FKA twigs is the most slept on singer in this industry in my opinion. Her voice is so rich and fragile at the same time which enables her to sing intimate songs while switching it up to more opera-like and even aggressive songs. Bravo to twigs for putting out nothing but pure art

@Alex Starks Dude by what does her skin color have to do with anything? She never plays up her skin color because growing up in Gloucester, the small town outside of London, she was one of the two or three biracial kids in the whole town!! Her step dad who didn't come into her life until later in her adolescence was the only black person she saw really. And people treated her like she was ugly/came from a strange culture! She said it wasn't until Beyonce and Rihanna became more popular in the early/mid 2000s when she was becoming a teenager, that ppl started treating her better. She didn't go up with that "lighter skinned/biracial/amibigious" privilege because when you're the only biracial/ambiguous or black person in a town or neighborhood, then you aren't put on a pedestal as much. In fact you're treated like you are weird, your hair, skin cultural food she ate (Caribbean), the music her step-dad and mother listened i.e. jazz, Caribbean music etc was seen as weird too. If she had grpwn up in London then yes .....her head would be gassed!!!! because of insecure black ppl telling her she us better for being light. There are wore black, biracial, asian etc people there. And the occasional white person would be feeling more comfortable around her in London compared to a fully black person because of the way she looks and the fact that culturally she was raised with her mother's culture more since her bio dad was not there and her step dad came later in her childhood. It all depends on your environment demographics of your community determines how you'll be treated. And every place is different.
@eve99295 жыл бұрын
@Alex Starks I can‘t fully understand the conversation that you and Loupe Literary are having but I think you’re actually agreeing with each other.
@Bonitaymorena5 жыл бұрын
@Alex Starks In the black community there is a priviledge for having lighter skin & looking less black!! It is hierarchy that exists in asian, hispanic and many other cultures not just black. You are put on a pedestal from some black people. Black women do not hate biracial women.... they just get tired of other black people telling them they are not good enough/pretty enough because they don't look like whichever biracial women in popular in their school, community, or in media. Stop being willfully obtuse. Black women don't just hate people for no reason. You basically ignoring their pain because you don't want acknowldge that some people practice colorism again black women. It's just as bad as racism.... in fact sometimes worse because people who look like you are discriminating against you. Obviously it's not the biracial women's fault that some black people are color-struck and put them on pedestal. And some white people like them more because they see them as safe/acceptable black women. That's just how society is that does not mean its right or fair because both sides suffer from that type of treatment like you said. But please try to put yourself in a black woman's shoes... being constantly told you are less than because you don't look racially ambigious/biracial. It's very toxic and abusive behaviour. And also plays on people self-hatred. No one should be treated like they are better than or less than anyone else because of their skin shade/eye color or proximaty to whiteness. Just like it is wrong to treat biracial people like they are aliens/strange or ugly... that discrimination as well. The way Twigs was treated by some people in her town was wrong. But thankfully she moved to London and made real friends as she got older. Both forms of discrimination are wrong!

Aaah, I'm so torn. Cause I totally feel you - this one is so pretty. But the vocal effects in the verses are so uncomfortable, almost distressing to listen too, and it makes the "cleanness" of the chorus stand out even more. When I come to the chorus I feel sort of cleansed of all the dirt I accumulated during the verses and I guess that was the intent. So while I do agree that the version without the vocal effects is more beautiful I think the original one has more impact.

I have always believed this, but sometimes some of the most awe-inspiring artists are the most revolutionary and original. FKA is a musical genius and pioneer and she's so far ahead of the curve, it might just take people a while to catch on is all. Kate is the modern Kate Bush. She sold out a month long residency in 2016 in less than five minutes and had people fly from all across the world after not touring since 1979. She's still very much relevant. Twigs does seem to have that otherworldly quality about her though. I just can't see anyone getting to Kate's level, at least not for a LONG time. Kate headed off all of these people, even older out-there artists like Madonna or Cyndi Lauper. She set the stage for this sort of artist to even come about for females. The only one like this, male or female, prior to Kate, was David Bowie and he was JUST before Kate as it was. Her originality isn't comparable to anyone but Bowie and she's the only comparison there is for him.
