Tatooine was wild with how many side quests and little details there were in this game. There’s a guy selling “dung worms” that if you jump in his bucket of dung worms he gets upset, but then everyone else in town comments on how bad you smell until you go into a bath in the bath house.

Fun fact: LucasArts made a completely different game about the Phantom Menace named Jedi Power Battles (for some reason) for the PS1. And everyone who played it as a kid basically knows it was a soulslike before souls was even a thing If you guys ever give that one a try, I STRONGLY advise you to pick Qui-Gon out of the many playable characters simply cause his damage sound is extremely funny. It's honestly a shame it didn't become a meme at this point, deserves the "LEGO Yoda" treatment 100%

@@MindPulp When I was a kid, I often ran amok in that Mos Espa level and murdered EVERYONE (except for Anakin), which is actually quite hard, because those big-ass guards have an insane amout of HP. However, there's a cheat, that makes your machine gun shoot rockets. With that cheat on, those guards will eventually go down.

Helping the NPCs instead of killing them will often result in them opening item stashes with items like rocket launchers that can really help with the tanks. You can call the game dark for giving you the option to make bad choices, but you should know it also rewards good behavior.

When I was a kid I beat this game the “right way” all the way to the end, but then I went back with the huge challenge of killing absolutely every last person in Mos Espa. It was the hardest challenge in the game because everyone started trying to kill you after you killed like two guys, and the Jawas even sent shielded Jawas at you with rocket launchers. And the weird thing was that the Jawa killing area was almost set up as if to say “yeah, we want you to try to kill everyone” because there was a blaster turret there that you could get on to use to kill all of the Jawas. It was like the game was begging you to slaughter everyone in sight in the mos espa level.

To be fair the first theatrical experiences of Star Wars in the 90s was the original re-releases, followed by the greatness of the prequels a fun solid adventure that gives backbone to the movie lore.

For real, I loved watching the VHS of the original series (Han Solo shooying first, old Anakin ghost, etc) and then I got SUPER excited when I heard they were making Episode I! And it didn't disappoint. Me and everyone I grew up with loved that movie! Episode II was the one we found more "boring", but we tolerated it because that final battle at the end and Yoda dueling Dooku was just too much hype. And then Episode III came out and *_Jesus fucking Christ,_* I am not ashamed to admit I cried when I watched that movie. We all unanimously agreed, best Star Wars movie ever. Really, it wasn't until, like, 7 years after that that I started finding out there were fans out there who really hated the Prequels and... *I was just flabbergasted.* HOW can you hate those gorgeous movies?! Yeah, they had their flaws, but they were great! Of course, 20+ years since them, I can understand many fans of the OG trilogy have a beef with it now. Even though I still disagree. And will continue to do so until the day I die. Whatever you wanna say about them, Episodes I-III were good movies and I enjoy rewatching them every now and then. (though the "best SW movie ever" is kinda tied between V, III and Rogue One for us now)

Fun fact: Jar Jar was referred to as the "menace" of the film in much of the promotional material (prior & during release). After media backlash towards him, they went back and removed everything referring to him as a menace. This could explain why Maul had a smaller role than people expected... As well as confirm what the actor and people connected to Lucas have said in regards to Jar Jar's secret importance (which ended up getting cut)

Pretty depressing fact is that the actor who played Jar Jar almost killed himself. He’s from NYC and walked out onto the Brooklyn bridge, climbed over the railing, and almost let go but then decided to pull himself back over. He then wouldn’t drive or walk over that bridge for like ten years because he didn’t want to relive that moment but eventually he got married, had a Son, and decided to take him there to teach him a lesson about life and never giving up and to show himself why he kept living and what a good decision it was I guess the moral of the story is that if you don’t like a character that’s fine but don’t go after the actor! They’re people too and it’s not like that guy intentionally did a bad job. He said he was actually really proud of the role until all the immense amount of hate he got which was overwhelming

I remember renting this game from Blockbuster back in the day. My Dad and I spent hours just trying to get past the first level and never made it. The phrase, "The room is filling with poisonous gas!!" is now burned in my memory forever because of that. But jokes aside, this game was actually pretty revolutionary for giving the player all sorts of side quests and dialogue options and the ability to kill people at random.

I'm 33 years old, I played this game when I was 9 years old and I wasn't able to beat it until I was 14. Even when the English language was a struggle back in the day because it was not my mother tongue, the most difficult part about this game was the camera and the glitches, in the end, I was just a child having fun. PS: this was the game when I messed up for the first time the save file overwriting the newest one instead of the oldest and the worst of all was that I saved at low health in front of an undodgeable blaster incoming.

Next to Star Wars Battlegrounds the only game where you can truely commit Gungan genocide. I actually remember having a Micromachines toy of a Jar Jar Binks head that would fold open into an interiour view of Gungan City and a Darth Maul head rubiks cube - the 90s were truely wild times. You can kill everyone in the Otoh Gunga and Mos Espa level and still compete it. You have to get all of Anakin’s pod racer parts. I would recommend the invincibility cheat though. On the main menu, highlight options. Press...Triangle,Circle,Left,L1,R2,Square, Circle,Left. Hold down...L1,Select and Triangle then turn “player can’t die” on and choose your level. Then press NEW GAME

Actually, if you kill innocents in Mos Espa, not only will everyone try to kill but Anakin also refuses to help you even if you have all the parts. (which basically traps you in that stage until you reset it) Same thing with Mos Espa Arena, where if you start killing innocent people randomly, you're suddenly met with a "Padmé has been killed" out of nowhere. So yeah, the two Tatooine levels are the ones the game does NOT let you casually get away with murder. *Why the devils they didn't do that with Otto Gungan and Theed as well, I will never know.* 💀

Even though these games had the lowest quality on graphics, back then when we were young playing these games, at least least companies completed their games instead of releasing too early unfinished

They didn't have "the lowest quality on graphics". Not at the time. Back when these old PS1 games came out, the graphics were incredible. They only look like shit NOW because of what we currently have to compare them to. Video games evolve so much in such a short amount of time compared to most other media.

According to a guy I knew who was at Cap at the time that candy toy was made, they had the license to make products for Star Wars Episode I and some of their offerings were really cool like a Darth Maul lightsaber that had chicklet styled gum in the hilt. There were two or three characters that were to have these toys, Jar Jar and Maul. Maul was easy enough, but Jar Jar was difficult to find an idea for. So out of frustration or a joke, this toy was put forth as a gag, and to their surprise and horror it was accepted.

I always thought this game was underated for it's time. The rpg elements and freedom in the game was nice. There's a good documentary video with the devs on how the game came to be, very interesting.

I had this game on PC. I used either cheats or maybe even just glitches to get off the main paths and explore weird corners and crannies where you wouldn't normally go. It was astonishing how big the levels were, there was a lot being rendered that you'd never see.

I use to play this game ALOT on my family's PC. The PC version is much much better than the PS1 port, mainly because it had smoother graphics and more cheat options.
