video is on a low reading dyno, it would have made 364whp had it been on a dynojet. 16whp more, and that's the most anyone has made on a premium/E85 mix (which I consider to be a mix of available varieties of pump gas, ie where I live). Pure E85 always brings out the most power from a turbo car (especially K-Series), but that's not possible on a Type-R. So, you have to bring down the percentage of E85 to the limit the fuel system will allow. Even completely stock, the optimal amount is a mix that results in E40. If you don't believe me, watch Hondatas video on the ethanol flex fuel sensor.

​@@copperkeyracing6167 maybe I have a different definition of tuners.. as I see a lots of people playing with Lego, just mounting pieces from PRL Wagner Armytryx etc togheter and using hondata map to setup things... in this case i agree with you that this car is almost on top you can get out... therefore you should specify "with lego kit, the stock fuel system is alimit" then I tottally agree.. but if you say "stock fuel system is a limit and 380hp is maximum on this engine", maybe this statement is valid only for Lego setup.. we use to work in a different way, and in test we hit 480hp without particular issue, and was not the maximum, of course that level of power was not the best:issue with traction more, but also with temperature keeping, so we are working to have a final setup around 420-440hp to guarantee driveability and an erogation that is smooth, and all this with stock fuel system... since march we are working just to setup a dual stage air intake, and still unsatisfied, last sunday we moved the battery in the back to have the room we need to do what we have in mind, and not what "PRL said us to do"... and after that, probably we have to retest exhaust system the same as now 78mm was our choose (we test 62-64-68-70-72-76-78-82 so far).... have fun wth Lego...

Looks like someone forgot to enable the Vtec crossover point, or has it turned in the wrong direction. Nice linear curve from 3000-4500 though. Probably pulls like a Chevy V8
