The Flair is a beautiful example of industrial design. IMHO, it is the best hand-pull home machine made today. I almost got a La Pavoni, but I took a chance on a machine 1/4 the price, and I am glad I got a Flair instead. Absolute quality, portable, with a nice case, barista quality shots . Save yourself $600 - $800+ over a lovely Italian machine, and get as good , or better, shots from the Flair.

@@CabeensCoffeeCorner wow, I see what you mean, lol. I am considering a flair signature. The small obstacle is best pre-heating method, since you dont have the piston (in the classic) to cap the bottom of the water cylinder. Bummer about the larger brew head requiring a different pressure gauge than the one on the signature. I was planning to buy the signature and also buying the larger brew head. Reason: I want to pull smaller shots for me and larger shots for my wife. So here's a question: Can you use like 9 grams of coffee in either brew head if you want to pull a single shot? Or do you have to use the minimum that's listed, for example minimum of 12 grams for the standard brew head or 16 grams for the Pro 2 brew head?

@pantac4493
@pantac4493 3 жыл бұрын
I highly doubt it. All the pressure regulation happens with grounds and ground quality. I think the bottom holes are just a pass through at that point and keep the grounds from coming out. I think for the pro 2 is mainly if you want a spout or not, I have the pro 1 and don’t have issues with it spraying but that’s mainly an indication that you’re doing something wrong anyway. I’ve had luck with making sure your grounds are settled well before you tamp and tamp level without it going to one side, that can cause cracks in the puck and also pre infusion of a few seconds at 1 bar a then go to 6-9 bars

@pantac4493
@pantac4493 3 жыл бұрын
@@9abe9 I like orphan espresso because they are a mom and pop. I bought the Pharos 2.0 it’s beefy and takes some strength if you don’t have something to hold it down like their bench dogs. Now the tough question is do I buy a flair Pro 2, or do I look into a semi-automated machine with a built in boiler, increased maintenance for sure, but i can pull back to back shots quicker than the flair; guess I'll continue to contemplate...
@danjunior7034
@danjunior7034 3 жыл бұрын
Nathan- Can you elaborate on how pulling back to back shots compares on the flair vs semi-automatic machines? I'm also trying to decide between a low-end semi-automatic machines (Breville Infuser) and a manual machine. There seems to be more work with the flair (taking all the components apart). Would I be able to pull back to back shots for guests with the flair as quickly as the semi-automatic machines?
@longfang98
@longfang98 3 жыл бұрын
@@danjunior7034 If you plan to pull back to back shots on a regular basis with the Flair, a second basket and brew head is invaluable, pulling the portafilter apart without burning your fingers for the 2nd shot is finicky. With a semi automatic you just knock out the puck, rinse and wipe and you can get started on the next shot.

This was so dang helpful--I've really been on the fence about Flair since it's just *yet another large investment in coffee equipment*....but I just got a GOOD grinder and it really does feel like the best alternative to a full on espresso machine. Probably gonna go with the Pro 2! Just gotta settle on a color : ) Also I appreciate your book selection! Once again proving that folks who study religion really do have the best taste in coffee~ Cheers!

@longfang98
@longfang98 3 жыл бұрын
It’s not flat on your work surface, makes it troublesome to tamp the coffee with the pro. The Pro 2 solves this with the lip so the bottom of the basket doesn’t come into contact with your work surface.

It surprising that of all the modifications and upgrades flair made they did not change the composition of the plunger or the Piston from plastic to stainless steel.

They did at one point. It caused a massive heat sink so they went away from it
@jakobw135
@jakobw135 Жыл бұрын
@@CabeensCoffeeCorner That was a mistake to go back to the plastic plunger because it's not necessarily neutral when it comes to heat and therefore you may be getting some of the plastic components in your coffee.

@CabeensCoffeeCorner 3 жыл бұрын
It is whatever tasted good to you! I typically go with a 1 to 2 ratio. 1 gram of coffee to 2 grams of liquid in the cup. with 16g of grounds I would aim for about 32 grams in the cup. But that is just my personal preference.

What is the issue and the fix with the Pro 2 basket you are talking about?
@CabeensCoffeeCorner
@CabeensCoffeeCorner 3 жыл бұрын
The original issues is that the inside of the basket is slightly tapered. This causes and issues when tamping with a low dose. Until you plan on making espresso with less than 14grams there is no issue. Not sure if flair has resolved this but it isn't a problem for me.
@gregolgratis
