If you haven’t yet, next time you’re in Flag, hit up Woody Mtn. Rd. and A-1 Mtn Rd. for some epic runs on dirt. Also, at the mailboxes on Lake Mary Rd. (around mile 4), take the side road there for an awesome eight mile loop, again on fantastic dirt roads.

I know there are many world-class runners who train on that Lake Mary Road. I am a slow, casual runner who simply wants to finish a marathon this fall within the time limit - lol. So, I stay away from Lake Mary. But I found Flagstaff has a dense and broad trail system. I generally trained at Fort Tuthill Park. But yesterday I explored the urban trail system (FUTS) for the first time. I found that one could do a long run in excess of 10 miles very easily in that system. I simply went from Fort Tuthill Park NE on Ponderosa Trail. That trail connects with Lake Mary Trail. There are many loops, rolling hills, etc. in that sub-region of Flagstaff. I did 8 miles in that area. I wanted to add another 5 miles when I got back to Fort Tuthill Park around Soldier Loop Trail. But it got too hot. That's the double-intensity of summer runs in Flagstaff at late morning/early afternoon. Not only does one have high altitude, but the summer heat can get intense. At 91F, I had to stop at 8 miles. I'll try to do a half marathon at a cooler time of the day sometime later - lol.

@@aryanpandey8280 Did the race yesterday! It went really well, but was also much more difficult than anticipated. Quite a few runners, including myself, missed a turn because of a missing trail marker so 26.2 turned into 28.37. The hills were brutal compared to what I trained with and I kept about a 14 min/mile pace. I’m already looking forward to the next one :)
