In my humble opinion the best there is in pop music today. She’s transcendent, and asks a lot out of her listeners and doesn’t patronize them. This is high concept stuff in the mainstream.
@Stand-Alone-Complex4 жыл бұрын
Except that twigs is not a pop singer. She's an alternative and experimental artist with a versatile style. m3lli55x was as close as you could get to Experimental R&B "pop"

@Stand-Alone-Complex4 жыл бұрын
@@lancehewison Ah, that makes more sense 🙃
@lancehewison4 жыл бұрын
Stand Alone Complex I also think that after people like Kate Bush and Björk (and many others), the idea of what pop music can be has expanded drastically. I remember Björk stating unabashedly that she is a pop musician, although many would consider what she makes to be quite avant-garde. Pop to me is anything that has become iconic in the sense that it is firmly part of pop culture and the collective consciousness. Good artists tend to not worry about intellectualizing their work this way, and instead focus on expressing themselves in whichever way they wish. I think Twigs is such an artist.
@Stand-Alone-Complex4 жыл бұрын
@@lancehewison Absolutely agree with everything you said this is what makes them masters of their own craft. I have been a hardcore ride or die fan of twigs and bjork. Twigs growth and recognition has interestingly come from pure originality. She has not once "sold out" her ideas and art to stay in the masses. Shes kept her roots and that's highly respectable, she became pop while remaining as she always has while still adding new and fresh ideas to the table. I agree, they are all pop, and they do it very well.

There is something so telling of FKA twigs’ artistry when she has the ability to move and dance and sword fight all around that entire stage but instead is deliberately choosing to stand in one place and exude deep, painful emotion with an explosion at the end.
