Important update about IRCC strike and processing time! Our offices in Vancouver and Toronto are right near Service Canada/Passport Canada government buildings. We can see government employees' strike going on right out of our office windows. Unfortunately, I predict it will not finish soon, and after the strike will be over, it will create a backlog in IRCC processing and all online applications will be significantly delayed. The average processing time for work permits, like PGWP, SOWP, LMIA etc. will take way more than the current 6 months... In this situation FLAGPOLING looks like not just a good solution, but indeed the ONLY option available... Can you please advise how many hours from start crossing the bridge to US then return to Canada immigration to process completed ? Also, what to tell the US immigration officials when arrive at US immigration?

It depends... If you asking about Rainbow Bridge, the procedure at US side will take you only 15 min, and then 10 min walk back. If your case is accepted by CBSA officer and they let you inside, depending on your case it could take you between 1 hour to 3-4 hours for your case to be processed. But again, depends on how busy they are, how many applicants are in front of you, etc. All Ontario bridges have different procedures and policies. We will advise you where to apply once we do the assessment of your case. Our consultant will pick you up from your place and drive you to the border and back.

Can I do a flagpole to change conditions from my study permit (without finishing it) to a closed work permit for me and an open work permit for my wife and visitor permits for my kids? I am exempt from LMIA. From the employer side, I only need the job offer, or do I need another document from the employer? Can I do flagpole to request an open work permit for me as a destitute student for humanitarian reasons?

No. Actually at the border you will have a brand new case. The officer will not pay any attention to your submitted case. And, you will have to pay government processing fees again ($255 - open work permit, $155 - LMIA/employer-specific work permit, $150 - study permit, $100 - visitor record, $200 - temporary resident permit, etc.). However, in many cases you can get a refund later for cancelled online application.

If you had started processing your application already unfortunately you will have to wait until final decision. Applying at the border is only permitted if you did not started your application online. Otherwise it can be configured two applications, and multiple applications are not possible.

Yes. Your wife will get her Open Work permit for the same period as your current Study Permit.

Your husband does not need TRV when you do flagpoling. As long as he has a valid permit, he can enter Canada back from USA. But it is totally fine if he just wait you near CBSA office.
