In my humble opinion the best there is in pop music today. She’s transcendent, and asks a lot out of her listeners and doesn’t patronize them. This is high concept stuff in the mainstream.

Stand Alone Complex I also think that after people like Kate Bush and Björk (and many others), the idea of what pop music can be has expanded drastically. I remember Björk stating unabashedly that she is a pop musician, although many would consider what she makes to be quite avant-garde. Pop to me is anything that has become iconic in the sense that it is firmly part of pop culture and the collective consciousness. Good artists tend to not worry about intellectualizing their work this way, and instead focus on expressing themselves in whichever way they wish. I think Twigs is such an artist.
@Stand-Alone-Complex
@Stand-Alone-Complex 4 жыл бұрын
@@lancehewison Absolutely agree with everything you said this is what makes them masters of their own craft. I have been a hardcore ride or die fan of twigs and bjork. Twigs growth and recognition has interestingly come from pure originality. She has not once "sold out" her ideas and art to stay in the masses. Shes kept her roots and that's highly respectable, she became pop while remaining as she always has while still adding new and fresh ideas to the table. I agree, they are all pop, and they do it very well.

There is something so telling of FKA twigs’ artistry when she has the ability to move and dance and sword fight all around that entire stage but instead is deliberately choosing to stand in one place and exude deep, painful emotion with an explosion at the end. Story telling, friends. An artist. This is one of the greatest of our generation. See it now before she’s gone as they are always gone too soon.

A woman's work A woman's prerogative A woman's time to embrace She must put herself first A woman's touch, a sacred geometry I know where you start, where you end How to please, how to curse Yes, I learnt you needed me Yes, I'm here to open you Yes, I know that your heart is blue (So cold) I fear before the fire True as Mary Magdalene Creature of desire Come just a little bit closer to me Step just a little bit closer to me I can lift you higher I do it like Mary Magdalene I want you to say it Come just a little bit closer 'til we collide A woman's hands So dark and provocative A nurturing breath that could stroke Your divine confidence A woman's war Unoccupied history True nature won't search to destroy If it doesn't make sense Yes, I learnt you needed me Yes, I'm here to open you Yes, I know that your heart is blue (So cold) I fear before the fire True as Mary Magdalene Creature of desire Come just a little bit closer to me Step just a little bit closer to me I can lift you higher I do it like Mary Magdalene I want you to say it Come just a little bit closer 'til we collide Ooh, you didn't hear me now Ooh, you didn't hear me when I told you Ooh, you didn't hear me now Mary Magdalene Creature of desire Come just a little bit, just a little bit Mary Magdalene Creature of desire Come just a little bit closer 'til we collide Ooh, you didn't hear me now Ooh, you didn't hear me when I told you Ooh, you didn't hear me now
