My 30 year old brother who played the game back in the 90s turned into a kid when I showed him it was re-released. I bought it right then and there. He was watching play it and directing me where to go haha. Even after not playing this game for like 15+ years he still remembers it.

For as unhealthy as they were for the industry (tight deadlines, poor working condtions, etc.) I kind of miss these kind of tie-in games that used to be all over the place. The vibes and gameplay these sort of games are unique in a way that makes them super memorable.
@MrBones1055 ай бұрын
You really never knew what you were in for. Sometimes the game was horrible. Occasionally they were amazing. Sometimes the games really didn't even try to stay close to the subject material (which ironically was kind of fun in its own way). Now everything is so closely vetted for "authenticity".

@@liamcullen3035 The most infamous one is probably Count Dooku, in portuguese, "do" is an preposition which usually means "from" or "belongs to" and the word "cu" is slang for ass, so he's the "Count Of the Ass". Another one is the Planet Utapau where Obi-wan fights General Grievous in Episode 3, there's the Pau City located in the Pau Sinkhole, "pau" is another slang, but for dick, so Obi-wan fought Grievous in "Dick City" inside the "Dick Sinkhole".

Fun fact: we most likely would have gotten an amazing Attack of the Clones tie-in game from BioWare... were they not given the choice between doing a tie-in and a game with a setting with an almost unrestricted creative freedom. That's how we got KotOR. Sure, I can't think of a universe in which an AotC-based RPG would ever come close to the KotOR level of quality so we've gotten the better end of the deal anyway... but it'd have been great had BioWare actually been able to clone themselves (no pun intended) just to have one copy of the team work on the tie-in. And I'll never forgive LucasArts for not releasing the RotS tie-in on Windows. It looked so awesome on screenshots, but even this late in the PS2 lifecycle, actually being able to afford both it and games for it was beyond the reach of some 90% gamers in my country, whereas PC releases we could at the very least pirate easily (X-box wasn't that hard, but even then, the idea of mom and dad getting us a super-expensive piece of gear that wouldn't even help us with our lessons was our wet dream at best) and sometimes parents would get us a legit copy of a game for Christmas. There's no way I would have missed it had it been available on Windows back then, one way or the other.

I cant tell you how many hours i poured into this game and replaying it, but being on Tatooine as Qui-Gon is probably one of my favorite experiences in a Star Wars game due to the many choices the developers allowed. 1999 was a fantastic time to be a Star Wars fan, it felt like there were endless possibilities in a vast galaxy. The PS2 version wouldn't have been so bad since about the only thing you'd lose are AI heroes (which are also absent on the PC version, but can be restored with mods). I hate the attitude of the headlines you showed. It's a heavily flawed game, but it did more than enough interesting things to deserve preservation. Game preservation isn't given enough respect.

This game is unironically brilliant, especially the two Tatooine levels. What the f*ck is wrong with journalists who stil try to pretend that the PT and everything related to them is bad. TPM on PS1/PC f*cking mogs anything released in the last few years. Modern gaming sucks. The level of soul put into TPM on PS1 is unreal, PC version is even better.
@KasumiRINA5 ай бұрын
TPM game is rushed, broken, unfinished mess that has you stuck in walls and lightsabers looking like triangles. There are MANY good Episode 1 games, from racing ones to obscure Gungan planet ecosystem simulator, but Phantom Menace is genuinely poorly made. Just because we enjoy it _despite_ how broken it is doesn't change the fact it was Mass Effect Andromeda of the time.
@123mandalore7775 ай бұрын
@@KasumiRINA Awful take. I've never had a game breaking glitch or become stuck on walls. The amount of soul put into the TPM game is amazing. What's broken about it? The lightsaber combat is second to none, still no Star Wars game has come up with a more satisfying deflection combat system. I've played a lot of the Phantom Menace's games and Lego Star Wars is the only one that rivals it really. The only issues with the TPM game is no podrace, and the last two levels of Theed Palace are rushed unfortunately. But everything up until then is absolutely not rushed. Every time I replay it I discover new secret areas or little hidden things. I don't understand how people can dislike this game. It had so much effort put into it. And in terms of level design and sense of exploration, few games surpass it.

I finally got to try Dreamcast version after playing GBA and PS1 Jedi Power Battles and BIO it is unfinished... New character Ki Adi Mundi reuses other people's animations for combos, has purple lightsaber that he should swap with Mace Windu's blue, and they cut a bunch of stuff on first level to make it less frustrating, but now computers don't destroy, glass doesn't break, and it is generally feels unpolished. Still it has graphics leaps above PlayStation and extra modes. We need a modern port on all systems, Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles will do well in modern climate where people love to stream difficult games. It needs achievements too!

I'm so glad they rereleased this. I ordered a copy for PC last year and was dragging my feet about getting it running. That's where I played it originally though 25 years ago so I'll probably fire it up on Windows at some point, but for now this is faster

@@Rschr101Considering Rey barely clears the bar for bare minimum definition of a character in the first place, every other character in every other story is by default. How a multi-billion dollar company thought it was a good idea to buy Star Wars and then make a trilogy with no writing team and no plan, I'll certainly never know.

Dunno if it'll be re-released on other platforms but I still have the PC version that I got for christmas in '99. It was the first Star Wars game I've owned. I remember beating Jabba's Champion by repeatedly force pushing him onto the spikes.

Years later did I finally discover Grey DeLisle (who voiced Princess Azula in ATLA) did Padme's voice in this game. Feels odd to hear Azula crying for help in this game lol. I think she also voiced the Gungan kids in this game

I used to go over to my friends house, and we'd play this for hours. I never had a console, so it was my only chance to play. LOVED IT. Its still fun to this day! HAppy we got a PS5 port. Even though it would have been nice if we got a remaster instead. But regardless, happy to play this game again!

I admit I DID love this on the original on Playstation, so much so it was one of the first ever games I got a burned CD copy of, I think I used that with a spring and little gadget that fit in the back port of my PS1, it worked great besides the bad burned copies the place I went to get them done would do on occasion, a little Chinese electronics store around the corner from me did this on the down-low for I think a $1 each or something.
