T7 FR BB Lyon [Wip] - The French Shotgun & Back From France

Hello guys and girls, finally back in Finland and I got a whole lot of commentaries that need doing. Going to start off with what I consider the most interesting of the new bunch though, the Lyon. Still a work in progress but already has monstrous potential. It does pay for it in survivability though.

I thought it was pretty good though I didn't understand why there were two sets of announcers. It's not like the other guys weren't knowledgeable, because they where; I just didn't see the point of having them interrupt you and Izolate at the end of each game.

I was watching Notser play a game in the Lyon & my first thought was "Holy Hell, not another completely made up ship!"A 16 gun battleship, for crissakes! I don't mind paper ships, mind you. I'd go so far to say that I rather dig the "What If?" ships that were designed but never completed. Then I went on Google and discovered that the Lyon was a really real design. The French finalized her design in 1913 and expected the class to roll out in 1915. There were some complications in the interim, however...

At 23 kts though, not 25 or 27. No idea why Colorado still needs to trot along at 21 if this thing can conjure 4 kts out of thin air. In fact, if it turns out to be too strong, that is the nerf they should give it.

It looks like Lyon got the same treatment as German WWI battleships in that WG conjured up a hypothetical modernized hull. Stock hull would have hull shape and speed as was planned.

Yeah. The stock hull in game gets 25 kts and 107k shp rather than 23 and 43k as was planned irl though. Which 1) seems like an odd choice if the ship is on the verge of being too strong, 2) is unhistorical and 3) seems like they are pulling numbers out of their stern without even trying to justify them anymore (why would 43k -> 107k give you +2 kts and 107k-> 112k also give you +2 kts? Makes no sense).

They do the same thing with Normandie. Bayern's speed upgrade is acceptable. It is based on the change to the hull, an upgrade to full oil burners and modernisation, it provides Bayern with a boost of around 40% more shp. Getting a couple more knots is fine. But Normandie and Lyon are just retarded. Lyon gets a massive increase of 69k shp. That's another 160% in shp from the expected 43k. That's absurd. Even with improvements in boilers and changing to full oil burning. And even so, these are sub-optimal hulls for these speeds. They were never intended for it, and so are probably insanely resistant to high speeds. Just look at what the British had to do with Hood in order to get 30 knots. If it had been possible to get to these speeds without building a super long ship like Hood, I'm pretty sure they would have done that instead.

Most likelly for game balance. As far as engine power related to speed, multiple factors are at play, such as weight of the ship and accompanying drag, number and shape of turbines, etc (remember its maximum speed, not cruising speed). The current ingame numbers do feel off, i agree with that, but its hard to determine just from engine power.

Vahlen yes i do. But niether the german nor the RN BBs can e easily citadelled. You can give broadside in them all day, and you are eating nothing but pens. As a result, every plep cries for a lowering of the citadels on the original two BB lines and WG lowered them on some ships. My comment was more focused on the powercreep going on in that department. The citadell should be easily hitable, if someone is giving broadside, wich is sadly not the case at more than half the ships in the game.

Excellent casting on KotS V tournament Flamu! Commentary was on point and I especially enjoyed the analysis of the decisions made by the teams. I hope that WG also sees how valuable it is to have good casters/commentators in tournaments, that makes matches much easier to follow and I hope we will see you commenting tournaments (live) more in the future. Also, WG if you are listening, great tournament, I enjoyed every bit of it! One thing to improve might be to bring replays or map situations (i.e. visuals) of the crucial moments of the last match to the stream in addition to the post game analysis so that it would be easier to see that "okay, this is where this team made a mistake" or "here this player over extended and got caught in a crossfire" and so on. Of course this would probably need couple dedicated people to do this alone. I'm happy that the streams are still available afterwards. Daniel Chong Cleveland has pretty troll armor compared to other cruisers around that tier,, Cleveland does take alot of HE damage.. Any US cruiser after Cleveland is alot more fragile except Baltimore its simular to Cleveland I believe.. Anyway you may already knew this.. I do feel for any cruiser player having to face this Lyon

Uh, Cleveland doesn't have "troll" armor, it just has a small citadel, very different thing.

