@NewYorkVocalCoaching6 ай бұрын
@@joefarmer7727 Actually all of the Quick Singing Tips series were filmed around New York City. There were a couple that were filmed elsewhere (Ep. 37 was in Michigan, and Ep. 38 in Wolfeboro, NH), but a green screen was never used. This is why in the QST series you'll often see people looking at him or "video bombing". For the most part though, he's no spectacle as NYC has a lot going on all the time. All of the other series, except for the introductions of some of the episodes which are often filmed on the street, were filmed in Studio. Justin and his team put a lot of work into the Quick Singing Tips series and it was a lot of fun to do with all the different locations. Ultimately, filming all around the City became a lot more work than anticipated and that's why the series has, for now, come to an end. :) (If it were filmed in a studio we'd for sure still be doing it!) -NYVC

3:07 - wait, omg. You just explained why I can drag my head voice up and pull it up gently and have two different ceilings. Flageolet is the bridge to whistle and just like mixed voice for chest, bringing chest voice up heavily will impede capacity to use head voice and mixed voice will just extend the range and power up.

I am so glad you made this video because a lot of people get flagolet and whistle register confuse. I'm a Male High Soprano that sing in head voice and flagolet in the 6th and 7th octave all the time. I always call flageolet the superhead voice above the head voice.
@honeymarinade39354 жыл бұрын
Any examples? Flageolet reaches up to around Eb6 before whistle kicks in. Whistle usually starts around F6. I dont think you're close to singing in the 6th octave at all because most songs that require 6th arent lyrical.

Justin, I feel like I hit a brick wall when I'm singing really high. I can sing upto F5 very resonantly and loudly, and at the same time very quietly without any difficulty. But the minute I try going even higher, I can't. It literally feels like hitting a brick wall. My larynx goes higher and my jaw tenses. It's frustrating. Does it help to keep the larynx a little lower while going higher?
@masteryoflife51334 жыл бұрын
For some reason, my flageolet does not sound squeaky at all. If I do, it cuts off and makes no sound at all other than compressed air or all of a sudden a defining Loud screech sound would come out. One question is is it possible to sing through my falsetto falsetto bridge seamlessly? It would help when I am trying to sing in recordings without switching from falsetto to flageolet all the time.

A few days ago I discovered this register and I've been experimenting with it. It does increase the upper limit of my register from a D5 up to an A5, but what I've noticed is that I can't keep it up for too long. After a while my voice starts to crack a lot and I'm no longer able to hit pitches that I could reach when I started messing around with it. To some degree it also affects the quality of the rest of my range. It doesn't hurt or anything, but it feels like I've been singing non-stop to the point my voice has started to wear out. This doesn't happen if stick to falsetto/chest voice. I must be doing something wrong when I go into flageolet but I can't figure out what it is. Any ideas?
@joshuaalfred83072 жыл бұрын
I have a similar problem, but I think it has to do with added tension. I definitely feel places in my neck and jaw tense up when doing flageolet. Working to remove this which will hopefully bring more endurance.
@wakdoj2 жыл бұрын
I think you're still in head voice area. You don't switch to flageolet. Stretching it will damage your larynx. or you've switched but like in sports your muscles need time to be comfortable.
@chengliklik2 жыл бұрын
I've been facing the same issue! I'm guessing it's just like an athlete: frequent workout and pushing the limit (in our case, we are trying to reach those high notes that is on the verge of what our vocal cords can produce). Now I cannot assure you since I'm not 100% sure if what I'm doing is flageolet or just the good ol' neck tension, but I suggest letting your voice rest after each workout session.

I'm not sure but I think my flageolet starts at G#5 and goes for about an octave past that. But I can't hit anything in this register without forcing lots of air and straining excessively. When I try to use less air, no sound comes out at all. I am afraid to practice these high notes because I think I will just ruin my voice because I can't do it without straining, so I just practice on my middle notes (C3-C5) in the hopes that my flageolet will get stronger and not so strained. Is this what I should be doing or is there something else I should do?

I got it but I can only do it with a wide embouchure. And I'm not even wrong, I feel like it is definitely flageolet 100%. Can you tell me why? I can't do it with a tiny embochure.

My voice feels not very open when I sing flageolet and I crack a lot. Is that just because I am a beginner?

Question with the flageolet do you need a raised larynx?
@NewYorkVocalCoaching6 ай бұрын
The larynx tends to raise for Flageolet, this is okay! Try to steer away from any muscle strain though. Check out this episode for more on strain: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHekhXppepysd9E -NYVC

Hi Justin! Can you please tell us flageolet is from range around which note to which note. And whistle notes also? Is it possible to overlap?

Hi Queen! Roughly E5-E6 for guys and roughly C6-C7 for ladies. But it depends on the singer for sure! -NYVC

Hi Justin I am rephrasing a previous question. I am tenor. I’ve noticed that when I am practice using flageolet that there are days where it is easier for me to use and other days where it’s kind of like I’ve “hit the ceiling”. Is this normal? Normally I can use it and even add vibrato and sing melodies with it. But then there are days where I can’t use it as fluidly or even at all. Thank you for responding to me!
@NewYorkVocalCoaching3 жыл бұрын
It's totally normal for the voice to change from day to day like this. Try keeping note of different things that are maybe affecting it. How much sleep did you get? Are you fully hydrated? Have you been doing a lot of touch vocal technique? Singing with any bad technique? Is the air dry? What did you eat? Are you stressed? All sort of things affect our bodies and our voice is included in that. :) -NYVC

What are the different between head voice, falseto, flageolet?
@AtomizedSound4 жыл бұрын
Are there are any specific music examples with Flagolet in them? I can’t quite discern the difference in like reinforced falsetto or Flagolet. I know you said Flagolet isn’t full voice and it’s light but specific music examples would help audibly hear and learn this than just information on it.
@NewYorkVocalCoaching4 жыл бұрын
Flageolet is rarely used in music actually. :) Justin does know some though. I think Ariana Grande has used it? For more info, visit Justin's live chat! More info in the Community Tab! -NYVC

I have a question, do i need to expand my falsetto/ head voice to as high as a can before i can do Flagolet? I can only get so high with my head voice before i hit a ceiling, why is this?? What am i doing wrong? I'm tightening my folds as tight as i can so i just don't understand 😂 what do i do?
@NewYorkVocalCoaching2 ай бұрын
Hi Fender! Developing your Flageolet will actually assist in the development of your Head Voice/Falsetto. Sometimes it's difficult for a singer to access Flageolet though because they're not used to such a light vocal production. It can take time to access so don't be discouraged! Keep working at it by being extremely quiet and relaxed when you approach your flageolet notes, and by keeping your embouchure very tiny. Even if you don't hear a sound come out at first, these strategies are still working. Trust the process and keep at it! Flageolet is so beneficial for the voice! -NYVC

hola, esta es la primera vez que escucho del flageolet, me gusto mucho el video. how can i know if what i´m doing is falsetto or flageolet?

Cool! The answer to your question is that they overlap, but Flageolet is a lot quieter and you can go higher with it. :) -NYVC

I know you mention to let it be quiet in practice but how do we get a louder flageolet like the one you demonstrated here? Does it strengthen on its own?
@NewYorkVocalCoaching3 жыл бұрын
Hey Moloki! Flageolet shouldn't be loud. But it does develop over time into a "cleaner" sound! -NYVC
