A lot of people were hesitant to book with Flair with this hanging over them. I expect a lot of people will make new bookings now. I booked some flights with them the day after this announcement.

This was a huge attack on the airline by Westjet and Air Canada who both have lots to lose by the expansion of the airline especially when it comes to Edmonton, the 5th largest market in Canada yet woefully underserved by their Calgary and Montreal-based rivals... As an Edmontonian to get anywhere you're pretty much treated like a third-rate scrub town despite a metro/region population of 1.5 million... Only Flair was offering bold non-stop destinations like Los Angeles-Burbank from Edmonton and at a price HALF that of its rivals... No wonder they feel threatened!

Good news. Regulations are always touchy issues in Canada being next door to the elephant to the south, which if the door was open could swallow our most lucrative markets in a blink

I actually just saw them for the first time at my home airport of Hollywood Burbank Airport (KBUR) a week ago. Our airport finally became international thanks to them. Never flown so I can't exactly form a valid opinion.

With the duopoly of AC and WJ across Canada, I am glad Flair is making a huge impact within the Canadian aviation industry. Canada needs a good healthy competition and there is more new airlines launching this year which is exciting. Flair has always been "Canadian" but the bigger companies didn't want Flair to grow since Flair is clearly a threat to the duopoly. I can see Flair being a big airline in the next year or two, especially with the new destinations that will be coming very soon. I am happy to see Flair still standing and showing they aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

In Canada, Low Cost Airlines doesn’t really exist because a Montreal-Paris (for exemple) is cheaper then Montreal-Toronto…. Non sense right?

I once got a flight YOW->YVR->SEA cheaper than YOW->YVR (on the same plane for the YOW->YVR segment). It was cheaper to add the extra flight segment. And just getting off the plane in Vancouver wasn't an option since I had checked bags. Weirdest thing I've ever seen in travel.

Air Canada and Westjet are both lazy greedy companies that care about profiteering than offering good product. I've flown my share on both the product quality is crap for the price point. So maybe Flair but at least it's a price worth paying.

If “competition” becomes a race to the bottom then I wouldn’t call that good. Only time will tell here. People forget the size of the Canadian market both in pax and geography. We are a very big country with a small population. IHMO, the LLC & ULCC really doesn’t fit that well. Unlike the EU, or US where the number make sense. ✌️

Wrong. There are only a handful of routes in Canada that are viable without subsidy period and these ones are milked by Air Canada and Westjet for all their worth. Edmontonians like myself end up paying twice and much and taking twice as long to fly anywhere thanks to the sheer arrogance and condescending attitudes towards my hometown by the big 2. A ULCC makes the most sense especially in price-sensitive travel markets out west so I fully disagree with your faulty thesis. As do thankfully other companies willing to prove my point!