The only one that is being trolled by Cleveland "armor" is it's owner. It may not take as many citadels but it has 16mm of armor all around and being fat as she is it means penetration damage (33%) alot more often. In other cruisers you may be saved by the RNG of overpens but when a BB fires at a Cleveland it is a guaranteed 6-10k dmg from normal pens. Kinda the same as getting a random citadel in other cruisers

Just got my Lyon, and the first game was T9. Felt pretty useless because I didn't overmath anything and all BB's overmatched me. But fun ship, and damage while escaping is good with 8 guns at back. Quite the opposite of the next one, Richelieu, I'd imagine.

Brawling is absolutely hilarious with excellent secondaries and sixteen guns, and beside all battleships will basically over penetrate like hell while you have perfect balans even against gneisau, and scharnhorst can’t even penetrate lyon Dear Comrade Che

without having played the ship or against it its hard to say but from the 2 reviews ive watched. (this and noster) id say the Lyon is slightly OP and would agree with a slower reload to maybe 32- 33 secs instead of its current 30. i mean this thing is a crusiers night mare. if your confident enough you could send your first 8 guns against 1 crusier and the next 8 agaisnt another!

this thing on console is an absolute god i swear... i have over 3400 battles in just over a year.. this is my most played ship with a lil over 230 battles with a 67% win percentage... there seems to be more cruiser players on console... and this thing get preferential matchmaking.. so an uptier game with more then two cruisers... the thing will never lose given the team isnt 100% incompetent...so many people play this ship wrong its ridiculous lol

I tried Colorado in ranked,, the only 2 rounds I bothered with it I just got shredded to pieces.. Colorado as fat and slow as it is doesn't really tank anything, and the hp was pretty low.. You think there's been to many power creeps?? Not just new bbs but new ships and mechanics silently nerf certain ships,, I thinks IFHE is one of those examples and all the troll armors

Colobado has always been poor. Sure, its guns hurt, but it just doesn't cut it with its low health (albeit with the best heal before RN zombie heals arrived) and the huge HE damage it takes. Don't know when you started playing, but the Colobado was buffed at some point; it used to be considerably WORSE, if you can believe that. Far and away the worst of the USN BBs from tiers 5-10.

This ship will destroy T7 as being the last tier where the battleships don't get ridiculous. Until the overmatch mechanic gets removed this ship is the most overpowered ship in the game. Nothing should have that much firepower than can delete a ship no matter the angling. It's the same issue the Conqueror causes, there is no counter for anything but battleships.

This ship suffers from overmatching and it can really handle angled ships all too well. The ship is really only dominant when below 12KM and has a flat face to shoot at. It's very RNG based, so please, don't call it overpowered.

Lyon for the first time is pretty fun with the most guns at T7. But as u progress you start to realize Lyon's guns accuracy is rubbish. If you run Gun Fire Mod gun turning speed are awfully slow. To make things worst, firing range is shorter than Normandie, overall handling is sluggish, the cons goes on and on. At range like 16km and above Lyon is truly rubbish.

You load 16 guns, and what do you get? Massive dispersion, ain't hit nothin' yet. Flamu says it's good, but can't play it no more I'll skip to T9 with the premium store. If you're not familiar with the song "Sixteen Tons", you're not getting the full effect of this one.

This Ship makes no sense, it is shorter than some Cruisers at this Tier and runs almost 30kn. Wonder why ? It got BB Armor and four freakin quad Turrets, wich is really heavy stuff. A Engine strong enough to reach such a speed never fits into this Dreadnought sized BB (planned before WW1 btw) ! WG + Paperships = Bullsh*t

French BB obviously designed for retreats with a double rearward superfiring turret design and only a single forward one, with the single middle turret.
