Battlefront 2 is often more remembered because of its Heroes mode, Space battles and Episode 3 maps, but Battlefront 1 was where it all got started. Battlefront 1 is pretty simple when you look at it, but that simplicity made it fun. You weren't one of the big name heroes, but just a regular rank and file soldier on the ground. Other than the Droidekas being unbalanced and the Starfighter maps being too small for dogfighting, I still hold good memories about this game. To be fair, I played the hell out of Bespin platforms and the Dune Sea with my friend and his brother over a LAN connection. Good times for sure.

I remember the Bespin platform level being one of the levels where Jedi and Sith hero’s could be “killed”. The ai with the players help would just start pelting them with grenades until one of the explosions sends them flying off the platform. Granted they respawn a few seconds later but it was always fun on single player to be like “here’s what I think of your immortality!”

@skycloud48025 ай бұрын
Unlike other corridor shooter video games, the bottle necks here were really fun there because of the big grenade chucking sending soldiers and droids into the skies. Jetpacking added a lot of movement and if that failed then a Starfighter could land behind enemy lines.

I personally prefered SWBF1 over SWBF2. I know most people loved the crazy power trip SWBF2 gave you, but something about the original where you're just a nameless soldier and not some special supersoldier just resonated with me better. It's a lot of fun

My favourite memory of this game is the Rhen Var level with the clones. It was always this tight game where the droidekas would bottleneck and blast through the tunnels and my friends and I had to take the vehicles and try to clear the command posts on the other side before the tunnels were overrun. I do remember the balancing feeling off in the first one. The droidekas were OP once they got shields up, but it was fun to have to play around that.

Damn... i remember the online experience like it was yesterday. Got this as a gift on PC. Most people were really friendly unlike other (current) games. Before gamespy shutdown, the community was split between versions 1.0 and 1.2 . The former was more focused on balance and people were only allowed to play snipers and rocket launchers (pilots and specials were the deal breaker, regular soldiers just sat at the back), the latter was more tolerant. Also, the mods were extraordinary for the time.

Small correction: the jedi aren't invincible, they have the health bar system used in bf2, but it doesn't deplete as fast over time and it's so high that you hardly ever can kill them. The easiest way I used to do it was with the heavy class, place mines in a line cause they always beeline to you, and once they set off the mines, blast them with rockets until they either fly off the map, or their health timer runs out

What a game. My love for the Star Wars franchise deepened tremendously after playing this and the sequel. They made me think about the soldiers fighting the titular wars and not just the Jedi and Sith. Obviously, the graphics don't look that great now, but back then I felt immersed on the frontlines of the galaxy. When you think about it, it's kind of nuts that the sequel was better in pretty much every way when this one was as solid as it was. But that's a topic better suited for BF2's 20th anniversary video! Also, shoutout to Pandemic Studios for making some of the best games of the early 2000's. Battlefront 1 & 2, Destroy All Humans 1 & 2, Army Men: RTS, Mercenaries 1 & 2, and The Saboteur, to name a few. I suppose a lot of those are hard to find and play now, but if you can, give them a shot!

@skycloud48025 ай бұрын
I think the main problem is that EA went into it too hard trying to rebalance it as a multiplayer game, whilst the first games treated players as mature enough to do whatever the hell they wanted no matter how over-powered. Starfighters and andd vehicles kill everything? Let it, it's a sandbox experience. The battle is so big that after a while, I'd want to bail out the vehicle and go back on foot to find the action again or nearest outpost.
@scottthewaterwarrior4 ай бұрын
@@skycloud4802 They did the same with Battlefield. In the early Battlefield games grenades had maybe a 10 foot blast radius, of which 5 was lethal, you could take out like half a dozen people at once! Balance is a bit more important when it comes to PVP, but even online I only ever played such games on PVE servers. Personally I'd love to see a Battlefield/Battlefront like game that is combined with an RTS, you deploy and command the units from above, but can also take direct control of them at any time as an FPS. Battlestations Midway/Pacific actually did this, but only for naval/air combat.

I got BF2 at launch on PC and then later in 2007 I got the Renegade Squadron white PSP with both BF:RS and BF2, and across both PC and PSP I must have had well over a thousand hours on BF2, but I never even tried BF1 (Despite even owning it on GOG now! Cursed be those sales!) One thing that amazed me across SW media was how consistent Kashyyyk always appears. I understand that BF2 and RC devs had access to RotS, and before it was always based on the Holiday Special look, but I always found that surprising considering how universally hated the HS is. I remember reading Heir To The Empire after seeing the prequels and in the beginning Luke is on the balcony of the Imperial Palace on Coruscant looking towards some great mountains - I’m sure they retconned this somehow.

Being able to participate in battles from the movies as a regular soldier and use a variety of vehicles made the game addictive. It was the best Star Wars game up to that point and before that I played Rogue Squadron: Rogue Leader, Rebel Strike, Attack of the Clones and Bounty Hunter on the Gamecube. Both games were so awesome and Jedi Hunt on Eisley was hilarious. I loved how I could set up my own scenarios in free mode where you could choose what planets you want to do and what order I always do the prequel planets, and then the original trilogy planets, so would go through the timeline in order it would take about 2 to 3 hours to play.

I got this in the "Star Wars: The Best of PC" 2006 physical bundle for my birthday one year. That was a truly fantastic gift and possibly video worthy.

I hope your next video is on the sequel! That was my favorite game growing up. Never played the original but I'm gonna get it now since it's only 10 bucks on steam.

Your comments on the space battles and boarding enemy ships is really astute. ➡️The ability to attack, board enemy cruisers , destroy ships support systems kept the game fresh enhancing player longevity. I especially enjoyed the ability to operate consoles 🖥️ on your capital ship that controlled lasers turrets to defend your capital ship from fighter craft 🛸 Just so many enjoyable levels of gameplay within the space battle scenarios!

Oh, yes! I might have played the second one first, but finally getting to this one I just couldn't help but love it. Especially the Rhen Var maps. They became my favourites of the franchise pretty quickly. And the mods! Oh, so many great levels to find! Such as a Mario Kart battle course. Truly brilliant times.

This was a gem back on xbox for me even if I didn't have xbox live back then, i spent hours replaying this and battlefront 2 on xbox. Got a series x and that still holds up pretty well today

I remember going to put it in my try, looking at the case and feeling the magic everytime. Just because the cover art for 1 is perfect

Happy 20th Anniversary Battlefront. They'll never replicate your awesomeness like you did on the PS2.

As someone who replays BF2 very often, maybe once per year, i should get back to BF1 too sometime.

This game blew my mind as a kid because I had no idea what to expect really. It was so different from anything I’d played & it felt so surreal. I remember not enjoying 2 as much, it had hero mode but it just didn’t have the soul the first one did. Idk the first one just has a special place in my heart
