For that age group, try to eliminate as many moving parts as possible from the plays. Suggestions: - Have you're plays drawn up ahead of time. One play per page. - Only use 1 formation (I had success w/ 1 WR, Center, QB, and 2 RB's split). - Have the kids play the same position for the entire series ("You're QB for this series"). So that eliminates, 'what position am I' and 'where do I stand'. Each huddle they just need to see where their arrow goes :)

Anyone have any tips on coaching flag football for a first timer? I've gone from "lets see what this is all about" to "head coach" in a flash. I could use any tips or links you got.

The main thing I've made sure to remind myself is these are young kids. You have to make it simple for them to understand and definitely not lose their attention or passion.

Some good drills, but don't teach kids to only use 1 hand to grab flags. Teach 2 hands, one on each side if possible. Otherwise, kids will be learning bad habits and start making arm tackles when they move to up.

the hard part of this is that you have to have kids that actually want to play. i coach a team of 7-8 years olds here in El Paso and I swear they gave me the team where every kid has ADHD or something.
